I looked at all this crap too. In the end, IMO, you get what you pay for. Choose wisely cause it's all a game out there now with lots of bullshit.

I'm still running my 600 watt Hortilux and as long as I change them out every 6 months I'm good. I have a funny feeling most new LED's will soon all be boasting IR and UV extras.

Meijiu and kingbrite buy quadruple the diodes HLG ever will in their lifetime. You’re absolutely wrong
Buying them at a fraction of the cost of authentic Samsung because they arent authentic diodes. Its like saying a cheap, white box no name car part off amazon or ebay is the same as the OEM counterpart from the dealership. They may look the same, function the same. But one is far superior to the other in performance.

Doesnt cover all chips. Or go in enough detail. But heres a starter for ya
this is not proof, or even evidence
im sure there are plenty of alibaba vendors that falsely claim to use samsung diodes in their lights, but i stand by my assertion that meiju is not one of them

I don't even care if my Shenzhen Umol Tech lights have fake sammie diodes and neither does my Lux meter or my plants. They outperform the HPS DE they replaced in every conceivable way. They perform just as well as Gavita 1700 that are probably using real sammie diodes. Looking at BK's "shit show" I can tell his plants are really unhappy that didn't he pay 2,3,4 times more for the good lights....

So according to you we can get whatever LED lights we want no matter the cost and it will grow great weed and be better than hps.

Then why do people argue all the time over what LED to get? That does it for me. I'm getting one to try out and whatever happens happens :eyesmoke:

I didn't say that. I had ~800w blurples before and they weren't bad, but not on par with HPS and difficult to work with. That said, my cheap UltraSun bulbs grew plants just as well Hortilux bulbs at ~1/3rd the cost before I switched to LED. Spend you're money on whatever you want; I hear those Black Dog LEDs are killer. Kind makes some pricey lights too. The Gavita 1700 is definitely a quality unit.

Yeah and shnoz berries taste like shnoz berries. I get fed up with all the misinformation circling the internet. I know this is an LED thread, but.... Lemme explain, if you convert your AC to DC and run your mh/hps bulbs you double lumen output. Further the same bulb can be overdriven to say 480 volts.....now this is 8x more power than your standard grow bulb/ballast. LEDs can also be over driven in a similar manner.

So what's my point other than stirring some strange pot? Well my point is not to stir some strange pot but to educate those that want to know....

So again what's the point? Well the cheap LEDs from Alibaba can be overdriven increasing efficiency and life span.

I have also seen some absolutely stellar new products...not led but similar....will really replace the high price led boards once they reach the general market.

Then there is the trusty vacuum tube folks.....:p

And they arent shipping from a port china. It ships from Taiwan as an origin port for authentic Samsung stuff.
Hmmm, I don't know about this...

You do know that people can buy Samsung LEDs all over the world right for use in their manufactured products? Samsung has partnerships with distributors everywhere that supply local manufacturers. Here in Canada we can go to our nearest Future Electronics place and buy them in bulk (They only sell a minimum package of 4000 LM301B diodes). They turn out to be under 10 cents each. However if you buy a minimum number of 20,000 diodes, they cost less than 80 8 cents each.

How does overdriving leds increase efficiency and life span?

At higher voltages electronics function more efficiently. Say at 12 volts you are getting 85% power conversion, meaning 85% of the power (watts) is used to make light. At 120 volts the efficiency is say something like 95%. When a bulb runs more efficiently, there is less wear on it and it lasts longer.
