Good Start?

@sandman83 Yeah it's very slow growth compared to what I've seen so my best guess is that my temperatures are low. My light is a 45w equivalent led pulling actual 15w from the wall. I was planning on upgrading to 800w for flower and someone recommended I do 150w first so I might go that route as they've been stunted enough but I need to think about it.

@NASAbud I've heard nothing but good things about Big Bud. I definitely will look into something for the roots. Uptake like that definitely boosts yield.

When I first started this plant was growing so slowly I thought I actually killed it, I was using a box with tinfoil, and a really cheap screw bulb I got from canadian tire, but I kept reading and looking at youtube vids, slow I got some nutrients a better light, then a tent. So far so good. Now what I'm using is coco, a 7g smart pot , a ts600 mars hydro light. 2 fans in a vivosun 2x4x5 tent. I'm doing this as a hobby but I'm already excited on my next grow. It's going to be bigger and I'll have to invest in more equipment but it's fun. Good grow bro.

@NASAbud Awesome man, that gives me hope that she'll pick things up when more leaves come in. I've also been upgrading as I grow. The first few days I had the nitro under an incandescent bulb about a foot away because I didn't have the led yet but the sour og has been under the led 100% of the time.

@xtraLRG420 if you havent ordered the 800w light yet i wouldnt. Heres my suggestion, If youve got money to burn go with the HLG300 v2 Rspec , if you cant afford that then look at this light. I currently run 2xP300 platinum LEDs in my flower room, ive been contemplating the HLG300 myself but alot of people are getting really good results from those Spiderfarmer's too. Whichever price range you can afford these quantum board led's really seem to be the future, they've almost managed to perfectly replicate sunlight at this point -minus the UV but you can supplement that with small strips.

@DailyBlastin Well my man I definitely don't have money to burn and even $150 seems a bit steep. The 800w led I'm looking at is $45 bucks on Amazon. I will upgrade if I stick with the hobby because those lights you posted honestly look pretty sweet. For now I'm going barebones on cost to get all the essential parts together and see what that harvest looks like and each run I'll upgrade a piece of my setup. If I could get to the point where I'm growing enough to not buy any and I'm satisfied with the quality then yeah I'll definitely go state of the art with it from the money I'm saving not going into the dispensary.

@steve870 Nope. It's 800w equivalent so definitely something more like 200w from the wall. That would actually be good for my situation as far as not shocking the plants I hear.

there's no such thing as equivalency in grow lights. It's just manufacturers trying to sell leds. a 250 true watt led will replace a 250 watt hps

@steve870 Really? I thought they rated them like that because some tech in led lighting made them stronger at lower wattages. I mean if it said 150w for the same price I would still buy it.

really yes they are bogus claims. They do output less heat though but it's around the same light output. The expensive led lights will perform better in terms of light quality that may affect yield but prepare to spend some serious money

@steve870 Hmm, I guess 800w equivalent is a bigger number so they figure people won't look into it and just think it's a full 800w. I get you though man. As far as money goes I just didn't want to go all in on my first purchase. The way I planned things I'm gonna be just under $200 starting investment so if that yields around an oz dry then to me that pays for itself. On my second grow I'll drop another 300 or so on a good light and break even on yield increase and basically be set to just spend on electrical and water until another big expense comes up.

honestly for that small a budget, depending if you can take the heat, a MH/HPS will be better.

@sandman83 An MH/HPS system would be better at low budget? What would a 150w bulb of each run me? I can only use the heat now during the winter but as early as March we're up in the 90s here in the desert and led is probably gonna be necessary temperature wise most of the year.

I mean, you can get a cheap 400w - 600w digi ballast + hood + cheap light for sub 200 all day, they just aren't as efficient as the newer stuff and produce heat. My solution is to just run them at night when its cold instead of running heaters at night, and use warm air during the day to maintain temps.

@sandman83 Oh when I said just under 200 that's my total initial investment: tent, lights, pots, soil, nutrients, fan, carbon filter, everything. That would be closer to $380 if I went with an almost $200 light initially. The light I have now was only $25 to accommodate all the things I needed to get started. That system will definitely be kept in consideration when I'm looking at price per lumen and such on the upcoming upgrade.
