Griffin's Garden

Not sure how much actual journaling I'm going to do, more like occasional photos and comments about the contents of my garden. Most of my previous posts have been in the Peak Seeds thread but I don't want to spam that great place up with non-PSBC stuff, so here we are.

First up is Purple Kush from the Saskatchewan Seed Company. I know nothing else about the lineage, but so far she is looking pretty decent. Today is day 40 from the flip and both the breeder listing (7-8 weeks) and my eyes tell me she's not far from the end. She's got a strange, cool smell, almost like a sour red wine.

Feel free to comment. All respectful discussion is welcome in this thread.

Looks great. Have you grown much from them?
Thank you. :)

I've bought the three strains they offer. First was the CBD Green Beach. SSC says it's an outdoor only strain but I didn't listen. IIRC, I had a male that I culled and then a female that would not stop stretching. She was just a long, viney thing that I ran out of patience with and culled due to wanting that space for other things.

I harvested a small strawberry female last spring. She was a wonderful surprise: sweet, tasty and a heavy couchlock stone. I just harvested a male of this strain and the pollen is currently drying. I think some will go on a cut of C99 and the rest I'll figure out later.
Male strawberry finishing:

So far, the strawberry and PK have impressed me, especially given the price. I can't give a fair opinion on the green beach, not having grown it outdoors.

Where did you pick the seeds from? I have never heard of the company but it has me intrigued. Im gonna start playing around pollen chucking some outdoor photo genetics next year to see if I can find something I like that might be able to reliably finish where I am around the Edmonton area.

Hey fellow YEG area grower. :)
Hemp depot has the SSC stuff. I hope I can say the name.

Yeah, if anyone can develop a strain for our climate, it would be our fellow frozen neighbors. SSC says the PK and Strawberry are both indoor/outdoor, though the Green Beach is listed as outdoor only.

Oh cool. Im not sure the rules... I think it is ok to talk about seed distributers here? I haven't looked at Hemp Depot in a while. Always good to meet another YEG grower. I just met my first person IRL through cannabis networking. We did a fun little exchange.

Curious if you have had any luck with outdoor photos in our area? Im gonna have Erdpurt, Purple Satellite, and a few autos from a guy in Calgary, Wildwood Seeds next year and plan to make an orgy with them. I have been looking at the Friesland (M33) from The Real Seed Company as well.

Sorry not trying to hijack your thread just interested in your thoughts. :blsmoke:

All cool, not a hijack at all. This is a discussion thread. :bigjoint:

That SSC stuff has been at HD for maybe even a couple years now. I know I bought the Green Beach some time in 2019. Nothing but positive things to say re doing business with HD after half a dozen or more transactions.

I don't do outdoor, but there are some pretty talented people in this thread, if you haven't seen it already. It's kind of died off but I'm sure if you see anything there that interests you it would be easy to revive:

Hi HGG, subbing...
Hey @Snowback. Cool to have you here. Thanks for stopping in.

------------------------------------

Here's a little germination tester of a (Sweet Skunk x Blueberry) x Blueberry that turned out to be some awesome smoke. I may have shared this one in the Peak thread, can't recall, but I like how it turned out so here it is again for those who haven't seen it. I've got a pile of these seeds, gotta get back to them soon and see what else is in there.

Currently I have a little mini SOG started with some Blueberry x Northern Lights I made. About half of them are showing typical BB twisted leaves and are stunted compared to the rest. They are being left in veg to see if they grow out of this stage. A couple are looking like they are beginning to demonstrate a more normal growth pattern. The others were flipped 7 days after emerging. Nothing too interesting yet, so no photos yet.

Nice to see more of your explorations HG! I've been exploring some of HD as well, good to know SSC is good. I'll add it to the list :)On that note I just finished a run of Richard Williams Back to the Congo and Nova's Triple berry. I'd recommend both!

Thanks so much, @Gekokujo

That's cool to know about the Richard Williams. I don't mind flying blind on a breeder once in a while but it's definitely better to have some prior feedback. I often look at the HD menu and wonder about some of the lesser known names there.

Also, super interesting to read your findings on the Peak thread re letting the foxtail BB pheno go super long. I didn't realize it was a phenotypical expression, I thought I was doing something incorrectly or BB was being a bitch. I was chopping around day 80. Guess next time I'll let her keep going and see what I end up with.

Here's a shot of one of my foxtailing girls.

Thats a real beauty! I bet taken the distance they would have quite a punch. I had to much nitrogen in my initial run of blueberry and I spent the whole time compensating so I really don't think I pulled the most out of it. The high was so clear and happy I wasn't expecting it. I ran the last of my pack and got one female (which I have not fucked up yet!)

Yeah me too with HD. I kind of decided to go on a bit of a quest to explore the genetic variety as there are so many amazing things available. Its why peak has such great offerings especially in the diversity of the IBLs (not to mention the quality of his crosses). Its such an amazing resource, frankly and especially at the price it is. So with HD I've delved into some of the smaller breeders with cool genetics. So far I've tried Whish, Nova and Richard williams. I'll post some pictures, let me know if its too many!

Back to the Congo is really different! The congo came from ace seeds and is called congo#3. Deep chunk is ald afghani from Tom Hill. I ran it and got a deep chunk leaner and sativa leaner and both were crazy in different ways.
This is the Sativa Leaner makes me think of how people describe trainwreck. Thin stems and insane yield. I didnt find the stems weak but they started leaning due to the weight as Yield was huge. Smells like irish sping soap and sweetness.

This is the Deep Chunk leaner has the strangest smell of fuel and herbs, it is one of the most cloying weed smells I've encountered.

This is a triple berry from Nova. It is a PCK leaner and has a thick skunk/berry musk. Still curing but I'm having a hard time resisting :) The breeder is active on ICMAG under the name browntrout.

This is Whish seeds Jamaican ( known as DoubleJam) f3 which is a cross between Cannabiogen Jamaican blue mountain and a 70's lambsbread. It was bred a while ago and then bred to f3 by Whish ( I think he put up an f4 now.) Flowering is 14-18 weeks, it should be interesting. there are some threads about the original on ICMAG.

There is just so much cool stuff to try, haha!

Beautiful stuff, and that many more possibles for me to add to the list. Thanks for sharing that, @Gekokujo

Just a quick note, I finally got around to the JOTI Bluebery Muffin.

I've been thinking about trying to make fem seeds at some point, so I had the gibberelic acid powder out of the cupboard and I remembered it being used to germinate stubborn or old seeds. Just for shits and giggles, I dissolved a tiny amount in 99% iso before adding the iso to some warmish water.

I did the paper towel method with 3 seeds and the treated water. Obviously it's a small sample size, but 2/3 had cracked in less than 24 hours and the third and biggest took about 36, but by the time I checked it had a decent tail. Each went in coco/perlite and now, in approx 48 hours, all have poked above the coco. Clearly not proof of anything yet, but interesting and promising information.

When I tried using GA3 previously to reverse females, it induced ludicrous amounts of stretch. That has me thinking the extremely squat Romulan pheno I have may be a good candidate. Whatever strain I choose, at least this time I'll have an idea what to expect.

Update on how that works out when the time comes. I'm curious about how well it will work.

And post on how you like the Blueberry Muffin. I wanted to try that one at some point.

I have a few extra female clones on the go, I'll likely pick a pair and start the spray as soon as they root. I'll make sure to top the hell out of them and keep 'em tight to the light but they'll still stretch to the moon with gibberelic. Last time I tried I had a clone shaped into one full loop and was well into the second 360 before I got sick of the experiment. Ended up with a node about every 18 inches. I know Ga3 isn't the best way to reverse females, it just happens to be what I have so I'll screw around with it.

~72 hours since the Blueberry Muffins hit the paper towel and two are well over an inch above the coco and the third not far behind. Generally seeds I pop are are maybe breaking the coco by this time. Could be a strain thing, but I am going to assume for now that the Ga3 had an effect. I'll definitely keep it in mind for any future seeds that have germination concerns.

I've grown the PSBC and a bunch of crosses and now I'm really looking forward to trying a new take on blueberry. Not sure yet if I'll veg these for a while or if they'll end up in the SOG. Depends on the M:F ration of the plants in there right now.

Welcome to my thread. Yes, it's acid, all the cool kids are feeding it to their plants these days.

It's a watermark. It is in all but one of my pics on this page.

Seconded! I'm just finishing some Jordan's blue lights and they are really nice, but his blueberry looks really different from Peaks.

Peaks Blueberry seems to be based in earlier DJ Short work. Any ideas what JOTI uses for his blueberry?

Not a clue on the JOTI BB lineage, I'm afraid.

Here's an little update on the Purple Kush. I'm always dubious when a breeder claims a 7-8 week flowering time. Eight, fine, but seven is usually an exaggeration in my experience. That said, here's a little tester I just snipped off to put under the scope. This is day 44 since the light change and there is already a good sprinkling of amber.
