pretty simple questions, from a paranoid grower

hello. i have a few simple questions im sure any seasoned grower can help me with.

#1. Apparently some time yesterday, my mh bulb died on me. i didn't notice until today. worst case scenario is my plants went without light for part of one day, and some of today until i noticed today and switched the dead mh bulb,with my new hps bulb. the question is, with my plants not having light for a possible 24 hrs, then switching to my hps bulb, can i have accidentally started their flowering stage? the timer is still on the veg time of 18-6.

#2. i ordered my new mh bulb and it should be here in a few days. the question is when i get it, should i switch back from hps to mh to continue the veg stage?

#3. and finally, on average how long are you guys plants in veg???? i know it depends on strain, system, lighting, indoor vs outdoor etc etc. but just in general. (im using dwc with 600w mh hps set up if it helps.) my plants look amazing, all very healthy, but ive been hearing of people who switch to flowering in 2 months and get amazing yields, i just dont understand how. my plants are about 2 ft tall,and matured, so i can flower at anytime now, but they just dont seem ready. i know its very vauge, but i feel like there is somthing im missing

#1. No flowering starts from a continuous cycle of 12 hrs dark time
#2. It really doesn't matter about the light some ppl use either one the whole grow veg and flower
#3. Some plants double in size when put into flower so if you have the room you can veg as long as you want or do some type of training to bush out or restrict height until your ready to flower

1. I have screw ups in my veg a lot including right before flower and I have never had an issue.
2. Yes do replace the HPS with the MH bulb when it gets there or you may experience stretch, which you don't especially want.
3. How many plants are you running? 2 feet might be good enough and actually you will need to do some LST in order to use the 600w correctly if you are starting with 2 footers.
For example if it is 4 x 2 foot plants I'd say it's time to either top/train or just flip them if you aren't planning to do any training.

#1: You sound fine here but really its the amount of time you've been vegging that will decide weather she herms even foxtails later
.always carry a spare bulb, change it one time per year minimum, and or have a large CFL ready as a replace in case

#2: yes unless they are very squat, continue with the 6500k temp, as 6500k(mh) makes short interrnodes and 2700k(hps) makes internodes far apart ..
smear Vaseline on the thread, to ease extraction later

#3: Standard is one month veg and two months flower, tho each year I like to load up a 10 gallon pot and allow it to go 4-6 months or more
1 month veg and 2 month flower/bud should give you a plant about 3ft high(1meter) to get size increase your rez

Thanks man. Very insightful. Ive been in veg for almost 70 days and my plants are about 2.5 ft tall. My logic was bigger plants bigger yield, but im seeing that isnt necessarily true.

Thanks guys for all your help. Im just going to flower them now as its been almost 70 days. They have been ready. They just seemed so small to flower at the time. The strain is super silver haze btw. I will upload pics asap. I cant do it from my phone, i guess the files are to big. Thanks again. If you guys have any cloning tips let me know! Thats my next move.
