How did people in the 60s and 70s grow weed?

This question and thread is simple to answer , as Cannabis was grown the same way for eons around the world by people of many types and this tradition continued into the Americas just the same as it did upon any other continent .

People simply grew Organic herb outdoors and by the late 60s and 70s the Pioneers of the Indoor grow began playing at first with the common fluorescent light and later mercury vapor lamps and onwards to the Sodiums and Halides ...

Most people who grew after prohibition were playing with exotic genetics and few had Indica stock , once the Indica stock was shared the game flourished and became what it was then late 70s and onwards to what it is now .. Selective breeding has been the simple factor in the evolution of cannabis and its growers ..

As well common fertilizers were available back in the 60 and 70s lol

well it starts as a seed... then it gets planted.. and taken care of as any plant you wish to harvest should..

.. I smoked stuff back in the 80's and it hit me more of a head high back then.. have smoked all kinds as a 40+ and nothing was comparable to the way the stuff in the 80's-90's was..
I think as you get older the head high stuff does not effect you as much? I dunno.. any 40+'s agree/disagree?
Find me some Panama red, and I'll let you know.

Hell, I have a hard time distinguishing the difference between indica and sativa doms anymore...some call it tolerance.

When I was younger {a 70's kid} my job was to separate the seeds while my step dad did hot knives off the stove with his buddies. They would then sit down and laugh their asses off while playing euchre. I have no idea what they smoked but it sure seemed to do the trick lol.

We humans interpret the world mostly through the sense of sight and over the years we've noticed that this plant grew better when exposed to certain climates and being the manipulators we are, we harvested it to suit our collective needs. Our genetics are now shedding light on this somewhat symbiotic relationship, showing that we as a species have incorporated this plant to extent that we have receptors that are specific to the cannabis plants make up.
My 2¢

While the first link is very interesting, this magic grass or stock with two sexes, is described and speculated as being hemp, it leaves one to wonder and even though the proof is not scientific, I`ll lean toward maybe it was and the possibilities are good. The second link is 100% Bs with a capital B. There is no way pot will stay green buried in a wooden bowl for 2,700 years in a grave. I wont believe that one. It quotes someone carefully removed the male leaves (they know this How?) and left the poor guy with the seeds and female leaves. (no bud). It also quotes as saying that the seeds color, size and other things lead them to believe it was a cultivated strain, but they left no buds, just leaves. If they were smart enough to cultivate strains, you would think they knew about buds and would leave those instead of female leaves and seeds with the other valuables.

Anyway, I would be impressed if their is literature, talk or evidence or even pictures of Hermies pre 80`s. I never heard of a hermie till the late 80`s.

We people of the 70's grew it outside. Well I had access to farm land and in a corner of the corn field we'd plant bag seed. Grew as tall as the corn!! We'd harvest it in the fall. Ended up with garbage bags of weed!! You'd buy a 'nickel' or a 'dime' bag. But it sure wasn't like what you can get today. I remember getting some Jamaica Gold. Smoked it at school and ended up green!! I was so damn sick. I still have that yearbook. Friends signed it to Ms Green. Good times.

...I was too young in the 70's for pot, but I know a bunch of people that referred to "3 finger bags" - and so on. Sorry if someone has brought that up already :)

Indica's and sativa's were available in the 70'a I had a nice batch of "affie" back in 77 lol

My buds were as good as I grow today, not much indoor grows back then.
I trust your statement man I love talking to the veteran smokers about stuff like this. I hang with a 57 year old who had the actual Thai stick(dipped in opium) a d he said it was heaven lol. Much respect though for smoking for so long :)

Cannabis is first noted to be used by the oldest neolithic culture in China, 6,500 years ago. To say it's not native to Asia is highly incorrect.
i was reading so etching about this they say the first recorded uses were in asia(I'm a believer it's native to Asia anyway) but they said mummies from ancient Egypt had traces of thc in them don't know how the hell thc is lingering in a dead mummified body but that's what i read online somewhere. I thing it was how stuff works

funny post....back then, at least where I was from, you dug a hole, mixed the dirt with the best manure you could find and waited for the deer to eat your stuff or your "not" friends to steal it....lmfao.....mexican weed ( $30/OZ ), Colombian Gold ( $40/OZ ) or Thai stick ( $25/3 OZ stick ) was the best you could buy.....LOL.....you people nowadays have no idea how good you have it. Can't wait to retire and join you !!!!!!
