Fishing

Well, let's just say that I live in an area where our summers are on the opposite end of the spectrum of Canada's winters. Barely ever snows down here and when it does it rarely sticks. To me, those shacks, let alone a working pub, is a novelty. I'd love to visit up north and see/do things like that. Very cool to me.

Driving on ice just never seemed like a very good idea to me.

And I head south to fish on a beach lol. I don’t do much ice fishing other than drill a hole, drop a herring, and watch it from the living room window lol. I do head out once or twice with my pop up ice tent for pike, it’s really cool watching a big pike attack. Being dark in the tent you can see down 15-20 feet, really cool. But a bar would be even cooler lol.

Went freezer filling this weekend.
Hooked up a couple of monster halibut - the big breeders are always female so we let them go, did keep half a dozen up to around 65 lbs.

King (Chinook) and Silver (Coho) were off the hook though - the big guy on top of that 150 qt cooler went 42 lbs.

AWFULLY expensive GAMBLE, eh? Gotta pay BIG $$ TO get those out of the lake, and FINES, I believe... Not to mention the damaged / ruined PRICEY toys!

I do drive on my lake but only when it gets over 16” and only if the conditions are right. Last year was the first in about 5 that I was confident it was safe but there is always a risk, sometimes risk is fun ;). But yes I’ve seen whole families wiped out by being foolish and taking to much for granted. If you zoom in they are about 20’ from open water ..... idiots :(. I watched them for an hour just waiting to call 9119446E69F-DE01-4E1D-8432-3A46E983969D.jpeg

You can't fix stupid. There's a lake near me that has a hydro electric plant. The spillway from the plant rarely ices over because of the moving water. When it does freeze, you can bet someone that knows all this information, will go through over there, even trucks. Whatcha gonna do?
