technological advancement has less to do with religion and spirituality, as it has to do with the environment which said civilization is in. the reason that europeans enslaved africans as opposed to vice-versa is mainly because of early europeans need to survive in harsher climates than africa. neccesity breeds innovation. innovation leads to technological advancement (farming, shipbuilding, medicine, architecture, etc.) technological advancement leads to higher levels of civilization, so on and so forth. so if anything "god" is a by-product of human innovation. not the other way around. theres a couple books by a guy named Jared Diamond; "Guns, Germs, and Steel", and"Collapse". interesting reads.
Just finished watching the tv series on the book, found some youtube links, may have missed some of the finer points the book would have covered but none the less a very interesting documentary, thanks for the heads up on it.
Realy makes me think how irrelevant human kind is in the grand scheme of things when Geography could and did dictate our physical and technological evolution.

Yeah, and then you think about all this astrological knowledge that has been lost from past civilizations which were just as intelligent as modern forms just in a way not requiring letters and numbers.

Shut Up And Vote

:peace:
And if only those lost civilisations had the technology we have now to observe our universe, then they may of had more knowledge on the workings of the cosmos than we have now. But they didn't have the means to look at the universe the way we can now and I very much doubt that their knowledge of the universe was any where near the understanding we have now.

I wouldn't say that people were less intelligent or that someone needs a doctorate to their name to be classed smart or intelligent. But I would say we have a much larger knowledge bass to build upon than the lost civilisations had so that coupled with modern technology must enable us to have a better understanding of the heavens.

Now if these old lost civilisations had recorded their findings so that we could have used their data to start our own knowledge base from, then maybe we could be further down the line to finding out some ultimate truths.

I have just noticed you said "
astrological knowledge" as in astrology (I should read more carefully in future) which if you meant my reply means nothing to as any civilisations astrological knowledge wouldn't matter at all as astrology is non consequential rubbish. Where as if you meant astronomical knowledge as in astronomy then my reply has bearing.

Those folks back then did not even know what they were looking at. They were lights in the sky ... magical lights.
Modern mans most basic knowledge of stars , taught in the 3rd grade, is so far beyond ancient mans understanding.

Astrology is the same as religion ... myth. Pure and very very extremely and exceedingly to the point of primitive .... simple.

Not once in that article did they "imply" (that word came up over & over again by the way) that the ancients knew what stars were. Oh yes, they followed the majical lights and tracked their paths ... but they could not comprehend what they were actually looking at. So they like all humans, filled in the blanks with a MYTH.

Same with Christianity and Islam and all other religions.

What is wind to you? Is it magical? Do you think it is done by a series of G*ds? Does it come from a magical horn?

No, we know now that it is caused by an imbalance in Barometric pressure.

The former way produced myths ... tons of them ... all wrong ... including Astrology (which is nonsense).

The latter is PRODUCED by science. The science comes BEFORE the conclusion. Note the big difference.

Unable to grasp the complex answers and sometimes incomplete ones, a certain % of ppl will gravitate towards the SIMPLE (and incorrect) answers to be found in myths.
