Kandy Kush Waterfarm 400watt Hps

Thanks guys! Im excited now, she looks even more badass every day!

I also got out my trim I've been curing since the critical harvest last night- super nice creamy smoke. but must save it for kandys trim and then just keep all the trim from my next 2-3 grows, cure it and then make a huge lump of hash!

Lovely grow...............
Got some questions as a 1st time scrogger with single WF:
I'm growing Tangerine Dream, a Sativa Dom, that purportedly stretches 3x-plus when shifted into flower (untrained)....I have approx 49" of headroom above my screen to top of cab. max, minus depth of light fixture & hangers which leaves more like 39"
I need about 15" to 17" clearance from my light (600 watts), so that leaves me with 20" to 24" of real headroom.
Every grow I've followed on this strain shows multiple tall colas and a lot of "Out Of Control" comments about her stretch..
Any suggestions as to what % of my screen should be filled before the flip with a reported stretch like that?
My head says 75 to 80% fill before flip and, in truth, I really don't know.......
I topped her before transplanting to Waterfarm as well as super cropped when she took off...now at approx 40% fill of a 2-1/2' x 3-1/2' scrog screen.
Would definitely like to hear some "experienced" suggestions.
flip it now. you have a nice big screen but she is still going to stretch and you want the space to work with. I dont know the strain in terms of growing but sativas tend to be more leggy . I tend to flip when she hits the screen. I have allowed my Kandy the room to grow. If you have loads of budsites then I cant stress enough how much of a ball ache it can become. when i snapped the branch on this one I stopped weaving and let her grow up. I was worried that I would have to tie her down from above but she stopped at about 15" taller than the scrog. I like that she is about 15" above the scrog because my colas are going to enormous and I still have juust enough space to raise my light if I absolutely have to , I wasn't so easy going with my critical plant and had millions of budsites but they wern't huge colas. I think try to space her out a bit more and its best to let there be very slightly fewer bud sites and give that girl the space she needs. d you have pics of your cab? I can help a lot better if I can see whats going on. out of curiosity what is the genetics of tangerine dream?

also where you can, dont weave- pull the budsite out of the scrog and move it along to the spot you want it, as long as you can make the flower face up it will grow into its spot, I warn you though do this fast as once she starts flowering the stem and branches solidify a fair amount quite quick- that's how I ended up snapping a branch- which healed real fast and the plant didn't seem to mind but it taught me a valuable lesson! watch vids on youtube about scrogging, but you will find a way that works for you

Thanks for the rapid response, I'll have to check out the You Tube Videos on scrog, been so busy reading & researching my particular strain, I forgot about that source.
I am under the impression that with ScROG, if done correctly, it will encourage many more mature bud sites that result in shorter cola like structure with the even canopy potential.
So, how much weaving did you actually do with your grow? (weaving, in my definition is pulling back under & repositioning, not weaving over & under the wire of the ScROG screen)
I ask this, as I am also under the impression that the more I fill my screen, the smaller, but more bud sites/colas I'll have, and at the flip, all the plants juice will go into pumping these bud sites, rather than continued stretching/lengthening of over all height, were she grown vertical or under the screen.

This concept, from what you advise, may be pure conjecture on my part.
I would also want to revise my fill estimate downwards to more like 25 to 30% (I counted bud sites vs unfilled screen holes), so I have some time.
Tangerine Dream is a Barney's Farm selection, a cross between G13 & Neville's A5 Haze, then crossed again with G13.

yes absolutely that's what a scrog does- more budsites . My last grow was loads of sites but my buds were smaller as you say- they were beautiful, this grow now has loads more budsites than it would but I've let them grow taller so I get loads of big buds. yes you are right- reassign the budsites rather than weaving. some end up weaved though. its no a bad thing just try to avoid it if you can. definetly be quite brutal in your pruning as well. I have cut back any unnecesary growth or budsites that will never get enough light- you want the plant focusing solely on buds. keep fan leaves above the screen but if they are blocking a promsing bud then snip em off. Obviously though the plant likes to take its nutes from the leaves towards the end so dont go too wild- I am pulling off a LOT of leaves every day- sometimes I wonder how the hell I managed to get all those leaves off when the plant STILL looks really full and fat and very happy. You are going to have a lot of fun with the scrog- its such a wicked way to grow! waterfarm scrog plants are really impressive- I thought it might take away from the potency and flavour making a plant grow that big- but not at all. sounds like a lush strain you have there. are you gong to make a grow diary? I'd like to see what you are up to- its good to get as much waterfarm stuff out there for people to see as possible! :D

Good information, I know I am going have to overcome my resistance to removing fan leaves, and from what you are describing I may be in for a shock as to how much I need to remove to keep every thing happy up top.
I have not yet started to prune under the screen, but expect to take some cuts soon.
I may be closer to the flip than I originally thought....I have been advised by anther Journal-er who is working with this strain to flip sooner than later based on his experience of stretch.
If I can figure out how to attach an image to a post, I will include with your permission.
Once on 12/12 (and after initial 2 week stretch) do you continue to attempt to maintain evenness of canopy, or just let it go, with the exception of removing fan leaves blocking light?

Yeah I'd flip her asap too! I try to make sure they arent blocking each other, basically keep weaving until you are happy with the distribution and then let her go wild! with a tweak here and there of course! I try to just make sure theres plenty of oxygen flowing around and the plant seems happy. if you want to post pics then click the square next to the round blue thing with a chain underneath it next to the font types. does that make sense? I hope so I want to see your baby! :)

oooh healthy pretty lady! definetly flip her now or you wont be able to fit it all in the screen!
Thanks for taking the time to give me some input & good advice.
If my scrog comes even close to yours, I'll be ecstatic.
I'm looking forward to following the rest of your grow.

ooh just got given 2 600w lamps w/ ballast and big fan for cheapo cheapo! safe! If I can pull it off I might swap my 400w for a 600w in time for lights on tomorrow and give her an upgrade for the last bit. If I do I will do the photo game massively and show my new equipment etc. I is an excited otter now! :D

Make sure you have the headroom, a 600 is hotter than a 400 and you don't want to cook those girls.
I don't know what you got for cooling & ventilation, but I have a 600 in a 4 X 4 and need to watch my temps & lamp height.
I am throttled by a 4" in line fan.
However, if your running 6" all the way through, I imagine you'll be fine. I would keep a close eye on it and look out for light bleaching, a few inches can make a big difference.
With that said, I'm the 1st to jump where others (often wiser ) hesitate.
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice, really helpful.
I have been looking at it all and while I thnk I do have the space because the lights are inside cooling tubes I am concerned I will dislodge too much dust from above if i start messing around with my set up now- my extractor fan is really powerful and I have some blackout fabric in front of it in the cupboard and the fabric is dusty as fuck now in the pattern of the doors so I think best not be moving anything. I am also already having a few probs with temp and humidity atm so yeah, I think now the excitement is less and my sensible brain is back on I will wait till the Mohan or the cream caramel goes in to that cab for flowering.

That sounds like a wise move....you are so far along in the game, it would be a shame to introduce a new variable that potentially could work against you.
But what a score. two 600 watt-ers with ballasts....good for you. My own experience with fixture/lamp upgrade to 600 watts went south when 1 week after installing and everything looking good, one morning the lamp failed to light, and only after two new lamp (bulb) replacements (which would work for a day or two), I discovered the ballast would fire a MH just fine, but increasingly would not fire an HPS, and this light disruption caused some of my girls to hemi. So you may want to verify that they work as expected before the fact.
But that's my luck and not necessarily yours.
And all the above, does not stop me when I'm on a tear.
I took your advice and flipped into 12/12, but only after completely dismantling my scrog......yes, pulling the screen, pulling the plants, cleaning and installing a wall to wall screen, then re-weaving. I am happy to report that everyone (currently 3 different girls-- possibly just 2 in the end) look fine in spite of the trauma I put them through. I don't recommend this for the faint of heart and made the change due to concerns of running out of screen and potential height/heat problems.
Looking forward to seeing your latest pics and what you have next on deck sounds real yummy.

Well well me hearties, Kandy is a fully fledged badgirl! she's got about 4 weeks left and is hench as fuck. every day those huge budsites are joining up and fattening out, a lot of what would traditionally be called 'popcorn' may actually turn out quite large to. She's a big girl!
I was going to do a flush today and give her all fresh nutes until Badger called out to me that he had just finished the 'bloom' bastard bastard with your earlier light times! Thankfully she has just been drinking mostly water and didn't need nutes today but now I have to go to my local hydro shop where all the chavs and yardies watch who goes in and out of, my favorite game! least theres not pigs there too!

@dishinit Im really glad I didnt do the swap to 600's now actually. After reading about your poor girls herming I couldnt face the idea of that at this point! Glad you flipped now man, also thats very organised of you to completely clean and rearrange your scrog- your plants will appreciate it believe me! And trust me you are going to have trouble finding space for your girls but I think having looked at your pic that you will have an amazing yield. feel free to post pics for me, I love seeing how other people are getting on- its a wicked community with so much we can learn from each other, shame its so underground I really think a lot of people would benefit from the pleasure you get from growing.

@ultramegamj its hard, but i wish i could go away for a couple of days and then see how fat she got over that time, every day you do see development but damn it looks mental when you aint seen it for a couple!

right, enough rambling and down to the good stuff:

Damn Girl, those ladies are dancing. In fact that was definitely the visual impression I immediately had when looking at your group shots.
They are celebrating life................ Got to just love em...................And ewee, those crystal-y closeups, makes an old man young again........
And talk about yield, don't be modest. Those Bud Sites/Colas look to stand a foot above your screen. I lost count after 25..........Humbling.
Just a couple questions;
When looking at your side shot showing Colas & Popcorn, is this a time to judiciously remove some fan leaves above the screen that may be shading some of the Popcorn? Or do you leave well enough alone? I ask as I tend to over-fuss as I am learning a new methodology.
When reading your reply to ultramegamj, I was reminded of something I am experimenting with to visually track growth. I try to take one similar photo each sequence of shots, spaced at least two to three days apart (or more after the stretch), then select those and put them together in a slide show. Which of course allows me to indulge my ego to my hearts extent..................Nothing like giving yourself a stroke or two..............and perhaps I also might learn something in the process.
And you are right about my own efforts, My TD mow overshadows the two other girls I have going, & I am planning to, gulp........only if I have to...........Sacrifice one of them to the Gods (I hope not both).
The only downside I see to this single plant scrog thingy...... is me.....I tend to screw up somewhere in the process and commit some heinous newbie mistake.........makes me nervous to think I am putting all my eggs in one basket. However, on the other hand, it looks to potentially be, a very full & delicious basket, and maybe the fact that I am more focused on one, rather than many, will prove to be a positive experience.
I'll post a pic in a bit, mine is just green, Yours are golden......................
