Just a heads up to shroom growers.

So i tryed my hand at growing shrooms the other day. I was doing the pf tek cake way. I boiled them for 90 minutes and then inoculated after they cooled for 20 mins. BIG MISTAKE, i didnt know that they needed to sit for at least 4 hours. I only waited 20 mins till i could handle them. Just cause you can handle them doesnt mean the inside subsrate is cool enough. Im pretty sure i killed my 10 CCs of cambodian spores.

Just a heads up.

I never wait very long two three hours but I set them infront of a fan and under an air vent.

Oh darn... yes sir you must at least wait 6-8 hours for them to cool to room temperature... otherwise the fragile spores fry! Ah well, try again brotha ;)

maybe yours does... I have a special one just for shrooms, or did it broke now I have to wait just like every one else, even if you chose to put them in the fridge, you need to make sure the glass is room temp or they will crack. you can set your pressure cooker on ice also.

Yea i went for the same strain, Cambodian. I liked the description, about being a fast colonizer and very potent with good visuals. I also liked how it has reviews

Hey , nothing wrong with the Cambo's ....and Golden Teachers..
those exotics...are harder to work ...get some experience under your shroom belt first IMO...we all learned by our mistakes....and always...keep on shroomin'....

The diff. strains only depict size, shape, color, colonizing speed, stability, and yield. Cubes are cubes although the name could change the trip if you believed what the strain description said due to the fact that your buzz will have to do with how you feel about it. I have heard many good things about some albino, and penis envy strains though...............so not exactly sure on the later

Meh, 6 to 8 hours seems a little much. I innoculated some jars last week, only waited about 90 minutes after sterilizing the jars to innoculate and they are doing fine right now. I didn't do the pressure cooker method though I just steamed them. Not sure if they get a lot hotter in a Pressure cooker. I'm doing B+ since this is my first grow and I hear this is a pretty easy strain. I got some penis envy syringes I'm gonna try for my next batch.

Hey, I see you're having some probs with the PF Tek. 90 minutes on the stove is fine, as long as you have enough water in the pot you're sterilizing them in. Let them cool overnight, trust me. You can say 6-8 hours is too long, but do you want to do it right? It doesn't take much to kill mushroom spores when it comes to heat.

If you could look at my grow journals, you'd see I have several PF and casing examples with B+, Cams, Amazon, etc strains. In all the PF cakes I've ever made, I never had a problem when I waited at least 8 hours for the jars to completely cool, and I've been using it since 1997.

I been boomin quite a while and I have learned an important lesson. It takes weeks for the colinization process to fully happen, then another couple weeks to spawn, then days to pin and days to flush, so why are so many people in a hurry to cool down their PC's? First off, the PC is a great place for your jars to cool, it has just been sterilized! Second, placing a large warm object in your fridge causes it to work constantly and the cooling pumps are likely to fail if this is done over and over. I noticed earlier in the thread you said your fridge had failed, this is likely the cause. Instead of "putting your PC on ice" or blowing fans on it, just budget your time better so that you are cooking in the evening, jars cool over night, and you innoculate the NEXT DAY, this will guarentee you have no spore cooking problems! Patience is everything with boomers, otherwise you will work very hard for nothing! Good luck and feel free to shoot me any questions you may have...Here is a picture of my current penis envy casings, you have to grow PE to know what is going on here, but these are the tell tale tufts that build up on the casing layer prior to PE pinning...PE is a bitch to pin, it takes two to three times longer than a normal cube like B+!
