Flush rant

-Less of these nutrients present when combusting the material for consumption would support the idea presented of a more pleasant smoke (Inhaling higher levels of super heated NPK ect. < Inhaling diminished or lower levels of NPK )

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this only apply to the fan leaves? I mean, flowers don't store nutes right, so I guess a flush may make your fans smoke smoother? Sounds like a winner to me ;)

There was a time (many moons ago) when I used "Chemical Nutes". Way back when, before it was called "Jack's Classic", it was owned by a different company (Peters) and it was called "Peters All-Purpose, 20-20-20". This had to be 20 or more years ago, about the time I found the Internet. I found that people were reccomending flushing - for the same reasons they state today.

Well, I tried it once and it seemed a little traumatic. I did some research and came up with the simple concept of "Over Watering". The idea is pure simplicity - just water until you get 20-25% run-off. What this does is provide a "Perpetual Mini-flush". I tend to use Organics these days and have reduced the over watering down to about 15-20%. I firmly believe that the perpetual mini-flush idea is the only good reason why we are incouraged to get a substancial amount of run-off.

So, this is my point: if you're watering to the point of getting a good amount of run-off on a regular basis - there is no need for a big time flush - because the stuff you want to flush is already gone.

I have always felt the a person should always flush unless they don't want to. If they don't want to flush then their plants will still be there and if they flush then their plants will be there too.

I flush and don't flush depending on how i feel about flushing and not flushing. Sometimes I will go a whole day thinking about flushing, and not flushing, until my head hurts and I have to go to a chat room and ask the question that has been burning in my mind for a very long time. Should I flush or not flush?

I've never understood why people think their plants store nutrients in the form of NPK.
Leaves fade from the death of the Chlorophyll.
When we feed our plants we are feeding the chlorophyll and the process of photosynthesis transforms these into simply compounds that the plants use to grow. This is what the plants stores not the nutrients we feed.

The only thing I've learned is obviously no one in this thread makes YouTube videos, because all those dudes flush.....

Smart-ass comment aside, I am actually surprised this has been pretty one-sided so far. I would genuinely like to know why people who make their living from growing continue this practice, it does seem kinda nonsensical from a beginners perspective.

Yep it's true if you don't flood your plants root systems with dissolved salts in the form of synthetic nutrients in the first place, "flushing" is never needed...then it's just called watering your plants as normal. If you give your plants everything they need in the mix before the root ball touches it then all you'll need to give them is water & maybe an occasional dose of soluble cal/mag if you avoid using city tap water & use RO or distilled water sources. This is really the main difference between organic growing and every other method: if you use nutes then you'll need to rinse the root system off every so often and especially in the final weeks before harvest but if you rely on soil microbes & fungi to feed your plant then all you need to do is keep the soil hydrated with a clean water source....no flushing required. The idea is not to starve the plant at the finish line but if you don't get those dissolved salts & chemicals out of the root zone your weed will taste funny no matter how well it is cured.
Nice. Lets switch it to an organic vs. argument. Maybe you should quit smoking your roots.

If its yellow let it mellow, if its brown, flush it down.

Then wipe.

:wall: sugar leaves that potentially make up a reasonable % of the smoked product (depending how you trim) would be part of this equation but i guess you could smoke your fan leaves too what ever floats your boat man ;). I came here to see if anyone else had some good counter arguments against flushing and i got my answer.

So all passive aggressive dick measuring aside flush or don't flush it's your bud

This.
It's simple. If you over-fertilize through flower and get phosphorus burn, you should flush. If you just supply what the plants can use, then there is no need to flush. KISS.
This too. As mentioned earlier, only flush to correct an imbalance.

Nitrates and nitrites are two types of carcinogens found in tobacco smoke. The industry has a set standard of detectable levels. The levels can be manipulated by flushing.

The truth will rise to the surface as OUR industry continues to grow.
