Herijuana and Strawberry Kush - 4x8 LED Soil grow

As the title says - I'm growing Herijuana (Steve Tuck version), and my standard Strawberry Kush (I still have a lot of these)

Heri - 11/11 germed, 10/11 are getting their second true leaves now (1 damped off) --- Bottom two rows in the wide shot.
- so far the Heri is more vigorous out of the gate. Leaves are longer & pointed compared with the SK.
SK - 12/12 germed and will start growing alongside the Heri

These pics are in a 4x4 under (2) Viparspectra lights - appx 530w at the wall.
The Heri are the bottom two rows - the SK are the top two rows.
All will be in 5G fabric / FFOF / 20% perlite and fed General Hydroponics trio at full strength.

The Heri will veg 4-7 weeks depending on the crop before it and listening to the plants.
Some of the SK will move into the flowering tent at up-potting --- didn't occur to me that I don't have room for (22) 5g pots in a 4x4 until I was looking at all those seedlings.
That will just mean a staggered harvest.
Group shot - SK on top, Heri on the bottom.

05/16 Update - Vegging nicely.

I haven't been counting nodes or anything this round - finally not stressing through the baby phase!
The Heri are all up-potted to their 5gal homes.
- Heri has been a vigorous grower for me so far - this is gonna be FUN!
SK - 3 of them have been up-potted* -- gotta get more soil for them tomorrow.
As you can see, I have more plants than sq. ft. --- the SK that don't fit are going into the flowering tent. The Heri will be here a few more weeks - I'd like them to fill the tent before I move them to the flower tent.
*Bottom 2, lower right, and the remaining plants in small bags are SK.
Other news - got a 2x4 for seed-making!

05/26 --- Lights on, what a difference 10 days makes!
All but one of the SK have moved to the flowering tent - not exactly sure how I missed one.... bongsmilie ....ohhh that's right!
I need to lower the lights - they're a bit stretchy, but stalks are THICK
Removed the bottom 3 branch & leaf pairs - plenty of room for water & maintenance.
Feeding GH Trio @ 2 tsp(ea) : gal - They drank about 1/3rd gal ea.
I'm really diggin' this strain so far - I check daily, and they get bigger daily - I like that!! But I really need to start finding room in the flower tent quick or there's going to be trouble - or I could just flower them here and delay my perpetual aspirations (and take the "too many plants" lesson.)
I have my eye on two plants as boys - still too early to tell, and the breeder says he's never spotted males until a week or two into flowering. One is much taller and "stringier" than the others; all have their "legs" (forget the correct name) crossed except one - "he" has outward pointing "legs".
Here's some lights on pics:

06/02 Updates & Changes.

Herijuana:
Are growing scary fast. So I made a decision based on current height, and hopefully by flipping on 05/28-29 I'll be able to manage the stretch. (my tent is 80" tall, and the plants are on the floor, hopefully being paranoid.)
I tried supercropping the main stems with mixed success - had to support one that I really jacked up. :wall:
-This morning, all of them laughed off supercropping and went vertical before lights off. The exception being the one that I broke. However, it already supports itself, despite being a heavy top!
Last watering was the first full strength with the GH Trio / .5 Gal tap water - and I'm seeing a bit of tip burn on the lone Strawberry Kush (Canary in the coal mine?)
Watered last night with plain tap, .5 gal each.
I haven't really gone through them too much identifying sex yet. I'm planning to look at each plant closer tonight and flag any suspected boys.
Lights on - pics in B&W:

Strawberry Kush
Decided I'm too stoned for two journals - so I'm splitting into two sections.
What a different strain from the Heri! They are one day younger (planting-wise), and went into the flower tent one week earlier - sort of according to plan.
Pistils are showing on most of the plants and they're responding well to LST.
20210602_060523.jpg
They way things are going - I think I got it backwards:
I should have flowered the Heri after 4-5 weeks and vegged the SK much longer. -- Shows that I have a long road before saying I'm experienced and getting too full of my own ferts.
I might be running a similar combo on my next run - so we'll see.

I picked up a DIY kit at https://growdaddyleds.com/
Eight 2,700k - Four 6,500k - and two XLG-240s with dimmers for power. I really like em so far!
Already planning some upgrades to fill those spaces - maybe some Emerson effect boards, but on a separate dimmer / pwr supply, maybe some additional grow boards in a different spectrum.
Thought those bars looked familiar… I got some of the red boosters for flower. I think only $20.. just saw you mentioned the Emerson’s.. I have no complaints with em

They're the LM561 - not 301b.
I liked the specs and price of these more than I liked the increases on the 301b / h.

How do you like the red boosters?
I'm thinking of picking up 4, and maybe some of the more expensive "grow bars" - look like a bar made of leftovers, but sound effective!

I love em, cheap and effective , I run 2 in a 4x4 at 20ish w each.. they don’t get very hot at all so you prob can get them w/o the sinks to save a few bucks. Can Get away with an aluminum flat/angle.. exciting to see how they turn out under the new and improved! :joint:
— forgot to ask,, sunset/county was POPPing off down here last week. Did you get out?

If not diy , I’d suggest getting two rapidled uva trich booster pucks.. I’ve only used them the last 2-3 weeks of flower with noticeable diff. But now with more knowledge on it I’m about run the uva full flower cycle 12/12.

No!!!! I picked up a job on Hollywood & my back wasn't too happy with me.
I'm (finally) getting back out though - had some chest high Strand to myself last week!
Rode a longboard, but thinking a shortboard might be better - something I can duckdive like my 5'11".

Did you get any?

I'm still running some red-based blurples above the racks - mostly 660nm with a few 730nm & a few UV & white diodes.
--wonder if the plants closest to them will look different? Eventually I'll get that tent loaded with even canopy light!

Quick note - I got a good first whiff of the Heri last night while in the tent:

ASSphalt. --- Acrid, wet road-tar is the most noticeable scent --- hash-spices (way) underneath that --- and something barfy (I checked and re-checked - checked again. Yep. Bile.)
It's a bit unpleasant tbh - and I LOVE it!
I'm hoping it gets LOUD in here!

06/08 - Culled two males. Two remain for pollen collection.
Planning to place parchment paper underneath as many as possible to catch pollen.
Drinking 1/2 gal tap water each.
Lights on shots - sorry.
20210608_212331.jpg20210608_212411.jpg20210608_212450.jpg

Meanwhile, in the 4x8 Sorority house,
Heri's are popping pistils and seem to like the environment.
One plant looks like it has a slight cal/mag def. - I fed tonight, that might help. -- GH Trio full strength bloom schedule.
Drinking 1/2 gallon of feed each
Planning to take the largest female, maybe two, back to the 4x4 when they're bigger and apply pollen to every site. If I'm gonna seed a plant, might as well SEED a plant!

SK are chugging along - small, but stacking buds nicely! Trichomes showing already, but we have weeks to go.
Drinking 1/3 - 1/2 gallon of feed each.

06/14 4x4 Pollen Party - Pics tonight, but I'm hoping to get some help -

The boys are spewing up my 4x4 - I was collecting pollen by placing parchment paper under the sites and fixing it to the spot.
This morning I opened the tent and was met with A LOT (I think) of pollen.
The parchment seems to be working, pollen drifts are collecting.
I cut the lights & ventilation for collection, but I'm going to reverse to collecting at lights on under a table lamp. This stuff goes EVERYWHERE (guess that's its job, eh?). I'm dedicating a gardening outfit for that room while the Heri boys are doing their thing.
Leaving the boys in with the girls while I pollenate the 2 best Heri Girls, then might drop them down to a 2x4 after I get the males culled.

HELP - best collection / application practices?
Collection - efforts have been clumsy at best, and I don't want to waste any (more :wall: )
Pollination - Planning to use a 1/4 tsp (or similar) and pollenate each site by hand while keeping the boys in the tent to assist....

06/22 - Updates:
Herijuana and Strawberry Kush are VERY easy to tell apart.
20210622_202107.jpg
The Heri are bigger plants, but have shorter pistils
- The aroma has (thankfully) turned to a sandalwood / spice / weed.
- The large fans have a variegated pattern - is that an issue? They seem to be growing strong...
- Buds are stacking nicely, hoping for a nice harvest with these EXCEPT:
- I had some problems & my tent hit 104f for a few hours. Everyone recovered, but one Herijuana girl was standing tall, basking in the heat. This girl will go into the 4x4 soon.
20210622_202155.jpg20210622_202447.jpg
Strawberry Kush is chugging along - BUT either I have a pheno with short / single cola dominance, or I was more stoned than usual and planted 3 seeds of a different strain.
-The large single cola pic is the best example of them.
20210622_202537.jpg20210622_202632.jpg20210622_202647.jpg20210622_202655.jpg

4X4 - Everytime I think the boys are done, they go again.
Having issue with rh - mid-70's
The girl's pistils are receding into her buds - she'll make seeds.
A sister will join her tomorrow morning.

Update 06/29 - The boys have had their way - well ---- if THEIR way meant banging them over a collection bin for a long “10 count”, banging them on every flower site, then applying a 1/4 tsp to make a pollen cap and powder trails on every single flower site. I even broke the main stalk on the king from bangin’ him too hard - which seemed to make him angry - he got huge and jizzed all over the tent for days!
All this while my Wife was in the next room! :cuss:

The king’s main flower is HUGE, very cool to look at, VERY messy - clouds fly off of it every time the air is disturbed - I cleaned the CF sock today when I noticed the fan RPMs were down - the sock was clogged with pollen - this stuff gets on EVERYTHING.
It’s also got a really cool aroma - like a musky jasmine and weed.

It’s taken me by surprise even though I knew it would happen - the smaller boy is dead/dying. RIP.
The king is on his way out too - he sprouts new leaves, but they’re tiny and wilt fast. The flowers get dustier by the day.
I water / feed them the same as the girls, but it looks like their work here is done.

One of the girls is VERY seeded. This is my first seed run, so I didn’t want to miss the pollen-spill and put this girl in early when she was just starting to show pistils. She’s a bit small, but new seeds keep showing!

The bigger girl was held in the flower tent 1.5 weeks longer to let her develop more. Hairs are turning a pretty copper shade and then receding; but so far there have been 3 waves of pistils receding / growing, every day I find new ones to pollenate. Note the frost show on her leaves - I'll be keeping the girls separate as they start to drop seeds - if the kids are anything like Mom & Dad..... :weed:
