That stuff sits on pallets outside all the time. Garden centers and grow stores have all kinds of grow medium stored outside. Who knows where and how that Ocean Forest and Happy Frog has been stored along the supply chain.
After growing outdoors for awhile,I moved indoors a little over a year ago to avoid bad weather and pests. one of my first runs I had fungus gnats.came from a bale of promix from the garden center (stored outside)I presume.now I buy my promix months out from when I need it,store it in a trash can and either leave it in the barn or tucked inside somewhere.so far,so good.do whatever you want, but leaving it laying around outside is an open invitation for problems imo.
I cant control what my local grow store does with mediums, but I can once I buy it.it's an easy extra step for me to try and at least minimize and control any possible problems that may pop up.last thing I want is to have to introduce some sort of bug killer/bombs into my home,in order to eradicate some tenacious bugs.
