Repeling squirrels and rabbits without physical barriers???

Let me know how that garlic and pepper works Sonar. I was thinking the exact same thing. I was reading the labels of some store repelants and they all had garlic in them.

Most of my plants are about a foot and a half high. At what point can you stop worrying about animals? I know they can nibble all year, but I'm talking about complete destruction. I'm thinking once everything comes into full bloom they will have other food sources and leave it alone.

squirls dig up the ground looking for their nuts... no joke... they dont eat the weed but they will dig all around. armadillos dig like wild hog, and of cource wild hogs dig. gophers dig as well. some areas have moles. theyll tunnle through your roots. no defenate fix but to sit out there with them. just spray preditor urine all around as much as you can go with the fishing line, piss, barry chicken wire around your plant a few feet deep. for deer. just leave and old sweaty tshirt or underwear near by... it will work for a while but they will get used to it... another good thing to do is to put road kill near your plants. 2 reasons. 1 the smell will attact preditors which will leave their sent behind, two the smell can over power weed plants and when carrying it in a box just say its a dead cat or dog youre going to give a proper funeral.. i cant spell... then there is the good old plant 20 and hope for 5 method... but either way gorila style is risking damage from the eliment and animals and people... you can do everything posible and still fail... just plant enough to leave room for more than half not to make it...

very little forum humor make me really laugh but I had to when I read that shit you forget Weed Smoker say the darnest things that should be t.v show.

Imagine, some one comes into your house and leaves a pile of something (nothing bad), you would be extremely curious, and no doubt would check it out. That is what happens when you dig in the dirt, other animals smell the fresh dirt and check it out, maybe looking for grubs, or fresh tender roots up rooted by what ever was digging. Usually when there curiosity is appeased they go back to surviving. That is why you try to pre dig your holes, and pre fertilize. Now beyond that some animals actively seek out tender roots, and fresh young leafs, but they are usually small in nature, and using liquid barrier fences works. I personally use the type that need diluting, saves me money since I try to apply it every time I go out to my various spots. I just spray all around my plants, not usually on the plants, but I don't think it matters, the stuff goes away after a while, that is why I apply multiple times when the plants are small. If things are very bad, you can always trap the animals and relocate them, I will not advocate killing them, to me personally just doesn't seem right. Now don't get me wrong, if I was hungry, well the story would be different, I just won't go around killing animals thats all. One experience I did have, I needed to get nitrogen into the soil and decided to use fish emulsion well nothing could stop the critters from checking that out, was like I baited them. They uprooted my plants looking for the fish, I guess. Some of the plants I did manage to replant, some were destroyed. The point is smelly stuff gets their attention, in a good way or bad way. Well no armadillo or wild hog around these parts, but I was thinking something like a squirrel or chipmunk. Maybe I'll stop down wal mart today and see if they have any predator urine. It's worth a chance. Hopefully in a few weeks they will be big enough that the threat will be diminished.

I was hoping for plant 10 and keep 5. I hope it isn't plant 20 and get 5!
