Robert Fernandes, an IT manger from Forks Township, PA, has three children. None of which go to the local public school in their new town. “We home school our children. Doing so has many associated costs,” says Fernandes. Regardless of the fact that the Fernandes family doesn’t use the public school system he got a tax bill for $7,143.

“The town’s tax system is broken up. There are about 3 different taxes assessed on property owners. The school’s portion of the property tax bill comes in the mail right as children of the public school system head back into class after the Summer months.” In protest, Fernandes went to the bank and took out $7,134 in single USDs. He loaded the thousands into a duffle bag, stopped by the doughnut shop and headed to the local tax office in the Easton Area School District to pay his “fair share”. “I brought the doughnuts just in case anyone felt I was trying to inconvenience them. I wanted to be friendly and cordial. I just wanted to prove my point,” says Fernandes. More than 10,000 people lose their home in PA every year because of the burdensome property taxes. Fernandes makes clear in the video that this process in not voluntary. He is only paying in fear that if he does not pay- someone will show up at his house to take his property away from him and his family.

I have worked with GOV/CITY

all you have to know is that if there is a way for them to do 50% of the work they have to they will use that option.

EX.) make him count the money at a bank then return the tickets.

Also the other 50% of the work must be free from consequence, also why they made a bank count the money. someone to blame if something goes wrong.

I knew someone that worked in the county treasurers office.

They had someone come in and try and pay his taxes in pennies.

they made him take them to the bank and exchange them.

It's not those poor clerks fault you pay taxes

you'd be taking your frustrations out on the wrong people.

they're just doing their job like everyone else.

Taxes for single home owners and old folks suck!
People without kids or people who have kids past 19 shouldn't have to pay school tax.
I understand property tax but the school tax kills me more and more each year.
People on a fixed income have to sell their property.

All and all the govt wants us to be dependent on them.
Sell your land and live in section 8 housing where they have you under their thumb.

Even with Obama's great recovery programs I still see homes and business being put up for sale.

Yes, I paid plenty then and still do now.
Do you own your home or other property?

It's a bit of rape when that tax bill arrives in the mail.
Last year it increased 15% and my panties are in a bunch.

yes I do, and I don't have a problem with paying the school tax levy.

we also pay school tax based on income.

the property tax on the other hand....

sux

we only have a 1.5 mill school levy.

I don't mind paying 150$ for every 100k in property value.

of course that is on top of the income school tax, not sure what that works out to.

"Sir, I'm only fucking you over because I'm getting paid to do so."

how is it the poor women who work as clerks in the treasurers office fucking you over?

splain that one.

They didn't assess the tax, or pass any levies alone.

they are there to accept your payment and give you a receipt......that's it.

don't like the bill, take it up with the auditor, not the treasurer.

I think you don't understand how county governments work.

or levies for that matter.

I think the whole point of this thread is about real money as compared to electronic banking.

Years ago i remember a guy protesting his tax bills.
He delivered his payment in a wheelbarrow filled with pennies.

The govt tells us this is real money which it is.
Local govt doesnt have a coin counter or bill counting machines like they do at Vegas or a bank.

If they did, the purchase of these machines would be bought through the taxpayer.
Thus resulting in more taxes.

Certainly not the fault of the person working for the tax office but they need to do their job.
All jobs have bad days.
