Can you please take a pic of your plants that this genius of enginuity system leads to? I'd love to see what type of sticks that go into the pot's soil to water the roots or however you do it lusid. I'm not sure what those things are called but I would genuinely appreciate knowing your brand you use as I'm sure you have tested numerous and I absolutely am not trying to reinvent the wheel. I just harvested and dried my first successful grow finally, DWC Hydro and got 3 jars curing of Jack Herer. Yielded about 3 oz off a $80 Bestva blurple
I'm just curious because I want to switch to soil as I heard it can increase terpenes and I'm looking for a more natural way of nutes instead of liquid nutes. Was thinking veganix soil and beneficial nematodes. Really want to learn about your setup because it's very well done and I'm still new so I'm just looking for experienced advice from all the Gro-Bros.

So what are pros and cons vs soil and hydro? I know hydro can die easier due to plant neglect and soil can help it survive a bit longer until it gets the proper care. Other than that and the rumor I heard that soil is better terpenes, I don't understand the benefits of each clearly.

1) Good for the forum, no one sticks around a forum were the last thread reply was a week ago.
2) Good for the search results
Each time someone asks the same question, a slightly different way, google picks it up & that sends more people here.
3) Good for the forum Via Advertisers. More new activity = more ad dollars
4) Good for social interaction/mental health. There's a reason kids ask 100 silly questions & there are reasons adults do it. CONNECTION, feeling heard & part of the tribe.
I would wager that this forum provides (some people here) with the ONLY social interaction they have on a daily basis. So when you say "Learn to use the search dude" which could be interpreted as "Shut up lazy" how do you think you make them feel?
Lets all try to show love to each other & make people feel welcome. Its free & it makes everyone feel good

I use my well water. I don't pH it. It's about 7.8 with a ppm of around 150.
I like either a bucket and pump or a tub with a longer hose and pump. I also removed the filters in the pumps, so if I do a tea it's like a top dressing at the same time. I also marked the gallons so I know how much is actually in there. The tub is marked too, but you can't see it in the pic.

Groovy reservoir man. Looks like a righteous setup! Appreciate the pics, THX!!! I'm guessing you have the water pump on a timer every few hours ? You don't want to over saturate your soil since you aren't doing DWC right ?

Bottom line.... If all constraints allow, my preference is hydro.
I've done both. Now I do everything soil except for cloning.....sometimes rockwool, rooter plugs, or soil.
My current constraints give me very little room indoors. So i have moms, clone, and early veg space. I flower outdoors.
When I was really trying to learn about growing, I found this site and read about how to DIY hydro. I had the space available, and pretty soon after, I ran all hydro in systems based on the Stinkbud harvest a pound every three weeks thread here...

The growth rate is faster in hydro. I've grown the same clones many times in soil and in the Stinkbud aero/nft system. The hydro system consistently has faster growth rates. Changes in the chemistry of the reservoir have a much faster noticeable effect on the plants (can be good and bad). In an aero system, if a pump fails or something gets clogged, your plants can get messed up very quickly, and you'll want to cry when you come home to a tent or room full of wilted plants. DWC or aero/DWC, flood/drain, other systems that leave the roots in moisture dont have the same problem. There's also the risk that your system will leak water out and damage the floor.
Now that I'm in soil for the past few years, it feels a little lazier. IMHO it is more forgiving. I use kitchen scrap compost mixed into my outdoor soil, and I supplement with salt nutes. I do early veg in FFOF soil. Since my plants finish outdoors, I don't have the option to do hydro right now anyway. I do like to get my hands dirty in the soil, but if I were running the full cycle indoor, I would do hydro. I garden other stuff outdoors too.
As far as the finished flower goes, I liked both ways.
That's just a few things that come to mind. The topic could make for a long thread with a lot of arguing (and I'm sure it already has). If we're going to argue about it more, we should open another thread and fight over there

Appreciate it! Didn't realize hydro grows quicker but I mean I'd rather rotate more often or throw in a couple Autoflowers in between to make up for slower soil growth if it does actually produce better terpenes. If you ever grew a couple clones from the same pheno/mother and did one in soil and one hydro, and dried/cured them under exactly the same conditions; I believe would be the best scientific method for truly testing out if soil has better terpenes or not. Then again you would have to lab test the final products terpene levels if even possible, because they may both be great and super similar. May be a narrow margin if one actually does produce better terpenes. Unless someone has done these tests and replies here there's no way for us to know. They'd also have to do the tests on multiple grows to ensure it's correct and results hold true everytime. Anyways both seem great and not too different in terpenes from what you stated you enjoy both methods' final end products so I guess it's not a big deal on which method to use, probably comes down to preference. I just wonder why my cannabis award cup winning buddy uses soil only...This could make a long argument thread. IMO one big advantage of hydro is no medium. I'm sure others have other opinions, but I don't like to waste medium nor do I want to recycle it. Even getting rid of the soil is annoying in an apartment. Using method like DWC you also get loads of great information about your plant by checking the ph and ec in buckets. IMO that makes growing in dwc easier than soil/coco. You don't need to know how to read the plant as well as in a soil grow. Also if you mess up feeding it much easier to just do a water change than it is to get your soil balanced again.

So it's all up to what extent and complexity you want to go. I like simple myself. I'm a hydro guy btw so I can't really say much except my extent is I have a 50$ maybe whole house (sediment) filter that is hooked up right on my main coming into the house. I buy the better filters for it like charcoal with as small micron as they offer for that filter. They last like 6 months and I get 2 for under 40$. It comes out around 100ppm/ .050ec. I don't let it sit out, I use it straight out of the tap and I've not had any issues with it.
