Being a senior NCO, and a student of history, also meant that I fully understood that what WE did wasn't shyte compared to our forefathers due to the fact that Haj SUCKS, he had NO air assets, limited and largely ineffective indirect fire assets, no armor, and he had the marksmanship abilities and discipline of a mongoloid retard. Compare that with taking on the Wehrmact, the Imperial Japanese Army, the soviet equipped North Korean army, or the soviet equipped North Vietnamese army, and you'll find there IS no comparison.

We got over compared to our forefathers, but we don't choose our "wars", do we?

The way I see it, a home invader isn't any better than the tards' that were trying to kill you, me, and our friends. And like Haj, they'll TRY to hide their intent as long as possible so as not to get shot the fuck in the face.

The logic of not wanting to die or carry the memory of killing another human. When most humans fear for their life, they flee like any other animal. It's called self-preservation. It's faaaar more effective than going out of your way to confront a life threatening situation. I bet you are the kind of person to argue against a ticket for failure to avoid an accident. "Sure, I could of easily avoided this whole mess, but.. eh"

That's really sad to hear that you could take a life so easily without a second thought or serious, honest threat to your own life. I wouldn't be proud of that at all. If that makes me a coward, so be it. I'd gladly accept the memory of killing somebody over watching innocent people die, or myself being killed, but I refuse to put myself or others into that situation just to look like some tough guy when it could have been avoided.

And a ticket for failure to avoid an accident means you just let the accident happen. For example, if somebody drifts into your lane and you have room to change lanes but don't.. guess what?. You failed to avoid an accident and can be cited a ticket for it. At least in my State you can. First your whole argument is based on an "innocent" person. If you are breaking into someones house you are far from innocent and need to accept the consequences. Which is more that likely going to be death. I wouldn't kill an innocent person, but I sure as hell would a person breaking into my residence.

Also, if someone drifts into your lane and you don't have time to react and get into an accident you won't get a ticket for that and if you do where you live you need to move, or maybe you don't cause that seems like it fits you pretty well.

Never has our judicial system handed out a death penalty for breaking and entering alone, though. Good thing you aren't a judge. In most places, the use of lethal weapons is reserved for life threatening situations only. This is an anti-coward law.

And for the record, I'll bet every State has a failure to avoid an accident ticket. Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident is a popular one. I thought you were trying to make me look like the idiot here? You aren't doing very well.

I live in one of most firearm restrictive countries on the planet and whilst we don't have castle doctrine per say, if you fear for the life of yourself or your family, you can paint the wall with the person.

That's how it works in the EU.

So if the exchange student wanted to be a good Samaritan he should've knocked on the front door, like anyone else with a brain would.

I still think the gun owner is a fool for not identifying or (at the very least locating) his target first...what sort of an idiot goes "spray and pray" with a shotgun in their own home?

Realistically, he probably did moar damage to his own place in $$$ than the kid could've stolen.

I have had my home broken into twice over the years, it's mostly kids with heroin addiction in my area. I own guns, and frankly wouldn't shoot someone for stealing my property. If they take off running when you show yourself with a gun they have no intention to harm, and it would be wrong to use lethal force.

If they stay it is up to the individual to try to decide what their threat level is. This guy blasted away into the dark, he did nothing but make gun owners look bad.

Two dogs solved my problem, haven't had a problem in years.
