She denies that she had sexual relationship with one on her staff but she hired onto her staff somebody she was in a consensual sexual relationship with. Then she resigned. The contradictions would need explaining if she were to stay in office.
The photos and salacious details, I find boring. To me, this is all about changing the standards to which we hold our leadership to.

Congressional leaders should avoid the appearance of corrupt acts.

Word smith it how you like. The way you say it, it would seem that avoiding looking pretentious is the reason. I look at it differently but agree on the basic premise:
Don't fuck the boss
Don't fuck your employees.
Don't give the appearance of doing so.
I don't care if she once had a relationship with a person she later hired. I do think that if she did, she should take pro-active steps to avoid the third "Don't". Assholes will never be convinced so they don't matter. Still, she should be willing and able to provide obective and factual evidence to the investigation to clear her name if she wants to remain in office. Which she declined to do.
