Getting my mojo back!

Humboldt Fog much later on, getting a little closer to chop, but probably needs 2-3 weeks at least, I never chop by specific dates, I typically let the buds tell me when they’re ready. The smells are very diesel dominant, with some skunky and cheese smell undertones if that makes sense. Can’t wait to see the final weight on these girls.

So I chopped everything down yesterday, and cleaned almost the whole environment, swept my floor, wiped down everything that’s a hard surface, cleaned the dust out of my fans, and I dumped out the soil out of my pots so I can rinse them thoroughly.

This last run was literally just one issue after another, mainly environmental fluctuations, so I will be switching many things up this time.

What kind of lights you using? Just curious.
Quantum board LEDs…

currently an HLG Scorpion Diablo, I got it on a really good sale that they had last year before they released those models that have the reflectors built-in.

I was a diehard HPS guy until in about mid 2021 I got my first small LED for veg, then I upgraded to a bigger HLG for a flower tent, then last year I grabbed the Scorpion Diablo for my walk in closet flower space.

Time to hit the drawing board.

I got to figure out what approach I’ll be taking this next run, maybe if I feel extra froggy, I could start making a soil mix to put in large pots, either Super Soil style like I’ve done many times with great results, or maybe similar to Coots mix, which I’ve also done a few times with excellent results as well… for flower maybe I’ll put them in about 10-15 gallon pots roughly, that way it could be nearly water-only and supplemented with some top dressing and teas if needed.

Maybe if I want to use pots that aren’t as large, I’ll squeeze a few more plants in there, but flower in maybe 5 gallon pots, and I’ll hit them mainly with pure blend pro as needed, and keep it pretty simple…

I have most of what I need for either approach, I would just need to buy a few things for the soil mix, or if I go the liquid nutrients route, I may need a few more 5 gallon pots.

Always learning and changing my ideas towards growing. Some of the biggest challenges in my current environment is higher humidity (being in Florida that’s a constant), and also height restrictions with my ceiling height being 8’ not 10’ like my old house and setup, but those problems can be combated with a good dehumidifier and some more aggressive plant training than I would do in other situations.

You should go the opposite way.. go 3 gallon and cram as many fucking plants you can in that space.. do a short 2 week veg and do a massive pheno hunt amongst a great number of plants.

They make taller 3 gal pots that aren't as wide that could give you a lot of opportunity for higher numbers.. cram more in.

I'm not sure how big your footprint is. But using pots like these would surely give you the opportunity to grow a few more plants. lol.

That’s a good idea man I’ve heard that from a few other folks too, as that way I could clone everything before flower, and keep all the more impressive things I got stashed away as moms, etc.

Plus I’ll be F2ing a bunch of the older packs I have waiting to be ran, including many Bodhi and Subcool original lines… but I think I’ll be doing a run just for smoke and pheno hunting first and like you said, I haven’t done the short veg with small flower pots approach in years, so it would be pretty cool to see what I find in the hunt and just how many plants I can cram in there to get a good yield.

My footprint is roughly 5x5 that I use for actual plant space, the walk in closet is about 6x6, but I use that extra foot on the sides to be able to squeeze in there and move plants when watering and looking for issues, etc.

And I’ve never really seen those taller 3 gallon pots, those look awesome, definitely should be able to squeeze a good number of them in there, I just need to see how wide they are and I can estimate how many I can squeeze in there successfully.

it looks like they are about 8.5” diameter, so I may could fit maybe 49-50 in a 5x5 square if my maths not off so far.

Getting supplies and everything I need for a new run I’ll be starting soon, hoping to knock this one outta the park this time since last run I completely messed up in several ways haha.

I would’ve started popping some beans immediately but I didn’t want to hit a bump in the road and be scrambling to buy something I needed. I much prefer to have everything I need from the beginning, that way I can just focus on paying my electric and water bills during the grow but otherwise expenses are basically covered.

Nice stuff! Fellow FL grower myself. If you like soil and it’s your house and whatnot, why not just setup a soil bed? You can pop quite a few cuts in a bed and just keep reusing it for years with minimal input and effort. I’m hopefully closing on a house this week and I’ll be setting up indoor soil beds once I’m in my own place.

Yeah it’s my own place, I want to do a few beds in my backyard garden area both for some veggies and some outdoor flower too.

I have a few Sativa landrace strains that would be able to handle the humidity and heat here for sure.

And then I can keep my indoor garden flexible in case I ever want to do comparisons of different methods side by side.

Braver than myself putting plants outdoors here. Maybe 30-40+ years ago, but too many people here these days. Would be fun to see what can finish here and the quality though for sure. I’m putting solid beds inside for cannabis. Outside will be veggies and all of that. Best of luck!

It's a gorilla shorty.

Is it this one:
Gorilla Grow Tent Shorty 2' x 2.5' Grow Tent, $185.95
Never seen one of those before. :) I'm continuing on thru your happy journal.
That’s very much like mine, I just used the 3’ x 3’ size actually!

But they are perfect for height restrictions, especially with the right lighting you can still pull some very nice stuff out of these, just not huge plants..

Also they are perfect for veg say like a mother and clones and using another area for flower if you have the space for example.

It looks like you're pulling great quantity, and also GREAT quality out of there, my friend.
I'd be bursting with pride if i were you. I should change my sig to say, "I'm not a grower,
i'm too chicken, but i'm a grower fan boy." That says it all. I just wish upon wish that I knew
somebody nearby who was. I'd finance their entire grow op.

I gotta ask, when you pollenated a couple years ago or so, did you try the buds with the seeds?
How were they? I know you cleaned out the seeds first, but I have a theory that buds with seeds
might be a much smoother, more pleasing tasting smoke, and even a better high. I'd love to know
what your experience is.

Honestly the bud was pretty good potency abd taste wise I’d say very close to the mom unseeded, the main thing is getting out all the little seed pods that cover and protect the seeds while they develop inside the buds as those taste almost like stems very hen you smoke those seed pods but if you can remove most of them, it’s completely fine, and that material also can be used to make edibles or hash.

I love making bubble hash with material like that as it is less trouble than to pick out all those little things lol

Also, I think we all started smoking with seeded bud unless much younger with the advent of dispensaries and legalization, so it could be much worse than to be stuck with some seeded buds if you preserve a strain, it’s much worth the time effort and it’s an awesome learning experience.

plus with how expensive seeds are getting more recently, I always encourage people to look into pollen chucking for themselves starting with a few strains they enjoy to grow and smoke and experiment with the results, as needed to get the desired effects, yield, and growth patterns.

Got a couple new things the other day, my new bluelab ph and conductivity pens arrived.

Now between a new medium to try out, new tools to be more precise with, new genetics to play with, I basically have flipped my approach and techniques “overnight” haha

I love trying new methods and different techniques, you never really know what you may end up learning and really may end up growing maybe your best crop yet!

In the past, I have personally preferred a bit longer of veg time and large pots with organic soil, usually relying on top dressing and aerated compost teas if my plants run out of gas from the soil, but I’ve seen a lot of people get both really good yields and great quality smoke from the approach that I’m trying this run.
