Led light comparable to 1000 watt hps??

Gavita 1700. Hands down >1000 w hps.
It really does a full 25 sq ft. Some people ive heard are gwttinf 2-2.5gpw.
That’s fucking insane. I would love to see it
If i could keep temps over 80 i would consider running LED. But for me, HID is the only thing that makes sense. Save electric running the light just to have to run an electric heater... no thanks.

I want to make the switch but Hps is all I know. I just upgraded to digital ballast I’m old
Nothing wrong with sticking to what works. I keep seeing LED grows require way more nutrients as well. Save a few bucks in electric, spend a few bucks on nutrients. I view HPS as a "Miniature sun" which in my mind is the perfect thing for a miniature grow.

Says it's for a 4x4 not 5x5, the company have it replacing a 600w or 630wcmh for that size on their site not a 1000w. Hlg make theirs a 5x5 but much prefer the 1700e.

Samsung, who makes the vast majority of diodes for LED grow lights is a "microscopic shit stain" company in your mind? Weird. I like Philips myself, but I don't see them eclipsing Samsung in the LED market any time soon.

"Impressive 1930 µmol/s output for more crop-loving light at up to 20% energy savings vs. 1000 W DE HPS fixtures." Philips 1000w DE throws down 2150 µmol/s @1000W. So the LED puts out 10% less while using 20% less energy... so a savings of 10% energy. Oh I'm so impressed.

Nope. But Leds are not widely used in commercial horticulture. The technology just isnt there yet.
Maybe not where you live but do you also pay up to ~50c for 1kwh?
The above stated Gavita 1700 puts out 2.7umol/J and that's much more than any DE 1000k HPS - and even before reflection-loss. Once your reflector gets old it'll just "eat" ~30% of half of your HID emanated radiation.
LED tech may get ~30% more efficient - which will only further exacerbate the problem with its cold light. Less plant transpiration, less metabolism, less heat conversion in the process of photosynthesis.
Granted, the HID heat radiation may be a drag if it's too warm already.... so it's really dependant on the situation what's best. Or at what usage the high starting cost for LED are justified.....

I believe these specs over what other companies say to replace a HP's with, everyone saying a hlg 600watt replaces a 1000w HP's.

20% seems more realistic.
 
You think if I outfitted my room with multiple cob lights that equal the same watt as a de hps. What would Yeild look like? What if I had 5 spider farm led hoods that draw a true 1000watts would I increase my Yeild? I feel like the LEDs I’ve used make the bud fluffy. I’ve never been able to get the same results mb it’s bc I’ve never had a good led board. Does anyone have experience using that much led watts and have a good idea what Yeild looks like. I’m adding a flower room and want to change it up.its a 6x5 room.

Well, you are looking far too much into wattage when instead you should be looking into ppfd and spectrum functionality. Granted, it's easy to make an initial survey via watts & area - but different lamps have different energy-conversion, and its not even taking the temps into account. So if you wanna know if you can further maximize your yield - via adding light - this can only happen if light wasn't your limiting factor. So depending on what genetic you grow - something accustomed to a brutal midday sun like equatorial sativa - or the northern indica, which compensates their lack of natural light with its big fanleaves - do you arrive at 700-1000umol during flower in all plaes of your grow area? If not - adding more light may help you further out.

The differences of HPS vs LED is that:
- HPS has a FR EOD which sends your plants to sleep right immediately after lights out. Entering dark respiration 90mins sooner than standard white LED.
- HPS light colors have more penetration and are less "stressful" at the top leaves
- LED light drives photosynthesis very efficient but one can go overboard with that quickly, and that "too much light" at the top leaves can be a drag - as in the plant needs to do a lot of repair to compensate. (exclude the Samsung lm301h ONE diode - but basically any diode which focuses on primarily blue & red colors has very low penetration abilities....)

And when I talk about "penetration" I mean stuff like transmittance, deflection/reflection/, fluorescence, the sieve & detour effect - basically anything that adds to the ambient light, which also known as "greenlight" or "shadelight" in photobiology.

From what i hear, LED's make the plants very hungry so its much harder to keep correct nutrient levels. And you need to be in the 80-85 degree range. LED's shine straight down while an HPS with a reflector bounces light all over and reflective walls help get light to all parts of the plant, not just the tops. If you are growing multiple strains that end up with pretty large differences in final height, its much harder to get an LED board at that "optimal height". HPS heat is an issue for some but for me, it just helps heat the house and keep the grow room at the perfect temp. Granted heating with electric isnt the most efficient thing in the world but when you know your at least cutting a few bucks off your gas bill, it helps justify the electric bill.

You are soo on point brother. I had one person try to convince me that it's better to use more "efficient" led lighting and heat with another source such as gas than just use HID lighting and benefit from the needed heat. I was like - so your telling me that propane at $4+ a gallon is an economical way to add heat to the grow space? No thank you.
