First time grower. Harvest time opinions

Hey all thankfully there’s others out there that have grown before and others are willing to help others still. But since I’m a first time grower I’m confused in best way to tell when a plant is ready. I’ve heard looking at trichs help but not always the most accurate and then I’ve heard look at the pistol colors and again been told not the most accurate. I’m in week 9 of flowering this gorgeous plant and have no idea what strain just that it’s an indica. Can anyone give me an opinion on how much longer I should let her stay in flowering before harvest? Thanks

Looks more on the sativa side or a reveg with the odd leaf pattern. From what I can see it should be ready to harvest if not very soon.

I don't look at trichs at all but just go by the pistols. If the pistols changed from white to reddish brown and you see the calyx swollen, usually they are about ready. 9 weeks is usually a safe number for an average. I would give her the chop soon, dry, trim and enjoy.

didn’t re-veg no light leak and no one goes into flower room during dark . Part is due to the original weak light I had. It grew odd at beginning and straightened out. It’s only got the 5 leaves in the fan leaves. I did run into the issue of my fan periodically shutting off and got that replaced. And also got a much newer more powerful light. Only light that gets into flower room is the green light that’s there for a work light. Also had a massive cold snap kick in faster then normal and it cooled off the grow room more then I Ment for it too. But didn’t drop more then 6°

I can’t deny it may have gone hermie. It had some growing medium issues at the beginning. Got a bad bag of fox farms dirt that had lots of centipedes in it. It’s also an all organic plant too. Some of the odd leave look could also be from when top cola got so heavy it shifted around the props and fell slightly. The way I see it is first plant looks good. What can I loose? I’m gaining all this experience so plant 2 will have a better chance. I’ll try and get a better pic tonight when lights do turn in. That’s about 10 hours from now

I know at one point it had some nutrient/ water issues you can see the slight discoloration on one of the leaves. also I guess I should point out that im using one of those purplish grow lights and for those pics I turned my flash on from camera. I do have the white hairs starting to turn red/amber. sorry for so many responses.im excited to see how this first grown turns out since its an unknown seed lol

I usually go as long as I can wait, but if they are healthy keep goin. Once in a while the leaves die off or they start to rot I say kill them . Yours look like they got at least 2 weeks or 3 for little extra ripeness.

I’ve had to pull a few that started to die off or where others started to grow over bud sites and clipped those other then that it hasn’t had any issues. I guess I’m just being impatient lol. I’ll still post more pics tonight

Looks great, you couldn't even tell it's grown by a first timer. Great job.
Thanks man. A lot of people are saying the same. You can really tell if I showed the plant. Tall and lanky lol. No training at all. But got 2 more in sprouting now and these will have some sort of training done

Im topping/FIM/pinching/LST by week 4 from seed and with clones I'm FIM on the mother plant one week before taking cuts so ASAP...

I think you'll find most people start messing with the plant once they have about 4 to 5 nodes, the least stressful way is simple LST where you bend the main stem over and tie it to the side of the pot or hold it down with a stake, it doesn't slow down growth but it does help the plant grow into a bushier shape , and the other benefit of it is you can start it very early. You could even start before they get to their 4th node.

As for the harvest window, all you need to get through your first grow is at this site, and this page in particular is just the ticket for clarifying all your harvest window questions...

Looks like a nice plant, cheers. I would definitely say about 14ish days honestly. That plant is just now starting to really ripen.

Determining maturity isn't about one single factor, its about watching ALL the signs the plant is giving you. As you grow more plants you will begin to be able to read those signs, and understand what point your plant is at.

FIRST the stigma(pistils) will turn red and begin to actually shrink/shrivel back towards the buds. THEN the bracts(calyxs) will begin to fatten up internally. The buds won't be appearing to grow much outwardly at this point but will be adding density and weight still. This is the point I believe your plant is starting. I've watched strong stems bend over in just a couple days during this period from the added mass.

FINALLY after about 2ish weeks AFTER the stigma have turned then you can look at trichomes on the actual buds and determine your final harvest point.

There are plenty of variables that can alter time periods, but for the most part cannabis plants follow pretty consistent patterns of growth and ripening.

It is VERY EASY to harvest a plant too early and loose out on flavor, smell, yield, and overall quality.

It is VERY HARD to over ripen a plant. I have never seen someone accidentally do it without ignoring plants for WEEKS. The best smoke comes from fully ripened healthy plants.

Thanks I’ve been leaning towards waiting a week or 2 on harvest. Trying to learn what I can quick from this 1 plant since I just started gorilla glue plant from seed lol

Glad to help, I literally laid out the guidelines for you in that last post, if you watch the plant you will be able to see the signs I mentioned. In about 10 days take some more pictures and post them and we can watch the progress.

You got a couple wks. 2 or 3 maybe. Def looks more sativa leaning than indica. Nice, for a first time!
Thanks.

ive noticed my fear of training methods. I’m afraid to damage it to where it hermies, or is un growable. I have heard people say to use pipe cleaners and tooth picks as a tie down for a lst training.
