How much does genetics really matter for seeds? How much of it is a scam?

I have smoked a lot of weed...
It has changed over the years...
It will change again...how I don't know
That said....

I know a good high when I feel one...
I know superior genetics when I see them
I know superior growers when I encounter one
I am an OG.

I have seen growers produce mega beautiful plants.
With perfect nugs ...frost monsters
Not a 'hairy' nug in sight...just perfectly dense nugs
So genetics can improve with the grower

I have seen absolute shit shows that shine due to powerful genetics. They both go hand in hand.

As for growing the fire
I can compete at canna cup levels in hydro...
I know this...
I am however NEW to strictly coco coir growing.
I can't compete with anyone in that

I know that as more people start to grow...
The weak growers will thin out
As large hoop house growers fail to put out fire
Buyers will seek other sellers

I am wait for cannabis rescheduling..
I think it will open the flood gates to even more growers. I think $100 is the lowest cannabis will dive before people start paying $200-$300 an Oz again...

I just bought 5 packs of seeds from Shoreline genetics...his packs have fire in them...
I just have to find it.
Chem 91
ECSD
DeathStar
Shoreline
Crippy...
All old school ...so we shall see
Crippy is available in clone form.
Just saying.

I’m closer to 40 than 30, much less 20 lol and I’ll take today’s weed over the old mexi brick and beasters any day. Sure you could find dank back then but you were gonna pay 60 an 1/8, never mind how much more worry free growings gotten. It’s an easy to grow plant, as long as the parents were decent and the grow environment too aside from some outliers most of the weeds gonna be decent too. People with different world views make seeds too, like some folk are profit driven and will charge what the market can bear, others just want people to have medicine they can afford but still have overhead so they charge enough to cover it, others just want to share a cool thing they made fuck the money. That’s why seeds that grow into dank can range from free to several hundred a pack
I'm not comparing brick weed, thats too much back haha
But I think what you said is very coherent and on point indeed.

Hunting ?
You even read the thread or just here to slip a non relevant msg ?
This concept is not hard to understand
Either your starting point is good or it's not.
You can absolutely get shitty phenos from elite mothers, that's where working the line comes to play, we are fed up with hunting, we want the old times back when breeders actually do their job and work their lines so us buying those lines can actually hit what the breeders deep heart intent was.
Times where you go to a coffeeshop, smoke some shit, think it's bomb, go buy seeds from a known breeders and get that elite in your house.
But they won't do it, and why ? People pay so much for F1 or S1 it's insane.
No one has an incentive to do the work.
Professor P just dropped an F5 of Mt Hood Huckleberry, and his Blue Magoo is at f3 I think?

AKBB has f5 Kali Mist and IBL NL strains.

Bohdi openly expresses he breeds packs for the purpose of hunting, and he does his due diligence to test them out before release or mark them NFT (Not fully tested) most of the time his packs run 50 bucks.

I agree breeders should do better, but I'm a firm believer that we as buyers should do the work to find the good stuff and show what we want with our dollars.

I know shoreline is legit, but its always suss when people have regular seed of clone only plants. Like, how did lucky dog and Shoreline BX chem 91 when it was one of many bagseed from a dead show, and all the seeds popped females?
I cant speak for Shoreline....

I will say that if you cross a male to the clone only...
Then select a male to back cross to the clone only
You get a back cross that is reg
how many times you back cross said selection will put out a definite leaner.

I will say that I know what chem 91 looks like...
I will grow out 10 plants an scope the '91 signature
I will also smoke all said females...the cream shall rise to the top.

If nothing pans out...
I will run CSI Humboldt's chem '91
He uses reversal spray to collect pollen to hit the clone only with.

Why don't you put some work in, find some reputable breeders and do like the rest of us. Maybe you should be buying $500 clones for the "fire" you're looking for.

Also, with all your wisdom, could you please tell me when all these magical packs of fire disappeared? More than 8 years ago you say?

I know about the Tampa crippy sunshine state has...
I specifically wanted the 808 genetics crippy...
I have seen the pics an one looks more like an OG
Plus I want to put the Supa Kauai story to bed
What's the 808 crippy? I lived in Broward County in the mid 90's and that was the only one I knew of. It was also the first $50 eights I'd ever seen and it was worth it at the time.

1994-Kind Bud- I would smoke then play my guitar for an hour or so until my buzz started wearing off.

2024-Flavor of the moment weed- I would smoke then play my guitar for an hour or so until my buzz started wearing off.

About the same I would say. As time goes on we all look back fondly and think somehow it was different than perhaps it actually was. Its human nature. Coming from a guy who smoked like a maniac for 20+ years then quit for 20 years and now smoke again. The only thing different I've noticed is that in general the weed is better on average but at the top tier its about the same as I remember it was. My .02 cents.

I didn't know that growing decent weed would be this hard. I started growing because for some reason I thought any homegrown weed would be better than dispensary weed. I thought anything I grew would be good smoke. Couldn't be farther from the truth. All my grows so far worse than dispensary. I'm beginning to think even the good schwag from back in the day was the result of very selective breeding. The average weed you grow will be just a plant basically. It may or may not have some THC. Basically I believe seedmakers just sell whatever. They can and they will do this because you'll never know until you smoke it 4 months later.

you sound a bit bitter there jimbob.. and I suppose I would be too if I had invested time growing stuff I don’t like. How many grows/different strains have you got under your belt? Because what you’re saying makes little to no sense to me.. with a bit of research and a little prior knowledge you can definitely get some amazing strains through good breeders.
Do you have the characteristics in mind you are wanting to grow? Flavour profile/colours/density/euphoric/couchlock/trichome heavy? Different strains offer different profiles and some may not be to your taste.. it’s taken me years to know what I like to grow (heavy shit that makes your head feel like it’s falling off your shoulders when you tip your head back), and my good friend who also grows likes the complete opposite (mild, cerebral speedy stuff you can function on)..
paying a grand for a good strain is fine I guess but it’s going to suck if it’s still not to your taste.

No way. 1994 Kind = 2 hour high any time of the day. Even after first bowl.
2024 Polyhybrid (can't even call it Kind) = 1 hour high in the morning only.

Don't think too deeply about flavor profiles. If I had to choose I like the way old school kind bud smells and taste, which is not found in today's weed.

My favorite weed I smoked was northern cali/humboldt/PNW kind which were all the piny and citrusy, Chronic which was more like Dutch Skunk, and NYC Haze/Piff which was like the east coast version of Chronic. Also smoked Super Skunk, NL, Silver Pearl, and Vermont Kush. These were the best marijuanas I smoked in my life. Yeah people tell me to grow Humboldt CSI Pine Tar Kush. They think for some reason its old school bud and similar to those old school varieties. Or some people say Bodhi. I'm currently growing Piff Coast, which the seller told me himself is similar to the haze I used to buy in Washington Heights in 1999.

I think you shouldnt be releasing anything untested maybe as freebies with a warning but im old fashioned that way he has some good gear but i disagree with that its one thing to give em to yer pals but to sell em they need to be solid imo
