Ontario outdoor. Monster plant small buds???

Personally I would have done a lot more trimming of leaves and sucker branches lower down on the plant to focus the energy to the buds. It's probably too late to do that, as people say it stresses the plant to do anything too drastic late into flower. But yea I would have snipped off all the small nodes and branches on the inside of the plant while it was still vegging since you aren't going to get much from those small branches anyways and they reduce airflow and increase mold likelihood. Also I've tried to do that early in flower and usually I just use my fingernails to pinch off unwanted nodes, but the plant had gotten all woody and I would have needed like a pet claw snipper to prune those off so I gave up and left it.

Other than that yea it looks like it has a ways to go. Maybe 5 more weeks ideally, but you may have to settle for 3 depending on weather.

Where are you growing? I'm in Southern Ontario btw

I'm in southern Ontario as well.

I did a shit load of trimming in the first couple weeks of flower but looking at it now I should have done a lot more.

I'm hoping the weather holds out until late October. Thinking to build a hoop house to get a couple more weeks out of it. Has anyone done anything like this? Post some pics or links if to DIY setups if you have.

I will probably try to re purpose it to keep some leafy greens going through the fall and early spring.

I tried a few different strains of sativa and found they started flowering too late. By the time they should be fattening up there is not enough sun/nice days and the buds just don't really fill out before the frost hits.

I saw my first pistil on August 15th. Is that pretty late for southern Ontario?

No my Indica which flowers and finishes faster than Sativa started flowering on August 5. That's when the stretch began. My plants are starting on Week 7 today, although they are pollinated by hemp I'm allowing them to go until Week 10 if October weather stays in 15-18 high range and 7-10 low range. my leaves are starting to purple. Your bud started flowering right time but since it's Sativa you may not harvest until Halloween

Im Southwestern Ontario , I have the following growing

- Barneys farm : Blueberry OG
- Barneys farm: Blue Gelato 41
- Delicious Seeds - Green Crack
- Reserva privada: OG kush

I topped all except Green Crack ... Not sure if anyone of you cultivated your soil but it does help! Worm castings, fish meal, compost from the winter months... My soil was prepped right after harvesting. These plants are being fed for another week 0-50-34 and nothing but water till harvest time which varies for each strain. Green Crack will be the first to be chopped around week 1 Oct they are getting nice and full and have put on some volume. Check your trichomes as well! Good indication when to harvest. On the other hand I have been treating my Trainwreck from native seed co. (Purchased from a convenience store) like my baby. It is looking nice and healthy and has grown very big but my bud growth is a little disappointing so far.

I am looking for some tips or even just reassurance from other growers that they will fill out in the next 4 weeks or so.

A little background on my plant;

- during veg I used homemade nettle tea, homemade compost tea and a 5-1-1 fish emulsion until what I deemed to be 2nd week flower.
-during flowering I have been feeding general organics bio bud, bio thrive bloom and calmag.
-she recieves about 8 hours of direct and indirect sun through the leaves of a tree for the rest of the day.

Has anybody heard of native seed co? I am wondering if it is the genetics or if it is due to sunlight issues or something else.

I purchased some of their seeds that I grew indoor first time this year just harvested in August and it was their Green Crack ideal flowering schedule is 12/12 I think that would make a difference, harvest could be prolonged a bit but you'll get there! I'd use something with high Phosphourus and Potash no need for nitrogen. (NPK). Pic attached is Native Seed - Green Crack but indoor grown quite happy with it and terpenes on this smells like fruit and caramel, sharp high! ... If you are doing outdoor in Ontario then October is the make or break month. October's temperatures can fluctuate a lot since it really is the first month of fall. You want highs in the teens or 20 if possible and nothing lower than 5 which constant could cause budrot, powdery mildew or shock your plant. Indica is hardy in the cold. Sativa not so much.

You should take a look at the frost thread. It's pretty reassuring to see how many people have had frost with no issues.
There's a temperature at which the plants stop photosynthesizing, off the top of my head daytime temps of 12 are the bare minimum, but I'd have to look it up to be sure.

Hell yes! Those plants are beautiful. Sounds like you have some good genetics as well.

Any problems with pollination where you are in the southwest? A lot of people are having issues from nearby hemp farms by the sounds.

I used the municipal compost this spring in my beds and I wouldnt reccomend it to anyone. It was really clumpy and full of plastic, glass and other garbage. This is my first year building a compost pile and I have been sourcing coffee grounds and veggie scraps from local sources and using leaves from last fall as browns. The whole process of building and turning a steaming pile is almost as fun as growing trees lol.

You said you used compost from the winter months. Any tips on keeping the pile going over the winter?

Bud development is coming along nicely. Lots of growth in the past week.

I just hope she matures before mid October and bud rot and powdery mildew dont become an issue.

I was listening to the KIS podcast I believe episode 7 or 8 with Clakamas Coot and he was saying topped plants will take an extra 7-10 days for flowering time. Has anyone else heard about this or have experience to validate?

From what I see this year outdoors all of my friends who didnt top are a about a week or so ahead of mine.

It would make sense as a topped plant will have to have a recovery period from being topped and will be expected to grow more biomass in the same amount of time.

But if you’re growing outdoors, flowering will be determined by Mother Nature, and unless you’re topping them close to when they start flowering, i can’t see why it would take too much longer than a non-topped plant (especially if plants are in the ground and not in pots)

Looking good, mine started flowering ~17th of Aug in Essex County. I got the powdery mildew this last week, I'll be spraying with baking soda / water / soap, spraying with magnesium sulfate and when I harvest I'll be washing in peroxide/water before drying. Seeing gains daily, hoping to get to a full 8 weeks but I'll be pulling a few early, eggs in one basket avoidance. Images from today. IMG_2987.JPG IMG_2994.JPG

Loving the colors in the leaves!

I have been doing some spot treatments on leaves with safers defender the last couple mornings on some small PM patches. I'm hoping to keep it at bay for another 2 weeks or so. If it spreads to any buds I will chop them.

I'm also thinking of doing the hydrogen peroxide soak on harvest day.

Treated with baking soda and water with a little soap and noticed these. I'm gonna go double check because now I see more than 4. These were on my pineapple express, its just a baby with a few colas and that's the main one. I also lost the last split branch I had to yesterdays 35 mph gusts. It's been barely hanging on for a long time but it didn't wilt until this morning so off it came. You can see the baking soda residue on the leaves which is what we're after. It should alter the ph enough to halt the spread of any powdery mildew while being safe enough to drink (actually good for anyone full of shit) Just 1 tablespoon per gallon a with few drops of safe dish soap. BTW I did treat earlier with BT for worms I may reapply once more depending on weather, you need 4 days without rain for it to work as intended.

I guess I'm a little late on this recap but better later than never.

For anyone worried about their buds not filling out, this plant taught me a lesson in patience. It was definately a long flowering bitch but she paid off with 53 oz and about a pound of popcorn buds for making butter.

I ended up cutting her down 2nd week of october due to powdery mildew starting to get out of control but I probably should have left it for at least 2 more weeks. The end product is nothing to complain about :)
