Oh my god! You guys act like America is the only country where a person can make it. You think capitalism isnt jappening in every country in the world right now? Travel to communist countries and see that they arent communist, they are capitalist with communi being a slogan they use to justify authoritarianism. So Americas capitalism being the thing that makes this country "great" is irrelivant.
And a quick lesson in political philosophy. Capitalism, socialism, communism... They are terms which relate to the redistribution of generated Money and taxes in relation to the tax and money makers. In a capitalist society a person has absolutely no obligation financially to their workers or underlings....think...industrial revolution, charels dickens, another lump o coal for the fire mr? In a socialist society, those recieving their money from the labor of other individuals must redistribute back some money to those who generate it for you.
This is the America we have been living in our whole lives a semi-socialist america. Some of the most important institutions for society in America are inherrantly socialist(that doesnt make it a bad thing) for example, welfare, cash aid, food stamps, 401k, low income assistance,MINIMUM WAGE. ALL SOCIALIST. Without them though, a large percentage of society would become less productive workers. Poor people without medical assistance and medical problems will become less effective contributors to society unless assistance is given. It is more profitable for everyone to make our lowest earners higher earners. There is a reason these institutions were put in place.
You say capitalism is what made america great, I disagree. The world has capitalism yet has varrying degrees of success. I say the thing that makes America great is Americans. Without them, who is the attainment of success in America to fall on then? With that said, its in our best interests to take care of eachother. In a time when there is less and 1 % of the people want to cheat amd extort the other 99% out of everything to attain more than 3 generations of their family name will ever need, something needs to be done. This is not the America they told you about in 2nd grade, the one that cares about its people.... Something is very wrong here.
