heard if those pigs get loose ..2 weeks later they grow fur and tusks and go feral..assuing the taste is similiar to pig?
Wild pig taste's nothing like domestic - whole different thing.
And once a pig goes feral it takes approximately 2 generations for them to regain tusk's and - perhaps one to begin growing the longer guard hairs in their coats.

And an honest 12 hours in the ground pig roast is to die for !

Since we're talking pigs - I've been thinking of giving this a go.
Don't forget to go full screen & crank the jams !

its deer, not deers. nails on a chalk board right there.

I would strongly urge you to join a hunt club and make some friends that are experienced at dog handling, training, and have access to quality property to hunt. Its a very complex thing to learn, and having friends that will help teach you and your dog is priceless.

Pardon while I vent real quick...

So, I've been watching the outdoor channel quite a bit lately. It's deer season, there are a lot of nice deer to be taken and so on. Well, I guess you can say I'm jealous or what have you, but seeing all these people on this channel, and watching them get to go all over and get nice bucks is just aggravating. I mean, they are in one location for a day and they tag a trophy buck without even having to actually hunt. All they do is go to a site, setup a tree stand and then like magic, bucks come from all over the place.

Meanwhile, I have been hunting probably a total of around 20 days this season and have tagged one doe. I haven't even seen any bucks. I have caught a few does on my trail cam, but no bucks to be seen anywhere. I don't have the luxury of having a tree stand so I have more risk of deer catching my scent. I use scent blocker and set up a blind somewhere in the woods.

Ok, sorry. That is the end of my rant.

But on another note, I'm going back hunting tomorrow morning and going to have an all day sit. Hopefully I'll have some good luck tomorrow being that it is the peak of the rut, and hopefully I'll call in some stupid horny bucks.

Take comfort in knowing that most of those "hunts" are highfence, even if they may have 1000 acres fenced in. There is zero sport in that. The ones that are true fair chase are so set up for the crew its silly. These ranch owners get huge money to come hunt, so they make sure that the tv personalities kill good deer on their property. They spend months watching deer, and plotting their travel routes. It's stupid, but I always watch anyway.

I really like the few shows I've seen where they go on State or Federal land, and do the mapping and scouting themselves.

Its all just for tv man.

I get irratitated at the guys who go out for one sit, smoke cigs, drink beer, don't shoot their gun at all before, and just walk out back and kill a 130" deer. That bugs the hell out of me. I have spent countless days in the field during my life and have honestly earned every single bite of venison my family and I eat, and I take pride in that. I'd still like a wall hanger someday though.

I feel ya. I know how they manage to get the deer they do, it just gets aggravating when I have spent so much time in the woods and have only tagged a doe. But I tell you what, that doe gave me so much venison, I had to give around 20lbs away cause I didn't have enough room in the freezer. I still have 3 one gallon bags full of meat to make jerky.

Have you noticed how loud some of these people are out on a hunt?

I know when I go out and am in the woods, I am so still and silent that birds come and land right next to me thinking I'm part of a tree.

Too funny you say that. My 6 yr old was just studying owls in school, and I told her a story about an owl that landed right next to me once. It was so cool. They are big!

Finally got my gun back today, I missed yesterday and today, but will be out tomorrow. One place in the morning, than an hour away on private land for the evening hunt. It hasn't been hunted in so long its crazy so I have a real chance to see some nice bucks for once. Please please please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck tomorrow. I'll be out probably an hour before daybreak making sure I'm all set up. I just got back from academy sports and picked up some scent sticks, they seem to have good reviews. Hopefully I'll get to see and/or shoot at me a buck tomorrow. Gonna take my antlers and try to rattle and grunt some bucks in. "Fingers crossed"
