I’ve got a weird Pistachio (Humboldt seed co) plant that has branches that grow off each stem vertical to the stem.. literally are growing straight up along the side of the stem.
it one of my “extra” plants and I’m tempted to just let it go and do it’s thing, but I thought I’d ask you guys/ladies advice about pruning or thinning out some of these branches.
my only concern is that leaving it go… it developed a mass of branches and leaves which will most likely invite pests and/or mold.

Yeah. It’s weird, I popped the seeds and the other 4 are not growing like this. The new branch growth literally grows straight up parallel to the branch it grows from.
don’t really know how to think out the branches.

I had a plant once that from about halfway up, grew a strange flat trunk and then some really strange branch formations... but the buds smoked great! I'd let her do her thing, as long as she flowers it could be a winner. I had one seedling this summer start completely mutated. I've got room, so I let her go to see what happened. When it was time to up-pot I put her on the side in a smaller pot, thinking she wouldn't amount to much, and now I wish I'd put her in a bigger pot, she practically caught up to the others. You just never know what they'll do until they're done.

Hey all. I'm late to the party, but I thought I'd check in. It's been an unconventional season so far. Things are a lot more normal now but were slow going through what would normally be prime time. I didn't plant a all my plants until 2-3 weeks later than normal. I left them in starter pots until late may. I have 5 strains this year. Zurple punch #6, gelato 41, ice cream cake, triple chocolate chip, and an Oregon diesel.

The gelato and zurple punch are in the ground, the triple chocolate chip and ice cream cake are in 5 gallon smart pots, and the Oregon diesel has been a let down. It's currently in a 3 gallon pot and for the better part of the last 2 months has been confused. It was flowering up until about 3 weeks ago and has no reverted to vegging.

All the info I'm finding on the strain says it's an auto flower which I was unhappy about but it's no longer flowering so I guess it's just confused. I'm just keeping it watered and seeing what it's gonna do. It's throwing out single blade leaves at the moment.

The rest of my plants are doing as good as can be expected. The zurple punch is a big hedge that has branches that run 90° angles so it's gonna be a pain to keep it supported without fully wrapping it in trellis netting. The gelato is much smaller and being overtaken by its neighbor. I bent down and snapped over half of the plant about a week ago to spread out the canopy. It's recovering and solidifying nicely now.

The 2 in 5 gallons will be sent into light dep on the 24th. I want my mobile ones to finish early to avoid as much shit as I can. All in all, the season hasn't been too terrible, and the weather has recovered nicely.

Happy growing all.

I'm trying to post pics but I think the file sizes are too big. It won't let me

Oregon Diesel is touchy that way, I grew it for about 5 years! Great early finishers, nice smoke! But I believe to get the strain to finish so early it was crossed with an auto.
I never put mice outdoors until late May and I kept my supplemental lights at 16 hours so that it wasn’t a huge difference in daylight hours when iput it out.
I never had an OD not reveg that started to flower, but 5 years ago or so, ihad that happen with a couple Amnesia Hashplants. They got too deep into flower and then hermied on me.

It appears to have some Ruderalis as per the three-fingered leaves

Damn it's hot.

Plants are growing. I had to change my plans. I was going to try and go with nothing but cannabis JLF for nutrients but It wasn't cutting it so I had to adapt and supplement with some additional food. It might have worked if I had used a richer soil but I used Black Gold Natural and Organic that I got at Fred Meyers. It's not a bad soil but there isn't much in it. Had I been thinking I would have added some compost and EWC since I have plenty of it. I don't know why I didn't. They're doing okay now though so I got on it in time.

The ones in the second photo have really started stretching and have been throwing preflowers for quite awhile. They're half Egyptian Sinai which can exhibit semi autoflowering traits so I'm hoping it will be quick to flower and quick to finish. I don't know how that strain will turn out but I took a couple clones awhile back so if it's anything good I'll play with it a little over the winter and probably make some feminized seeds.

The plants have been in the same spots throughout this heat in their 3.5 gallon pots. I soak them in the morning and give them a top up late afternoon.

I've also been testing a bee safe, 100% natural insecticide I've been working on. I don't have any bugs or bites that I've seen on any of the plants so I think it's working. One of my concerns was how it would affect the leaves. I've been spraying every 3-4 days and there's been no damage. One of my concerns was potential phytotoxicity due to the heat but no problems. So I'm happy about that. The spray is so safe that you could drink it without any ill effects. I tested that on myself but won't be doing it again as it tastes like crap.

I hope everyone's plants are growing good. :leaf:

Looking good! Have you grown in 3.5 gallon pots before? The smallest I ever tried with a photo was 5 gallon, and I wasn't prepared (or equipped) for all the additional feeding and watering it needed compared to larger pots. I got spoiled growing them in the ground, it doesn't get any easier than that, and when I grew in pots they ranged from 20-100 gallons. Now I'm growing in 5 gallon pots but they're autos, and honestly if my back weren't messed up I'd be in 10's or 15's. More soil seems so much more forgiving and easier to work with. I'm curious why you chose small pots?

I always grow in small pots. I don't want big plants. I want to be able to move them if needed when company comes over. Not all company but I have friends that don't smoke or have kids. I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable or some preteen going "Is that a pot plant?" I basically just grow outdoors in the summer when it's too hot for me to grow under lights. The real magic happens indoors.

I hear you about the back though. I'm just getting back to normal after messing mine up. I forget I'm not in my 20's anymore. I can still do the same stuff but I pay for it and recovery times can take awhile. I need to start thinking about some of the physical stuff I do because there's going to come a time when there is no recovery.

Ah, the sights and smells of a September harvest... The Seawarp looks promising, so far.

Anyone else have a photoperiod that's showing apical flowers?
Check this out, I posted these on another thread. These pics are from this morning, I have no idea why they are so advanced for the end of July, I look every day twice a day for signs of Hermie, but I can’t find any.

That all makes sense. As an alternative way to keep them smaller, have you ever tried just starting them later in the season? Shorter veg time/smaller plants. Bottom line, whatever works for you, it's all good. In 5 gallon pots I've got to feed my girls with every watering, but at least they'll be done soon, most within the next few weeks.

Hey all. Fuck this weather! I'm all for warm, nice, sunny weather, but this shit sucks. On the good side of it the plants are handling it amazingly. They haven't shown any severe signs of heat stress other than a tiny bit of tacoing of the leaves. I've been watering every 2-3 days for all my plants, ground and potted.

I had intended to get my 2 in 5 gallons into light dep a week ago but this heat is killing me and I've been procrastinating. They're still fully in the elements throughout the day. The 2 in the ground seem to love this weather. They've been noticeably stretching, and getting ready for flowering time.

I've started putting the bug netting up in sections. They're not fully closed in yet, but they're about 40% there. I can't find the time to get it all done, and the heat really makes it unbearable to do. I'll get to it in the next week. I really don't want to worms messing up my flowers this year.

The diesel is back into normal flower mode I believe. It reveged for about a month and was just starting to throw out normal leaves again, it's just a large bundle of fan leaves currently with pistols coming out. The lower half is covered with sugar leaf and funky curled buds.

I don't really have many complaints about the season to this point. Everything is coming together nicely so far. I still have to trim out all the interior of the zurple punch. The gelato is all cleaned up. The trunk on the zurple punch is about pint glass thick. It might be best to date so far, not sure

In about a week or two I'll have a massive influx of tomatoes which is nice. My mom loves to make salsa! 20220731_204658.jpg
