Mental health would be great to work on and totally agree that it's a mess with no good(or easy) solutions. Unfortunately, it's like homelessness, in that there are a hundred paths people have taken to losing their shit and a hundred paths people have taken to accessing weapons, which means that addressing the issues is just as complex. There are who-knows-how-many thousands of gun control laws and I don't think there's any metric that shows mass shootings are slowing down anytime soon. This society does not manufacture a top quality product.
We should just make half the guns pop out a little bang flag, nobody knows what they got. Would cut down mass shootings by half, and that half that get prevented wind up funny.
Buy yeah, its a situation without a way out. It is one where I do think you need to weigh reality vs some ideal or moral based decision. The folks sitting on the other side sure as shit aren't giving up firearms, there is zero possibility that you can go seize guns from everyone. Worth noting that the idea that only police or military should have weapons ignores that those groups line up pretty heavy on one side of the aisle. I am rather bleak in my world view though.
Worth noting, I always back gun ownership, but don't personally have one as I think it's a bad idea to have a gun in the house with kids, reality and all.
