That's why I used the word significant in my description, for people like you!

911 claimed more lives than the War of 1812 did combat deaths.
Look, saying the battle of New Orleans was not a significant battle on American soil screams ignorance.

And they say around 20,000 people died in combat in the war of 1812. So your numbers are off. By a lot.

EDIT: getting multiple numbers of deaths in the war of 1812. Hard to say at this point.
Btw, because a certain number of people died in a war, does not render a battle insignificant.

Bro, I was making a point why we haven't fought a major war with a foreign country on our own soil in many years for a reason. With all due respect, it wasn't a post on the history of American wars.
And significant is a relative term you took out of context, like Obama's "bump in the road"

I think it has a lot to do with the Japanese from WW2 with Yamamotos blades of grass statement.

Even then, we had battles in the Aleutians.

And frankly, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying anymore.

Anywho, enjoy!

They burnt down practically all goverment buildings in Washington DC during the war of 1812, including the Capital Building & the White House. Nice of the Brits to leave private homes intact

I'm not making light of the War of 1812, when I was making a point that the US has not fought a significant battle with a foreign nation on her own soil, it was in context to wars like WW1 and WW2. I guess it's my bad for assuming everyone else would see that.

That would be like me saying you are wrong for claiming the British burnt down the White House when in fact it wasn't burnt down.

But I assumed you meant burnt the White House!

Nuclear war in the middle east is pretty unwise no matter who foments it. Radioactivity and fallout affects everyone on earth. Hell, there are folks on our western coast who are freaked about japanese fallout, imagine what a dozen nukes would do.

Yeah that's how I took it. If you had referenced ww2 or 1, then I would not have said anything.

The sunsets would be pretty, though.

(The reasoning of much of this thread is on about that level imo.) cn

Never mind the possible irradiation and permanent destruction of oil fields in many places in the gulf region "you want us to drill there? If you wait 3000 years we will get right on that"

Do you really think China give a fuck?
Has China EVER given a fuck?

If they wanted to take those islands they just would, this is all a show of force without being seen to be the aggressor.

China truthfully has the US by the nuts this time...what happens if they dump the 3+ trillion USD in Treasuries they have and want their money back?
The American economy is deeper than the Chinese one. They would literally destroy their country by doing that. They would do it in 20 years or so when they have an economy not built on just us. The Chinese government knows they would have a new Chinese revolution if that happened. You should look into the Chinese economy, its in shambles. They are going to bust 10x's worse than we did.

There is even a song about it. A parody of 1814 :)

You know, even the Brits do something right every once in a while. I'd like to burn Washington DC down too.
