I think if noobs didn't post so much nonsense about "how to grow best" on the internet, the growers who do give a fuck about wanting to learn, will actually learn good info. I think that when we have noobs recommending dumb stuff like 30% rh in veg, and you have other noobs listening to this advice, it does actually cause the learning curve to become weaker. Of course you get self-validation, so you may feel stronger, but that's only a mirage.
I dont recommend 30%. But i also wouldnt spend to much time or money getting it higher than that.

What do you think Phillips is going to do that isn't already capable with top bin osram, nichia, cree, blux, samie,etc diodes? Nothing left that's revolutionary in terms of design spread/output imo

Those magnum plus things look like turds...

600w of hlg lighting will replace 1k hps but then you'll need a 1k heater running to keep wm warm
I was told this when HLG first started putting out QB 288's - bought 4 of them and did a direct replacement of my 1k HPS. I did 2 runs and put the 1k back in. I would say its closer to 800 watts to replace a 1k HPS. Where it fell short for me was coverage in my 5x5. I know some people say that a 1k is more for a 4x4 but it did an amazing job in my 5x5 tent

Oh i enjoy. The price on them new is insane but they can usually be found on craigslist in excellent condition for 100$ or less. Height was a big issue when i first got it. The old 79'' tall tent and using the hangers it came with didnt leave a lot of room for the plants. Now ive got an 84'' tent and the light is all the way to the ceiling so its up an extra 9-10 inches which makes a huge difference. I can stand up in the tent now. In early veg i can just plop the plants on top of 5 gallon buckets to get them a more correct distance from the light and i dont have to bend over to train/water.

I Agree. 4 288s are not quite enough. I used 6 and it smashed it. Thats 2 slate triple heat sinks.

This is the current set up. I use a cmh to help with cold. And 4 qb 96 elites. Pic is in week 5.

The slate triples are now in my other tent.

Edit... im running the 6 boards at 70w a piece... so its like 420w for a 5x5.... you need the extra heat though

A lot of that depends on what kind of hood your using. Some of them have really small footprints- only good for a 4x4 because you cant get them up high enough to spread the light out. A bigass parabolic hood is perfect for a 5x5. crank that fucker to 1150w and letter rip. Or the SunSystem Magnum XXXXXXXXL hoods are good to. But I personally like my SunSystem air cooled double ended hood; but it does need to be up very high. About 36'' from the canopy seems like the sweet spot to get a semi-decent spread through the whole tent.

I'm running a 8inch air-cooled Yield Master from Sunsystem. The spread was great in my 5x5. I did always keep it as far up as possible.

Yeah, I had already dropped $500 on the QB's and wasn't going to spend another 250 to be running 800 watts VS 1000. In my situation it ended up being more difficult to cool the tent with the LED's Vs. an air-cooled hood. 800 watts of LED creates a lot of heat EVERYWHERE inside the tent. I'll probably put those boards back up in my current setup as a supplemental.

Everyone says "CMH; less heat, easier to cool". Bullshit. Ballast is in the tent. Bulb is not being cooled directly. Harder to cool.

It does create less heat for the light it provides and my CMH ballast was remote when I was in tents. now I'm in a 10x12 tuff shed I don't give a fuck about heat. just crank up the 8inch inline and blow it outside done and done. I get what you are saying tho. I'll quit growing before I grow in tents again.

My tents were in my house so I had to run carbon filters and controlling the environment was a pain in the ass not to mention trying to get access to the plants. now I have a flower area that I can fully walk around. Being in a legal state with both neighbors growing also helps when you don't have security concerns .

I like having them inside. I have a full bedroom for growing and plenty of room to work in there. The plants keep the air so fresh. Soak up all the co2. For me the environment is very easy to control during winter. But the best way to grow is the way that works best for you.

Agreed. The Winter is easy, the lights do all the heating work for me. I always struggled keeping temp and humidity in check inside the house because it was constantly flucuating. I heat with wood so there is no such thing as a constant temp and we don't run A/C in the summer so it is hot during the day then cool at night. I haven't done a full run in my shed during the summer months. We shall see how it works out. We don't get super hot or humid here so it might manageable with just exhaust and running lights at night.

Very humid here. I think that would be my biggest battle.

A lot of me on this thread was saying that it takes 800w led to make a 1000w HPs replacement..

Many companies have pushed their 600w as 5x5 and been caught short. What tripped me was gavitas 5x5 which at 780w seems more truthful.

I agree. I think the only way to get away with running 600watts is by having 6+ boards so you can get the coverage and really only in a tent situation where you have reflective walls all the way around in the exact 5x5 area

Even then you might have a nice canopy but it likely wont be a deep canopy.
