First time grower. Harvest time opinions

Thanks.

ive noticed my fear of training methods. I’m afraid to damage it to where it hermies, or is un growable. I have heard people say to use pipe cleaners and tooth picks as a tie down for a lst training.
Your concern is smart but healthy plants of "Solid Genitics" can handle our training of the plant. I've had very little issues with herm and 95% were genetic related when I did.
Use what you have to tie down.

Good job on your first grow you need at least 3 or 4 more weeks.
thanks. I got 3 others starting so hopefully I can gain all the training knowledge I need before this gorilla glue plant is ready to train lol. I want it bushy and to produce a good amount lol

The lankiness is from lack of light.

Start thinking about getting better lighting .
Look at Quantums, CMH , cob rigs.
If you are really serious about growing your own meds , the lighting is the core of your grow. That plant could have been so much more .... it’s a learning thing. But congrats on finishing it tho.

I’ve got a better light now. For the first 5-6 weeks of the plants life I had one of those crappy plant lights bulbs from Walmart lol. Those ones that are like 3.88 or whatever lol. Now I’ve got an actual plant light led. Also I think I may have had the plant way to far from lights as well.

What exactly is FIM?
FIM is the moronic acronym that somehow growers have accepted without replacing it with a better term: it stands for Fuck I Missed, and refers to the pinching the top, but not getting it all. If you do it right (meaning correctly wrong) you’ll end up with four tops instead of one. It’s a misnomer also because you’re really getting only two and two that already exist, they just closer together nodes than typical with a good fimming. And you have to be a little lucky because it doesn’t always work.

My dear friend @Silky_smooth1 on instagram is the queen of botanical bondage. She says top as early as the third node, because at that age the plant recovers more quickly than at five nodes. She’ll flux a baby so that in 3-4 weeks she has 16 or more tops on a flat plant only 3” tall. Then sit back and watch the colas fill in. See her also on growdiaries.com @Silky_smooth She’s a cannabis genius

I generally don’t even top unless they grow too tall, and then I’ll supercrop. But I light from the sides not the top, so I don’t have standard canopy issues.
Keep learning and have fun! Enjoy that harvest!

Starting simple with training is easy. The main goals in training a plant are to control growth, and maximize canopy. Cannabis plants are very resilient and can take a good bit of abuse if you give them good conditions to live in and recover afterward.

If you have 3 seedlings starting you could do different training on each to see what happens. I like to use a combination of techniques to shape plants when I train them. I will usually use LST, and tie branches down to the edge of my pots to keep them where I want them to grow. This allows us to build a strong set of lower branches which will help support our buds on top when they start. LST is also a good way to spread the plant out horizontally to control the level of the canopy which allows you to keep the light closer and have more buds sites getting the light. As you spread the plant out more side branches will get light and reach up to become good bud sites.

I also use topping to create more bud sites and control size/growth. When you top a plant, or a branch it will typically grow 2 new branches or tops from the previous node. So you can take a seedling and top it and it will have 2 tops after that point. When you top it, the other side branches will also usually push out more since you stopped the vertical growth. Once it recovers and the tops grow up a couple more nodes, you can top those, and then you have 4 main tops, and your side branches might be almost equal to your main tops. Do this one more time and you have 8 main tops, and 4-8 side branch tops as well that you can top and split if you want, or just let them grow depending on your space and light penetration. All through this is when I would use the LST to control the direction and height of the side branch growth, and even the main tops if necessary. My whole goal is to have an EVEN canopy with many bud sites.

Hope that helps some.

One main question i do have about harvesting is.., can i do a split harvest. Like cut the top cola and a few inches below and then let the rest grow. Or would that be too stressful for the plant to recover from?

[I do that all the time it won’t stress the plant to much it’ll just open up more light for the lower branches ... but don’t rush it

Ok cool. Wasn’t truly sure. Figured clip tip and let the lower areas get more light but was afraid it could mess with the current smaller buds

It won't be a lot but mate it'll be some of the best stuff you've ever had, partly because you grew it and partly because that's some high quality nug you got there..

Let it ride ... not even close , still needs weight and maturity. 2 weeks easy.
You can’t really “ over harvest “ ( letting it go until it finishes / ripens ) by counting time or weeks ..... but you can take a plant TOO EARLY .

My 2¢ ..... run them as usual at least another 2 weeks THEN DROP LIGHT CYCLE TO 10/14 ..... it’s a way to trick the plant into thinking winter is hot on its ass. Plant readies itself to finish.
