This is all part of Obama's plan to run against congress. It won't work. In the end, this election will be a referendum on Obama, not on the republican candidate and not on the congress, on Obama.

By making a recess appointment when Congress was clearly not in recess is an overreach of executive power. And this wasnt a mistake. Obama and the Democrats used the same tactic of keeping congress open to block recess appointments by George Bush.

Now however, since it has become inconvenient, Obama has simply forgotten that and done something that is clearly a breach of the balance of powers.

The other annoying thing is that this guy never got blocked, has not been held up, etc. There hasnt even been time to vet this person nominated to a very powerful new government department that was just created. They are not calling people Czars anymore but the basic structure is still there.

By the separation of powers, congress is supposed to control the purse strings and the executive branch the veto powers, etc.

But by creating these departments and abusing other departments like the Department of Energy, the president has managed to get ahold of the purse strings and start doling out taxpayer money to companies like Solyndra and others. This is not how the government was designed to operate. That has never stopped this president though and to say he doesnt know or understand what he is doing is laughable as he taught constitutional law as a college professor.

And if you think what he is doing now is bad, a 2nd term without repercussions would be much worse.

Obama honestly believes that if he micromanages every aspect of our society he can somehow make it "fair" for everyone. And he is not worried about violating the constitution, balance of powers or any other governmental body to do it.

If you guys keep doing all this crying....you are not going to leave anything for the babies to do .... Waa Waa ...poor little Obama haters...

Hush, little baby, don't say a word, Obama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird don't sing, Obama's gonna buy you a diamond ring.
And if that diamond ring turns brass, Obama's gonna buy you a looking glass.
And if that looking glass gets broke, Obama's gonna buy you a billy goat.
And if that billy goat don't pull, Obama's gonna buy you a cart and bull.
And if that cart and bull turn over, Obama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover.
And if that dog named Rover won't bark. Obama's gonna buy you a horse and cart.
And if that horse and cart fall down, Well you'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.

Likely not. All who are so certain that Obama will be a one term president becuse it is so "obvious" to all that he is a failure believe that this election will be a referendum on Obama and have nothing to do with the other candidate. This election will have EVERYTHING to do with the other candidate and the more similar the other candidate is to Obama the more likely it is that Obama will win.

Consider:

Bush confounded and extorted (with the help of Cheney who held fast to the nutzoid unitary executve and all the extraordiary powers this fantasy awarded the president) the nation into giving him far more power than the Constitution seems to award him. Obama took those shiny new power tools, is adding a few new ones and is delighted with the consequences of his actions. Now, imagine a Romney inheriting all of that power. In my opinion, Obama is less frightening.

Obama could win, but he has a very uphill challenge. He promised and didn't deliver, it's as simple as that. Democrats can "think" Romney would do a bad job, but Obama has "done" a bad job. That's why he can't run on his record, he has to run on the other guy. Obama had his chance, I think it's only fair that Romney has his. If Romney fails, Obama can come back and run in '16, he's plenty young enough.

obama's recent "recess" appointment was a nice fuck you to congress. i liked it.

what else was he supposed to do? a law was passed establishing the CFPB, and that law stated that the CFPB needed a head. republicans tried to block cordray in an attempt to alter an existing law. sorry, that's not how it works. the law was passed, they can either try to repeal it, pass a new one....but to stop implementation of a law that was passed is nonsense.

if there are not enough people in congress to do any work, they are quite technically in recess. i loved obama's move here.

If Obama couldn't get his nominee approved he should have pulled the nomination and appointed someone else. But we will all remember this when the democrats don't like President Romney's nominations. Obama is creating a lot of "other shoe" for future democrats.

Just as Bush did.

do you not follow news?

the republicans did not want someone else, they wanted to alter the law such that a committee headed the CFPB, not a head.

if that is what they wanted, they are free to introduce legislation, but the law as passed was not that way.

they can go cry in their cornflakes, and you can to. you want to bet $10,000 that romney is unelectable?

by the way, obama has made FAR FEWER recess appointments than previous administrations. it is not even close.

A more moderate nominee would have been approved.

It's Obama who is unelectable. Can you show us an electoral path to his winning?

again, you must not be following the news.

the republicans made it very clear that they wanted a committee, not a head.

what part of this do you not get and why do you keep repeating falsehoods?

lol.

obama has no less than a dozen paths to 270. if you wish to start a "path to 270 thread" feel free to do so.

That's ridiculous. A committee would have been one way Obama could have gotten it done, but he was too stubborn. Republicans even made suggestions of who they would have approved but they were ignored. Hey, it's fine with me. Politically Obama is losing on this.

You're the one who brought up electability in THIS thread. Now you can't even show us which states you say Obama can win.
