Paradise Seeds

I've never had anything bad from Paradise Seeds, and I've grown and smoked most of the company's original catalogue. I've even become friends with breeder Luc Kroll over the past 20 years and in that time have been a test grower for strains including Swiss Bliss, Atomical Haze, Ice Cream, Opium, Nebulaze and Super Sensi Star (the last two were never released to the public). I've also grown Sensi Star, Nebula, Dutch Dragon, Sweet Purple, Beladonna, Acid and Wappa – as well as a few of my own crosses made with these genetics.

So after a small break from growing I decided it was time to try some of Luc's newer strains. I will be documenting a few different Paradise Seeds strains that have recently been released and I will be starting all the seeds. However, some of these strains will be going to other homes to finish flowering, so this should be an interesting thread with different strains and growers all doing their thing.

If anyone wants to share their experiences with Paradise Seeds, please post them here! Anyone can join this thread – all welcome.

Initially I will document the following strains: Rainbow Road, Tangerine Sorbet, Wappa, Sunset Paradise – and maybe one or two others.

Rainbow Road

This is one I've been waiting to try for a while. It's described as Paradise Seeds' biggest yielding sativa. I like sativas :bigjoint:

Strain description is in the link above, but this is a 60/40 sativa/indica that is a cross of Hindu Kush and Strawberry Sativa. Indoor yields are described as "monsterous", which you would expect for a 10-week strain.

I soaked 5 feminised seeds in a shot glass of water, and the next day they had all sunk to the bottom (unviable seeds usually float), after which I transferred them to some damp paper towel on top of my coffee machine (which keeps them warm and hastens propagation). Within 48 hours, all 5 seeds had sprouted and grown tails, and just two days later, all the seeds had popped out of their new coco homes and were doing well.

For the record, these seedings were started in straight coco with Hygen nutrients under a High Light 420 Gen2 3500K LED running at 100-150W in a small tent.

After 10 days they looked like this. There was already a bit of variation showing, with the middle plant being a bit more stretchy-sativa than the others, whilst the bottom right plant mutated almost immediately, growing three main stems that became apparent only after it had grown a bit more. Unfortunately I gave them all a hot-shot of nutrient after this and a few leaves suffered and the plants slowed down for a few days until I had flushed and they had recovered. That's what you get for not growing for a while . . .

A week later, they were back on track with only a slight amount of burn to some of the leaves, mainly on the more sativa pheno.

And three days later all the plants were at about three weeks of veg since popping up. There isn't too much variation at this stage, but there are some sublte differences in growth, with one particular plant showing short, squat growth (the mutated plant, see post below this one), and another showing its legs (the sativa), whilst the remaining three plants are in-between. All the plants have nice thick main stems and the growth and leaf structure appear to lean a little more to the indica side than sativa, IMO. Under 18/6 these plants are pretty average feeders, although they really seem to have taken off in the past few days and there are no more signs of nutrient excess. They are getting a bit of extra Cal-Mag and I am setting the pH at about 5.8 going in and measuring up to 6.5 coming out – which is right where it should be. pH will slowly rise in a heathy system as the plants use up their nutrient. Allowing pH drift enables all nutrients to be available to the plant at different times.

Here is the mutant. I didn't notice the three main stems at first, but now it is growing like three separate plants! It is certainly growing faster than all the others and appears to need the more nutrient than the others.

Here is a side view showing how bushy it is

And here is the sativa. I've always had a soft spot for sativas, so this one is becoming a favourite:

And a final group shot under the High Light 420. The plants are low-odor at this stage, so you can only really smell them if you rub the stems. The satvia pheno is sweetest, probably due to its Strawberry Sativa origins, whilst the mutant has the most interesting smell of funky, skunky berries. The others are "kushy".

Isn't a review something you do after you've used a product? This looks more like a journal. Good luck in your endeavors!
Yes and no. It is a "Seed Review" after all, as I've grown enough Paradise Seeds strains to offer an opinion on most. And you don't see a lot of Paradise Seeds grow reports or reviews so I thought I'd just put everything in here.

Plus, if someone wants to ask me a question about any of the strains I've already posted about growing in the first post, I'm happy to provide a "review".

Last group shot of the Rainbow Road seedlings before they were shipped off to their new home today. They will get 1-2 weeks more veg before flip to 12/12 in this grow room, which we are hoping to document with a time-lapse camera as they flower: http://instagr.am/p/CbLAicyjiEx/
I have my eye on the sativa pheno :eyesmoke:

And here's a close-up of the mutant, which is a trifoliate (ie: three branches from each node instead of two). I have seen this type pf branching structure in a lot of Blueberry derived strains and they are often better yielders than their twin-branching cousins. They also tend to pass this trait on to their progeny.

Glowstarz

An executive decision was made to germinate one of Luc's latest strains, Glowstarz, as there have been very fery reports on this strain (as it's so new). These are actually test seeds that were given to me prior to the strain's official release. It is a cross of the San Fernando Valley OG Kush and Gelato #33. I was going to germ some Paradise Sunset (Paradise Seeds' version of the Gelato), but I liked the description of the Glowstarz "fun and euphoric" high. This is an eight-week strain and it looks similar to an OG#18 cut I grew last year, so I am expecting a similar run with the same lengthy banch structure and yield as the buds fill in their branches.

Five seeds in a shot glass of plain water with a few drops of 6% H2O2. The hydrogen peroxide kills any pathogens and helps soften the seed casings. You only need a few drops to soak the seeds for less than a minute before you top the shot glass up with water. This is a very good way to germinate old seeds (these seeds aren't old, but I germ all my seeds the same way). I expect these seeds to sink by tomorrow, after which they will be transferred to some damp paper towel with another couple of drops of H2O2.

Wappa's a great strain. We've kept a cut going for over nine years now and it's still the most popular strain with the masses.

Nice lights mate. Do please let us all know what you're using. You know I have a vested interested in these grows. It also looks like someone has been in here since last night to clean up the mess. Glad to see things are back on track.

:weed:
Yes, I was naughty. But I didn't start it. Blah, blah.

Anyway, back to the thread . . . 48 hours later all five seeds have germinated. I like to grow the tails a bit before I transplant into coco.

Sorry @Grow Lights Australia I forgot to mention the lights. Full disclosure, I also have a vested interest in the lights being used as I designed them.

The propagation light is a High Light 420 "Gen2" 3500K LED with a 240W driver. It is usually set at 100-150W for most of the seed run.
IMG_7298.jpeg

Rainbow Road will be flowered under 3x 500W High Light "Gen2" 3100K Longboards in a 3m x 2.6m room with CO2.

Glowstarz will be under two of the same lights in a 1.2m x 1.2m tent.

And Tangerine Sorbet will be flowered in a 3.6m x 3.6m room under 8x 500W High Light "Gen2" 3100K Quads with no CO2. Here is the room:

Nic cillection mate! Yes, I remember the original Sensi Star and I kept a clone that looks very similar to yours. It was the indica leaning pheno that was like mentholatum and lemon fuel. Short and squat with on big cola, I kept that clone for many years. I still have some pre-femmed Sensi Star seeds in the fridge, as well as numerous crosses with my SS keeper clone.

So how was the El Dorado?

And what did you think of the Rainbow Road?
