gnat larve in soil

what you do guys use to kill it..just a question for the future..ive dont the potato on the top of the soil and watered with soapy water..not really sure how affect these are..

ive heard to put sand on the top of the soil but i think that is just to keep them from getting in..and it keeps less oxygen from getting to the roots..

any chems yall use that are 100% sure fire and or methods

the only way to offically get rid of them is by ordering nematodes or if you can buy them locally thats cool to...but you really have nothing to worry about...they are very common. if your plant is growing healthy it outgrows them before they can cause any real damage. I used to order nematodes until I found out they made no real diff because my plants always outgrew them. if you want to order though nature's control is the site i always used.

The second you see knats go get some fly papper hang it catch has many has possible b4 this happens.you should always have stuff like this too hand.i always store stuff to do wih spider mites and all other insect infestations.

Depending on how bad the problem is you can flush all the soil of the roots so you are left with a plant with roots hanging from the bottom.the next step is to get them in fresh soil the seond the last bit of muck hits the container you have flused it into.but get rid of any old soil that you have lieing about in the room you need it all out they may have laid in that too.but this does work i promise you i have done it several times.

Just drop an inch thick layer of sand over all your soil and hang flypaper. Problem solved.

those larve turn into fungas gnats so dont ignore the problem neno is correct the only way to get rid of them is nematodes but once they turn to gnats they are easier to kill and you need to kill them cause each one will lay hundreds of eggs (more larve) and then you will have an infestation.

If you put down a layer of sand you break their reproductive cycle. They don't come back after they die.
