I have my own little method of aiming a pistol. I'll share. What I do is focus on the target with both eyes open.

I practice with both eyes for both hands but I'm right dominant. I shut one eye while focused on target then open it and shut the other eye and switch back and forth using each eye with the other shut. With both eyes open you'll notice that if you focus on the target it appears in your view that you have two right hands wielding pistols. After switching which eye is open you find that the right eye sees the pistol on the left. 9 mil is my favorite round.

/facepalm.
That damn bushing has been known to free the innards across county lines, did you let him discover that the hard way? Or were you kind and gave forewarning?

Both eyes wide open, don't look at the target, set those peepers on the front sight, squarely in the center of the rear sight, put tip on center mass of target. Squeeze it off using the first pad of the index finger, breathe through the squeeze and pause for effect. Consistently every time. That's how I do it.

Some day I wanna be this good.

If you must know how to avoid killing a person who is armed, you take fucking cover and tell them to surrender. There are many ways to do it but it always requires balls and nerves. It's also risky. The alternative is to kill.
Ya. most people are not ready for a gun fight if they are invaded. This means they don't wear bullet resistant clothing, they don't have proper cover with drywall, children may be in danger, ect..

this is Jeopardy, you know man.. My ballz of steel would shrivel and I would make a mess, sorry. :( I would not make a sound to announce my presence, I would hit them with a gun light and shoot. The light would give me a fraction of a second for a visual target acquisition, as well as a second to know the intruder.

I would not shoot an innocent teen in the wrong house, I would give the purp. enough time so I can partially know the intentions of who is about to be killed. I would evaluate for 0.5 seconds with a blinding light in their eyes, before the worst. That is all I can offer.

and being able to do it in a face to face gun fight...remember reading an article, Gabe Suarez recounts when he was a young pup attending a lecture/display by legendary lawman Bill Jordan. Gabe stood facing Jordan with a pistol cocked and pointed at Jordan. Bill could draw his revolver from a holster rig and fire before Gabe could even pull the trigger. And, it was said that FBI agent Delf "Jelly" Bryce was even faster on the draw than this. Bryce would practice hours a day doing nothing but drawing his .357 from holster. Practice makes perfect!

A lot of people want to sound like bad asses. If you're really good with your piece, you can at least try to avoid killing. I wouldn't expect most people to be able to make a moral decision in such a situation. Most police can't even do that. All I said was that I would be able.
I doubt it. No disrespect intended. If you pull the trigger on somebody, you are using lethal force. I don't care how good you think you are with a gun, in a life threatening situation your abilities are significantly impaired.

I was unclear. I wasn't trying to say I would aim to wound. I was saying that I am not trigger happy.

If they have a weapon you can say they raised it.
I will always assume an intruder is armed and dangerous.

Yes, I see. Just because we the have gun in our hand, now there are many more options than shooting.
It seems like most of the people posting in this thread would be hoping for an excuse to shoot. Then they talk about how fear gets in the way of judgment. I already regret commenting because now they want to get into a pissing contest with me. I hate violence more than I hate talking about this. For any person that doubts what kind of experience a low ranking infantryman had in Iraq in 2003 and 2004, I'll reiterate, I would definitely have the nerves to try to handle the situation without shooting.
