Is McCain a rascist??

Yeah, its really sad... we have to choose between a fake democrat, a fake republican, and a fake libertarian.

Oh, don't EVEN get me started on Bob Barr.
It must be planned that way. I mean, after all ... in a country with a population of 300,000,000+ surely there are more who are qualified than these three.

Sure, but they usually have an idea of what running for ANY political seat is like. Even for the lowliest elected position, people can be brutal. Been there, done that, NEVER again. Never again.
(Yes, I ran for a local seat a little over ten years ago. O, what a lesson that was. :|)

I won't give out too many details because that would make me far too easy to find.

I ran as a Libertarian, it was for a local seat that had opened up due to a retirement. I thought I might be able to do something more for my community, as I'd just helped another community group pass a city initiative to purchase a large piece of land for the city to keep as greenway in perpetuity. I didn't realize what I was stepping into, though, and didn't really understand what the position would entail.

However, THAT wasn't the problem. The problem was the harassing phone calls I received at home asking me how I had the nerve to cost the city money by forcing an election. The problem was people, neighbors, accusing me of being immoral and an idiot for thinking I had ANY business trying to do what I was trying to do (simply run for an opened seat). People were pretty pissed off, the nerve of me! And boy, did they take every opportunity to let me know. Then came the phone call, while I was still recovering from being bitten by a rattlesnake, to do a roundtable interview with the other "candidate" at a local paper. That actually wasn't too bad, but I saw that I'd bitten off more than I could chew and received ZERO support from my party leaders who'd been the ones to encourage me to run in the first place. At least my opponent was a kind and classy gentleman. He called to congratulate me on running in the first place, he was aware of what people were doing to me and he felt that, while not qualified, at least I had moxie.

The thing to be remembered is that people can get really hot under the collar when it comes to politics, EVEN LOCAL POLITICS. They can be cruel, not fun when you have young kids. They know no boundaries. And there is the press. There wasn't much to know about me, but to learn on a fundamental level how easily my highly prized privacy was violated disturbed me deeply.

Wow, you were actually snakebit???
Well, I did have it by the tail. Mojave green, just a baby. It was GORGEOUS. Wanna see a picture?

I have also been; Bitten by a small moray eel (Hawaiian species), nipped by a ray, stung by a lionfish, stung by a wasp-fish, bitten by triggerfishes, last time I was chumming off the back of the dive boat in Puerto Rico and got doinked on my leg, kicked in that same leg by a horse (still dented, happened when I was 17), and... honestly, I've probably forgotten a lot of my encounters. Wanna know which snakes have the most painful bite? Large constricors. I've been zapped so often I actually like the tingling feeling, too.

i hear tell a rattlesnake bite can haunt you for years.
It can. The finger where I got nailed has never been right. I had to switch to those floss harp thingies because I couldn't hold the floss right. I also lost my sense of smell for a little over 6 months.

Naw. It actually didn't hurt that much, not even as bad as when I stick myself sewing. Of course, that was before the venom hit. Mojave greens use different types of venoms than most other rattlers, so it fucks you up differently. Still most painful snake bite I've ever experienced was from a rosy boa. FUCK that hurt, it ached so bad, I needed help to get it off my hand (wild caught, sick snake, very cranky).

I avoid all things with venom, end of story for me.
I find myself too fascinated to resist. 8) So, now people will understand why I LOVE this avatar so much. My name actually means mermaid, or "of the sea" (it also means boat dock  ), and having been through what I have, the snake tail just felt so right. And here the artist who made it had no idea.

It seems that you must have gotten a venomless bite, or one of little venom. Mojave greens have the more lethal venom of all rattlers. Sometimes a snake will choose to not inject a full dose or none at all. This may have been the case with your bite:
The often mis-named "Mojave Green" has the most potent venom of any rattlesnake in North America. Its poison is about 16 times more powerful than that of the Sidewinder
The Mojave rattlesnake is the most dangerous of rattlesnakes in the Mojave Desert. Its venom, which it uses to immobilized its prey and defend itself, attack both the nervous system with nuerotoxins and the bloodstream with hemotoxins.

It was not without venom, it was a baby (it only had its very first rattle bud, which may have been part of why I didn't feel that the animal was very distressed), but neither did it pump me full. I was definitely envenomed, though. Did you know that, apparently, they're known to chase people? The nurses kept asking me if I was drunk, I was not. It was an amazingly beautiful green snake in the middle of the desert, and having handled rattlers since I was in high school, I felt it was calm enough to handle. And, it was. Then I got too relaxed, let his tail down just a little (just enough!) and he said LEMMEGONOW! and I said OK OH SHIT.

It was a truly gorgeous little snake. :D Its name, Mojave green, is absolutely not a misnomer. There are also Mojave reds, which I have not yet seen.

I have spent many of day and night in the central Az. desert, seen plenty of rattlers, no greens, mostly orange and black. I always kept my distance. While under the influence of Peyote, you can tell when a rattlesnake is within about 50 ft from you, they have a chilling vibe. I could walk right up to them, but I always respected them and never tried handling them. While hiking under the peyote influence, I would get the vibe and stop, look around and spot the critter, then advance. When you are 20 miles from the nearest town and on foot, it would almost certainly be a death sentence to get bit by one. Peyote gives you exceptional insight and energy, even some paranormal activities. while resting in a thicket in Sycamore Canyon In the middle of the night, I had a bobcat snatch a bird out of a nest right above my head.

I was far more than 20 miles from town (even farther from the hospital), it was better than two hours before I got my first dose of Cro-Fab.

Yet, here I am. :blsmoke:

Rattlers can be handled, but you have to know what you're doing and you have to know how to read the snakes.

Obviously you didn't. Have you ever heard of "let sleeping dogs lie", well unless you're a herpetologist, I'd assume the same could be said of snakes. I respect them and would never hurt one unless it was necessary to protect my loved ones, or some circumstance I couldn't avoid. IE running over one on the highway. I hope you're not going to tell me now you're a herpetologist.
