Free school lunch for public schools.

The point is they are gifted free lunch because their money should be spent else where like rent or food for the house. If they are spending the money on other things they shouldn't get the break. Every citizen's school child should get a free lunch at this rate.

And yet another small goverment libertarian/republican trying to get the goverment to tell people how to live

school lunches around here are like $2.25 a day or so.. :(
that is around $4500 before they graduate or $400 a year not that much. And I brought this up not because of the monetary value but the lack of reasoning behind it. I would never want to see anyone go hungry especially a child, but if they truly are in a slump where is this extra money coming from. You can argue that getting an extra ice cream for lunch is not comparable to a gift-less Christmas, but no one know what is really happening behind the scenes.

Anyone win that lottery:hump:.

School budgets always seem to be trumped up in some way . We had to buy all kinds of things for the kids - pencils , pens and even all the paper they needed cause they were broke and they bought a whole bunch of new desks and waste baskets that year . The old desks were put into the parking lot , most in great shape and given away . I took two and two chairs , some guy took a whole bunch and sold them . But the school was broke .

most psychopaths do
it's that lack of a moral compass and feelings of guilt
morals are not compelling me here. Its logic, take what you want but call it for what it is. it's not a necessity its a handout at this point. I still support it.
(before you blow your liberal load I'm just talking about this topic)

I'm not here to fight, i'm here to debate. So instead of name calling why don't you make a point.

The liberal thing to do would be to force all schools to give out free lunches. The common sense thing to do would be to give that power back to the community to make the decision.

I agree with that. I would think they do because each city has it's own school system, but since free school lunch is a federal program they must not have a voice.

I Googled this topic and apparently it is bigger then i thought. there is something called "SNAP Fraud" that this falls under.
Its a shame that others ruin it for those who really need it

SNAP fraud is when SNAP benefits are exchanged for cash. This is called trafficking and it is against the law. <<<<Food stamps

SNAP fraud also happens when someone lies on their application to get benefits or to get more benefits than they are supposed to get.

SNAP fraud also happens when a retailer has been disqualified from the program for past abuse and lies on the application to get in the program again.

USDA and the Obama administration are actively working on behalf of American taxpayers to protect the federal investment in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and make sure the program is targeted towards those families who need it the most. USDA aggressively acts to control trafficking by using SNAP purchase data to identify suspicious transaction patterns, conducting undercover investigations, and collaborating with other investigative agencies.

This is one free program I am 100% for, hands down.

As bad as the food is generally, should be free for everyone.

What about clothes, healthcare, shelter, water, etc.... Should all of these necessities be "free"? Nothing is free the producers have to be compensated or they won't produce it.

Food stamp fraud has been around since the programs existence. Most people lie on the application in saying that they don't eat and prepare food with others in their household, this makes it where they can all get their own food stamp account without others incomes being considered. There are some rules to prevent this for family members in some cases, but its a big problem. People have always sold their food stamps for less than face value as well.

Would this not be a classic "slippery slope" argument? Are you saying all ... or none? I see no problem discussing this program independent of others.

And fwiw I agree with you that schools should be sharply limited in what sugary crap they get to sell. In the immortal words of Col. "Bat" Guano, I might have to answer to the Coca-Cola Company! cn

everyone should be so lucky as to know starvation.
Starvation? That's nothing imo.
Have you ever seen or known a man who worked his entire life away from his family, to care for his family, and pay for everyone elses "starvation", and instead of being able to enjoy the prospers he slaved for, ended up dieing first?

Socialism is a society killer, but kindness is not. They are two completely separate entities and function as so. Take away welfare, food stamps, etc, there will still be charitable donations, and better yet, hungry men tend to want to work.

I remember getting free lunch and buying ice cream sandwiches too, 30 cents each! Those were the days, and in middle school my mom would sometimes give me a couple bucks to get something from the snack line, our fries were booooooooooomb!

It all comes down to how much income the parents has, politics, some people just spoil their kids even if they're poor, shouldn't punish the rest that really do need it.

most people on food stamps do work, smarty.

show me how better things were for the hungry before social safety net programs. the stats should pan out, that seems to be what you're arguing.
