I don't know if anyone else knows this yet but they pulled all of the workers from the nuclear plant. Apparently all three reactors are in full meltdown. Shit just got a hell of a lot worse.

Thanks.. Switching from youtube to news..

My heart goes out to the people of this world.
What a thin line between prosperity and ruin we all walk.

The shut down reactor number 4 has had a fire or explosion and the spent nuclear fuel there could be burning even though the reactor had been shut down before the earthquake.

I hear that!
The real fallout/tsunami is the wave of propaganda being crapped out...

just to recap here....80-120 rads - You have a 10% chance of vomiting and experiencing nausea for a few days
130 -170 rads - You have a 25% chance of vomiting and contracting other symptoms
180-220 rads - You have a 50% chance of vomiting and having other severe physical effects
270 More..-330 rads - 20% chance of death in 6 weeks, or you will recover in a few months.
400-500 rads - 50% chance of death
550-750 rads - Nausea within a few hours ; no survivors
1000 rads - immediate incapacitation and death within a week or less.
...that chart is just to stir up crazies...we don't even USE rads anymore!
Look...
Even in the event of a significant release from the reactor, radiation would be diluted before reaching our states and levels would be so low no protective action would be necessary.
this is NOT chernobyl nor three mile island...the Japanese are not so foolish as not to have learned from such examples...they are doing everything by the book.

why not wait until the ten day sea flush finishes first (yes, it really takes that long) before we all run panicking for the hills?

Oh shit...... burning rods in a meltdown confirmed, containment core has been breached and it is spewing radiation into the environment. Anyone within 19 miles that has not evacuated has been ordered to stay inside. No one is coming for them...

where did the link go?

if true that means everyone gets windmills i bet

EDIT:

...upon further proddings it seems todays fiery blast damaged the reactor's suppression chamber, a water-filled tube at the bottom of the container that surrounds the nuclear core...the core however, remains intact, though this is pure speculation at the moment since the suppression chamber shares a wall with the containment vessel.

gosh...i sure hope they got around to shooting some boron/ boric acid in there

i was aghast about the whole stay inside thing, when most the peeps only have foundations left...
little hard to keep air tight...

you want to wait ten days?? at what rate is radiation being leaked into the atmosphere?? this stuff takes thousands of years to degrade. no joke. even spent nuclear fuel stays radio active long enough that we have to bury it several km deep into desolate mountainscapes....

but no, let's wait while they 'do everything by the book'... yeah, just put duck-tape on the windows..... it'll be fine....

Won't the particles settle on crops and fall into the water?

Also won't this effect the Cannabis crop?

People may need to buy Geiger counters to test weed or take chances of smoking radio active stuff that could cause cancer.

How many growers here test their fertilizers and produce for radiation?

Do you want to tell that to the Japanese people that just heard their Prime Minister apologize for allowing radiation to spew into the air? The reactor was shut down before the tsunami/earthquake struck. The spent rods were removed from the containment vessel and placed in storage, in the same building. those rods are now on fire and they are spewing radiation into the atmosphere....

Just when you think you know it all, bam, something comes along to kick ya in the teeth...

These same not so foolish people had back up generators for nuclear power coolant pumps at SEA LEVEL...

nobody WANTS to wait ten days in a society based on instant gratification in all things, no....but wait we must...
so sad

The world figures of current radiation leakage broken down by continent, country, province, and so forth are far to great to be contained within my posts character limits...so i will omit them
However, i do believe you would not sleep comfortably if you actually KNEW what you were exposed to on a daily basis anyway.
best to leave that alone...

there are 3 different half-lifes when dealing with radioactive decay...this can last from microseconds to millions of years...there is no doubt.
which one are you referring too, and which isotopes are giving you the greatest concern?

and no...we don't NEED to bury them anywhere...we currently have technology that can reduce that kind of slag into a stable brick of glass...
but you know....the people we put in charge don't like that kind of thing...so we aren't using it
go figure, huh?

yes. i prefer they do it by the book....there's a reason the book is there.
Remember BP? Yeah...that book gathered quite a bit of dust, didn't it?

as for the prime minister apologizing....let's see your elected officials do the same without trying to spread the blame around
my tiny acorn hat's off to him

yep...standard protocol storing spent rods...
was i the only one that noticed way back in the beginning of all this the officials out there said the Cesium levels were to high meaning the rods were already burning away?

and no they were not at sea level...they were however, to low to cope with a 33 foot tall tsunami...
poor form Japan, you should have know better.
This is a good stance to take when it isn't your pale pink ass on the line....i agree

33 feet? Where in the hell do you get that figure? The damn plant is right there on the coast and never went under water.

I was merely pointing out that your remark about the Japanese having everything under control was pure BS.... mere speculation on your part... yep, it's under control alright...

Tobacco ash? Tobacco is grown with radio active fertilizers I understand.
The fire place?

Interesting. A good Geiger Counter is not too expensive.. The warning is to spend for a good one since cheep ones may not be very accurate.

seeing as we have nothing but speculations to draw upon i fail to see your reasoning.
the japanese have said from the start they were pretty sure they already had a partial meltdown, bad stuff was gonna be "spewing" out given the best case scenario.
they even apologized...for not having control of it.

obviously they are approaching the worst case scenario...they have said as much

problem is how the spin doctors tend to uh.....what's the polite way to say it?
they spin stuff....for ratings.
don't play coy now.

we don't have any idea what the hell is going on out there...i for some reason have a soft spot for the japanese, sure.
Hell of a lot more faith in them than my own country...yeah, i know how sad that is too.

O__o

we must wait....lolz

This whole thing is sad and unfortunate. It is already hitting home with some shops and restaurants concerned about product imports and closing =(

Look, everybody needs to chill. There isn't going to be mass amounts of fallout from this. In fact, it will probably have a nominal effect on normal background radiation levels. Here's a fun fact for everybody. We are surrounded by radioactive decay. Our bodies are giving off radiation. The walls in your house give off radiation. The sun gives off a shitload of radiation! Anybody who has granite counter tops is absorbing a good bit of radiation. Every single day we are bombarded by ionizing radiation. We don't really even know if much radioactivity has been spewed into the air. That's the only way you have radioactive fallout. Even if these reactors were to blow up Chernobyl style, the radioactivity would be so dilluted by the time it gets to the U.S. that there would be nothing to worry about. :leaf:

To redivider. What would you have them do? You can't just stop a nuclear reaction. It takes time and is very difficult to do. This isn't like a coal plant where you just stop putting coal in the boiler and voila! No more fire! A nuclear reactor is a different animal all together. It's easy to sit in front of a computer and criticize people who are most certainly putting their lives at risk to try to contain this. There is no reason to be alarmist. Yes, this is a bad situation but there's nothing that can be done that's not already being done. Some people are going to get sick and some may even die. It's a horrible thing but it's done. Too late to unring that bell.:-(
