Led light comparable to 1000 watt hps??

it's better to use more "efficient" led lighting and heat with another source such as gas than just use HID lighting and benefit from the needed heat.
I guess once one has to spent additional energy/cost to heat up the cold-light setting then the gained efficiency bonus of LED just gets nullified: much more cost in hardware PLUS the cost for the heater, too!

HPS heat is an issue for some but for me, it just helps heat the house and keep the grow room at the perfect temp. Granted heating with electric isnt the most efficient thing in the world but when you know your at least cutting a few bucks off your gas bill, it helps justify the electric bill.
Indeed, and if you're growing inside of your house, well, at least, an indoor place where humans live - you may have increased CO2-levels. If that's the case, your plants should be able to metabolize more light but this also calls for a higher temperature then as well.

Here's a chart I took off a book on plant metabolisms, which depicts the influence temperature has on the photosynthesis-rate:

(they did this differentiation because there are C3 sunplants, and C3 shadeplants)

I was like - so your telling me that propane at $4+ a gallon is an economical way to add heat to the grow space? No thank you.
Propane is slightly more efficient than electric when it comes to BTU output but yeah, were on the same page. Not to mention i only need to get my grow space up to 70-75 while leds need to get up to 80-85 which is going to take a whole lot more btu's especially when its 0 degrees outside.
 
I’m running 50w square foot in flower rooms could I cut to like 35w in the summer when I don’t need the heat from the hps. Use the new Samsung diode’s and get about the same yield is my question.

My standard response to the "best light" question.... the best light is the one that best fits your situation.
Yeah there is so much variation in climate/living situation/# of grows per year/ perpetual vs one grow at a time. A lot of it does boil down to your environment and growing style. Im good with one "big" grow per year. 10-12 weeks in veg, another 12-16 weeks to finish, and then use the tent to dry. Its not the most efficient. Its not the highest yielding. But i dont care. Its what works for me. Im still on the crop before last.... I like at least 6 months of cure.

Ya my old school 600's just keep chugging along... Hanging the light vertically vastly changes heating and cooling issues. I will say over here we're paying 1 dollar per gallon at to outlets that use it as a loss leader to get folks to come to their stores....

I went from 1k hps to 630cmh. The cmh was a great light but it was not a 1k hps. I’m now on my first run with an HLG scorpion. It is most definitely outperforming the cmh and I’m leaning towards saying it will outperform the hps as well. Time will tell.

I guess the moral of the story is that here we are 8 years later and it is still not that simple to state "this led is equal to a 1000W HPS". Especially when considering growth characteristics, plant health, nutrient demands, and cost :peace:

As a hps convert to led, I have used a hps during winter to bring up temps in one of my grow rooms. I will NEVER use hps in the summer/spring again. When it’s time to flower more of my mothers out I’m planning on doing side led lighting and see how much wattage I would need to use to get that hps “penetration” Through the canopy. In my mind I feel like it could possibly take 1k watts. For the range I’m shooting for it already takes 450-480 watts for top canopy coverage... but the good and bad of doing trial experiments with leds is there’s so many different variables with spectrums, diode count, board or strip etc

Maybe why the big companies aren't that involved yet, could you see Philips bothering until the smoke clears, how many unsold and next generation lights would it have had to fuck around with just to get to this point. No it's not worth it until now.
