I suppose you are referring to violence with the cartels. The US is to thank for that. Every bit of demand for drugs is in the US and that is how the US funds one side of the conflict. The other side of the conflict is also from the US in the form of IMF funding and overt military aid. HSBC even launders cartel money and the ATF even sends weapons south on gun walking operations with faulty GPS units.
The most militarized border on earth and the second most densely militarized (after Korea) wasn't much more than a line on a map until the same year NAFTA was forced upon Mexico. At least Pemex is still safe from Merica's grubby hands.

I get very lost. I have driven around Ascot and Camberly, out to Stonehenge, all on the correct, but oh so wrong side of the road.
But, in the nautical line I have spent all day at Portsmouth in the pouring rain, on HMS Victory. Very realistic in the rain. And not a lot of people. So, I am very well versed in the details of the Age of Sail, so I played pretend all day.
Capt., gunner, armorer, sleepy midshipmen, helmsman.....all day...
