Is McCain a rascist??

I think this article smells of yellow journalism. George Wallace was not a racist. He was a segregationist and that was very different. He almost was killed when he was sixteen, for helping to defend a young black man who was attacked by several white racists. Furthermore, two of Wallace's black friends were his pallbearers. People who bother to learn about this man know he was not a racist.

So once again med, you introduce tangential misinformation to demagog for your position because the truth is not enough to gain the support of others.

He voted against spending taxpayer funds on it. That doesn't mean that he has a problem with paying tribute to someone like Rosa Parks (I was going to shorten her to RP, but then realized...).

Exactly right. It's usually best to dig a bit deeper for the facts.

Same thing with people who say since just over 90 percent of the black votes are for Obama it must be based on skin color. Disregarding the fact that 88 percent of the black vote went to a white democratic candidate in the 2004 Presidential election.

OMG... George Wallace is the definition of racist bigot.

with quotes like;

"Do you want the black block electing your governor?"

"Wake Up Alabama! Blacks vow to take over Alabama."

"Seymore, you know why I lost that governor's race?... I was outniggered by John Patterson. And I'll tell you here and now, I will never be outniggered again."

How is that not racist?

Black people are "told" to vote for Democrats. And a lot of black people are in fact voting for Obama because hes young, black, handsome, from Chicago, and says CHANGE and HOPE a lot.

in my book a segregationist is the definition of racist. hell, look up the definition. "one that advocates or practices racial segregation." well, if you don't want a certain race around, then you're obviously prejudiced against that race. unless of course, you're allergic to them....

I disagree with your reason on the black part having to do with it unless I'm missing your point. I believe you're going to have a small percentage of people of all races who vote based on race. Blacks have traditionaly voted democrat.
2000 Gore and 2004 Kerry received close to 90 percent of the black vote.
Clinton the mid 80's percentage wise. While Mondale and Dukakis were close to 90 percent. I see no reason Obama would do worse than that in 2008 if he looked like Gore.

It was the Secret Service protective detail that ejected the three local reporters from the area reserved for the National Press Corp trailing the campaign. One reporter knew somebody in the McCain campaign who vouched for him. The black reporter did not. I don't know the details of the third reporter.

Obama banned headscarf wearing Muslim women from sitting behind him at a campaign rally. Is Barak Hussein Obama a xenophobe?

The title of this thread betrays a growing sense of desperation. Maybe the inevitable is not so inevitable after all.

Like i said, blacks are "told" to vote democrat. Whens the last time you witnessed a side by side comparison of candidates on BET? You only get one view, and thats the democratic view. Now im not saying vote for McCain, Im just saying, blacks are "told" through tv, radio, and whatever other forms of media, to get out and vote, but vote democrat.

Obama being black isnt why most people are voting for him, but there is a substantial amount of people who are voting for him because he screams CHANGE, HOPE, hes young, attractive, and when it comes down to it, hes black. *shrugs* Its just the truth.

It must be planned that way. I mean, after all ... in a country with a population of 300,000,000+ surely there are more who are qualified than these three.

now don't be silly, you know perfectly well that being qualified for the job has nothing to do with being chosen as a candidate. if it did, these two would never have gotten out of the starting gate. two senators, one still wet behind the ears and the other barely breathing. neither one with the slightest grasp of the concept of fiscal responsibility, c'mon now.

Those are inflammatory statements today and were probably on the edge back in 1965. But, in the standards of the deep south at the time they were spoken, George Wallace was a moderate. Libraries are full of these sorts of examples. Read what Mark Twain, Abe Lincoln, and Lyndon Johnson said and wrote. They were very liberal men, but by todays standards they would be called racist bigots.

I suggest you also evaluate the actions of the man before you decide if he was a bigot. Because his words are not enough. Especially when under the focus of todays "politicly correct" standards.

Fuck political correctness. Those words back then and even today are hurtful. Abe Lincoln didnt give a damn about the slaves, its widely documented... Lyndon Johnson shouldnt even be considered American after the shit hes done while in office.

I actually like Mark Twain. :]

I wrote a reply to you, but the server lost it. Damn computers...

Anyway, your statements are indicative of the mood in 1965. I was 10 at that time and remember what it was like. But, in Alabama, at that time, George Wallace was viewed as a moderate, not a racist.

Mark Twain, Abe Lincoln, Harry Truman, and Lyndon Johnson all made similar statements in their times. But, each man was considered a liberal and progressive. So historically, you must also judge a man's actions. Because statements change in value based on how they were quoted and when the statement was made.

Anyway, somehow linking John Mc Cain to George Wallace is inflammatory and yellow journalism. Because today, most people think Governor Wallace was a bigot.
