Steer Manure

What's different about the deep part of your container? If the roots do fine at first, they should do fine as they continue to grow. And from what I understand cannabis plants grown in containers have roots that go down and then out as opposed to out and then gradually down. It likes to grow it's roots sideways. Unused mushroom compost?? Very cool! Where did you score that? So it's not sterilized then? I know they mix straw, corn cobs, horse manure, chicken manure, Gypsum, and probably some other stuff (maybe some peat moss I would think?). After that breaks down they grow the mushrooms in it, or as it breaks down the mushrooms grow in it? I'm not sure how that part works. Then after they're done growing mushrooms in it they sterilize it.
Home depot, they got big bags for 4.97$, unused mushroom compost, lots of corn pieces in it, guess that means I don't need to add malted barley :)

Maybe that didn't make it smell and it was the discusting combo of steer manure, kelp meal, fish bone meal, alfalfa meal, and other stuff I added to it, mainly steer manure + fish bone meal = HORRIBLE turtle poop smell.

Fish bone meal can make the room a lil stinky but it's a good funk. My cats claw at the door of my room trying to get to it. I hate the smell of chicken manure the most!

Man I'd like to try some of that stuff! It says they don't have it available at the store by me but I'm about to see if I can get them to order me some!
They got pallets of it here, all the hippies in Colorado get the good stuff sent to our home depot :) just like every home depot we got pidgeons living in the outdoor area so when you are unloading the big bags of compost and manure watch out from above you might get a little extra manure for free :dunce:

Seems legit! I get compost made from food scraps from a local landscape supplier along with my peat moss and perlite. They got mushroom compost I like, but it's spent substrate it'd be awesome to mess with some of the stuff you got. I get bored too easy, I always wanna try everything lol.
I'm trying to make my own compost, it's going ok I guess, so dry here it keeps drying out. I made a lid today for my compost and sealed my air vent up hope that helps.

How good is Steer Manure? This stuff I can buy for 1.49 locally says 100% organic composted steer manure, seems like its really rich I picked up 2 bags(1.5 cubic foot each) , wondering if / how I can incorporate them in my cannabis grow. My main goal was to amend my veggie garden with this cow poop but i'd like to add in a little to my soil mix too.
Its ok, manures need around 4 months decay time to be on the safe side for ecoli, salomonella.. etc.. Excess use of manures can cause salinity problems, The depth of application of manures is different from plant based compost products. 1 inch deep then plowed into the soil at 6-8 inches.. But plant based composts can be used at a heavier application rates. I think somebody already mentioned the slow release of N from steer manures.

I'm ok with using aged steer manures in say raised beds or french style beds. I'm not too big a fan of using manures in smaller containers for say cannabis, I prefer vermicompost, or compost because its mostly plant based, and to avoid salt issues. If you're going to amend your potting soil for cannabis, its better its mostly broken down because its a fast growing annual.

Funny you mention bird poop. Chicken Fuel, aka Chicken Shit, was the latest and greatest amendment the cannafarms were using when I was visiting in Washington. Supposedly better than steer manure, or better NPK balance. And less salt problems.

I wouldn't say chicken manure is the greatest amendment that cannafarms could be using, but given its low cost and broad npk (6-3-2 for chickety doo doo brand), it's definitely good for industrial applications. I've worked a crop before that was just fertilized with chicken manure and bone meal, then molassess every other watering during flower. It's a good simple way to do things if you're cash cropping. You won't be winning the cannabis cup or anything but your plants will be healthy (if your room environment is good) and if you got good strains the bud will turn out straight.

@Yodaweed

Id 'steere clear.'
What you put in you get out. That simple.

This is why people shouldn't buy compost that costs 1.49 a Cuft and expect anything more than sub-par results.Imagine what goes into this steer manure diet, probably gets fed the lowest quality feed you can find..How many dewormers/hormones/antibiotics are used? Probably A LOT considering it's only a 1.50 a bag.

While most things 'work alright' in organics you have people who think you can't win cups with organics because your growing your bud with shitty compost. Aka THE MOST IMPORTANT PART :dunce:

Salt can be an issue if the cows are supplied licks....
We do not on our farms and I agree on your time for decay.
