Free school lunch for public schools.

So this is more of a local issue, but I would like to hear your opinions. We all know that families that are below a certain income level are eligible to get free school lunch. Kids are assigned a pin number when they order food like an id system. They have noticed that the kids getting free lunch are spending money on other items like ice-cream & cookies etc. the price of these extra items are generally adding up to more then the price of the lunch itself.


So why do they get free lunch?

because the gays.

All I can tell you is if it were not for free lunch , I probably would have starved to death . It really sucks being poor and having no food in your house as a kid . Later on I learned about trash cans outside McDonalds and dumpsters behind other restaraunts that contained food . No child should have to live that way . So what if a few kids who don't need the free food get it , I'm sure there are some really poor , hungry children that at least have food to eat while at school .

Because a politician somewhere connected with the free food program, is selling a larger food contract to a supplier and getting something in return. Or, the person in charge of the food program, thinks its good to give kids free food, that way when they grow up they'll be used to being handed food, and will expect it. All the while other people are paying for this "free food" which their child is not eligible for, because their parents are to earning too much money to pay those taxes.

P.S. there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Didn't you having to fight for food ensure your never going to be in that position again? Because you know first hand what it is to go hungry. I went hungry a lot in college, and that hunger is what made me want to kick fucking ass. I know I could make it so I would eat what I want, when I want. Is that what happened with you. If so, why would you want to take away that drive from others?

Some of those starving kids who otherwise wouldn't eat might even grow up and have their own bussinesses and maybe even employ others providing jobs so they can feed their families with decent pays like I do today . I will never forget being 7 years old and crying because I was so hungry and wondering why we had no food at home and other people did . A child does not fully understand these things , I used to think it was because I was bad in some way and thats also why at Christmas I never got any presents . Oh and by the way some of also pay taxes too .

The bottom line is its not your responsibility to change that. I feel people are stronger for their efforts and losses. Without them we are nothing. You cannot appreciate the good in life if you have nothing bad to compare it too. Ying and Yang. The balance. Hand outs make for weak dependent people. America is the fattest nation on earth. We have very few starving people. Nigerians would laugh in your face if you told them yours or my story of hunger. Its all perspective, and we Americans are quickly loosing ours.

School is only part of the time . I had plenty of time to starve on weekends , all summer long and during school vacations just to make sure I would never forget . By College age feeding yourself or being able to is much different than grammar school age children starving . I never went to high school , I went out and got jobs to feed myself so I would never have to starve again . A meel provided at school does not do anything but feed hungry children .

everyone should be so lucky as to know starvation.

why? god fobid they spend their allowances on their snacks rather than for their lunch. lemme guess, the 1 dollar cost per lunch profided by the school is too hefty on the tax payer? its probably even cheaper considering its school lunch food.

school lunches around here are like $2.25 a day or so..

My elementary school son says most kids getting free lunches use money to buy lot's of cookies and desserts.

It should be up to the schools to design their own program, if the parents want to pay extra property tax to buy all the kids lunches then that should be up to them to do so. A lot of school supplies are provided by the taxpayers (books,desks, teachers,sports equipment etc....). Its not going to teach the kids that they don't have to work for their food, that's a ridiculous argument. It isn't the kids responsibility to feed themselves.

The point is they are gifted free lunch because their money should be spent else where like rent or food for the house. If they are spending the money on other things they shouldn't get the break. Every citizen's school child should get a free lunch at this rate.
