Ya the 60w per board needing no heatsink works out pretty perfectly for a 240 using 4 boards in a set. Those are cool lil' boards.

Anybody know of a place where I can get this setup already assembled? Maybe not as I guess that’s kinda the point of buying the parts separate lol. I can swing $240. Blue ole was $180, difference would be worth it.

They don't sell a kit for the 120s. Just the boards for DIY.

It's super easy to throw a frame together to out them 4 in a row onto for your 2x4.

Where my struggle will be is getting the thing wired correctly and getting the driver setup right and the power supply, etc. I don’t know Jack squat about electrical stuff.

It's simple man. Line goes to the wire with the fat prong, neutral to the small one, ground to the green bottom prong. The DC side has only 2. It depends what way it's being wired how this is done. Whether it's series or parallel.
But it's basically just sticking wires in to the boards connectors.

Honestly, the best light for that size tent would likely be the HLG 300L. The dimension of the fixture are perfect for that tent and the wattage is dimmable down to 90w with a maximum of 270w. Keep in mind these boards are $450 but very high efficiency. Replaces a 600w HID (mh or hps) which would be a headache to have in 2x4. Shoot for 4-8oz per cycle. 1-3 plants depending on your setup

Stick with parallel, hlg-240h-36a for qb132 and hlg-240h-24a for qb120, much easier then series.

You’re making a mistake going with HPS instead of quality LED in 2020 IMO man. Honestly. Your power bill is going to skyrocket with 800w HPS.
edit and I started on HPS and swore by it. but the heat, massive fixture, many fans, high watts and price on the power bill. Just wasn’t worth it after I looked into good LEDS.

Buy you a kingbrite 240 watt Light from Alibaba for 220. It will take almost 3 weeks to get, but your gonna get the most bang for your buck. When you want to add more light, you just buy another one.

Led tech has came along way, but big agricultural hasn’t moved from DE Gavitas to LEDs. Why?
The bud from gavitas compared to bud from a lot of LEDs lack size and density.
I was gonna switch out lights but bought a mini-split instead.
I’m gonna buy one HLG 650r and compare it side by side with 1000 watt hps. That will determine if I buy 3 more.

They buy those lights off of alibaba and then mark them up and resell them. I can get that 500 watt light for 250 on alibaba. With Cree far reds instead of the cheeper ones.HLG is awesome, i own and love my 300v2.

Please do compare man. As I said I went from HPS to LED. HPS produces HUGE buds, but can be airy. Noticed LED may make smaller buds, but they’re hard enough to break windows with.
don’t mistake me.Sometimes I’m like fuck I wish I had HPS tent with big colas, but... p4p weight for weight, the leds produce the same and the power bill is lower and heat is zero worry. Those are my selling points but I swear sometimes I think I wish I had the HPS back. Gonna follow you and see what you got man. Cool.

Just to clarify the OP is considering buying one 400 watt HPS for a 2'x4'x5' tent.
Those are all good reasons to switch to a more compactly designed more efficient source of lighting.
How long do you think you would have used HPS if you had a larger extraction fan and were able to keep your temperature in a more desirable range?

on the contray, my LEDS run ice cold, power bill is literally half what it was for same watts, and it’s “new school”
I’ll never shoot down HPS to anyone. They fucking WORK. But. If you’re wanting/needing to be more efficient, new tech LEDS are quite nice lights in the long run.
rock on man. Awesome question. I’ve had about ten runs I guess and am just now dialing my QBs in. Top 3 runs one of which came from HPS. I almost want to run 300 w HPS and 300w LED. That HPS feels like a “sun” the LEDS feeling like new school “bonus”.

Reason commercial sticks to DE is because they're cheap to begin with, and bulk discounts are INSANE. They're all certified and safe. LED fixtures with the same certifications as DE, are not cheap. Not even. So that's why they stick to them. And almost all of commercial spots are on 3 phase power and are just ready for DE.
