hello all this is my grow journal i am a noob this is my first grow. i am growing in my moms house so im trying to be as stealth as possible because she cant know a thing plus theres 4 other people living in my house so i have to sneak around a bit i have all the equipment to do what i need to at first i was going to go wit DWC till i found out about the hempy bucket which i find so freaking marvelous all you need is a bucket drill a hole 2" above the bottom of the bucket and fill with perlite and vermaculite 3:1 ratio. the bucket CANNOT have holes on the bottom of it. so thats what im using. i have 2 42w cfl's with reflectors but i am going to home depot today and buying more lights probably 2 more 42w cfl's. i am growing 4 papaya plants hoping for 4 females lol i feel pretty good about it. my grow space is tiny i have a cabinet thats 2'w 1.5'D 3'H so my plants cant be very tall and i cant fit many in there but im hoping that i can fit 4 in there. i will be using LST and topping the plants to keep height to a minimum that way i can veg a little longer have a bigger plant but the height to a minimum. i still need a few supplies like ona and nutes will be going to home depot today see what i can find. the inside of my cabinet has no reflective anything so the light shines right thru it not very stealth so i will line the inside of the cabinet with black trash bags cut to fit. anyways heres what ive done so far

May 16 2007

Day 1 of papaya grow 4 plants total cfl grow throughout 2 42w cfl’s with reflectors. Growing in perlite vermiculite mixture 3:1. hempy bucket grow. Small cabinet 3sqft of total space.

Germinating 4 seeds right now in a cup of water with a black cover.

May 17

2 out of 4 seeds germinated planted them in rockwool cubes and put them inside already watered medium

yesterday i still didnt see the other 2 seeds sprout so i checked the rockwool cube and noticed that they looked the same as when i put them in the cubes i think it was due to too much water because the other 2 sprouts had dryer rockwool cubes and sprouted just fine so i threw the seeds out since they were not going to grow and i put 2 citral seeds in there after shaking the water out of those cubes so now i have 2 papaya sprouts and 2 citral seeds just planted hopefully they sprout in the next week.

thanks roseman i already read it in another post lol. today is may 23 2007 i checked my plants and since the 2 papaya sprouted i havent seen any difference in growth the taller one of the two looks a little sad the two round leaves are arched down. i think its due to the heat and no ventilation i touched the leaves but they dont feel crispy i have a 23w cfl like an inch away and a few more cfl's very close to the plant i wasnt sure if it was too close because the plant is very small still my temps get up to 93f and humidity up to like 70rh my cabinet is lined with black plastic bags that i have glued in there i think the bags are holding too much heat and i have yet to install pc fans in there. so i think the heat is making my plants uncomfortable. i put the cfl's really close because i didnt want the plants to stretch. i have pics i will upload them soon as i get them on my computer

I applaud you, you've done your homework (research and study)

You can put a CFL up to 85 watts up to two inches away, per bulb, per plant.
93 F is approaching the limit, but 93 won't kill them. It gets much hotter in Mexico or Afganastan for sure.
I suggest that you do need some moving air, some circulation but yu are on the right track. Any small fan would help alot.
God Luck, let me know if I can help,

may 24th. out of the two plants one is much bigger than the other idk why but oh well. the bigger one of the two seems to be growing the other seems to stay the same. the leaves got bigger and opened up some. i watered them today with miracle grow all purpose nutes probably used half a gallon of water after i tested the soil with my finger to see if it felt dry and to see if there was any water at the bottom of the rez there wasnt any so i watered them lets see if this makes them grow some more. i will post pics when i get some noticeable growth. rooms have come out of the rockwool cube so the plants can start taking advantage of the rez i will keep you all posted on my progress with pics

today is may 25th i have some pics posted up. the runt of the two is still a runt as you can see in the pics the other one is doing pretty good. i did notice that the perlite turned green. it happend cause the miracle grow reacted with the light. all i did was mix it up some more so the green didnt show i guess it will be alright it wasnt like it was algae. im going away for a day or two ill be back on tuesday and ill post pics up then cant wait to see what they look like by tuesday Oh and the two citral seeds i planted a few days ago seem to be doing well no sprouts yet but when i checked the cubes i seen one of them is about to sprout in another day or two the other one isnt too far behind. i drilled two holes in the back of my cabinet so that temps dont get insane yesterday my temps went up to 97f i hope that the holes help keep it some what cooler and i will be installing pc fans inside those to holes for exhaust i will drill one more hole put a pc fan in it and use that for intake.

today is may 29th the plants seem to be doing good. but the freaking miracle grow is turning my medium green and its freaky looking im not sure if its algae or what i really hope it isnt. if any of you guys can tell from the pics let me know.

one plant out of the bunch is really shinning its growing really fast i just hope it isnt male that would suck soo bad. the citral i planted only one sprouted im not sure what happend with the other one so i put a bag seed in its place lets see if that on sprouts so right now i have 3 plants that broke soil and one i am waiting on. so far its been like 11 days since i planted the seeds.

watered the plants yesterday thinking about stopping with the nutes since its turning my medium green

hello today is may 31st. i posted some pics from 2 days ago and you can see how fast my biggest plant is growing. so far i have 2 papaya 1 citral and 1 bagseed all of them have broke ground and are doing good except for the small papaya the leaves got a little burnt at the tips i think it was due to the nutes because some of the water landed on the leaves but the plant still looks strong no drooping of the leaves or anything else besided the brown tips. the citral is doing good i just watered the plants yesterday with plain water i stopped using the nutes because it was turning my medium green and idk if its algae or just green perlite so im tryna flush it out with plain water. so far not many people have said anything in my grow journal. :(

today i am going to home depot because i have 2 more 23w cfl's but need sockets for them right now i have 2 23w cfl's and 2 42w cfl's in my cabinet they seem to be doing the job but with 2 more lights i can get even better results.

question. i want to clone my plants but i do not want to put them in the same pot because i have the long pot so i put 2 plants on each side of the pot i am afraid to put more than 2 in there because of the roots and the amount of water available to the plants. i do not have another cabinet to put clones in but i do have a shelf in my current cabinet which i guess i can keep the clones but they wouldnt recieve any light so i am afraid that they will die on me before i can tell which of the mothers is female i am hoping to replace males with female clones.

the first pic is of a bagseed and the second pic is of citral the 3rd pic is my papaya that is stunted and has burnt leaves. believe it or not that plant has 3 weeks since i planted it the leaves are wrinkled looking and it is growing but EXTREMELY SLOW im not sure what is going on with that plant but i would appreciate any help. my biggest plant which is the last pic is a papaya as well and was planted about 3 weeks ago. the bottom leaves are brown at the tips bottom leaves are turning yellow and curling downward any ideas? i think its nutrient defficiency since ive watered regularly with regular water and it was healthy till the past few days. comments would be greatly appreciated

Its good you stopped the nutes. its too early to feed them any thing anyway. You should wait till the third week to give em anything.

Hey thedutchie13, First, I wanna say....you da man! I applaud you for using this method that GraF was nice enough to post here. I think it rocks, and should be a extremely reliable way of growing.

I assume you are watering every day? Can you get better nutes maybe?
Do you water around the edges, or right through the plant?

It is not too soon for nutes, this is not soil with built in nutes.

What size pot are you using, and how high up is the hole, 2 inches?
A larger pot would require adjusting where the hole is located.
Peace

yes the hole is exactly 2 inches up from the bottom. right now i only have 2 exhaust fans they are regular pc fans at night i leave the door open to my cabinet since the lights are on so i can have good ventilation during the day it gets hot in my house and i am not home so i have the cabinet door closed. as far as nutes i havent used any since the first 2 waterings. i am watering every 2 days and since i am using plain water i water right through the plant but make sure to shake the leaves off excess water. i will start using nutes on my next watering in like 2 days or so. the pots i am using its a long tray im not sure of how many gallons it holds but i put 2 plants in each pot one on each end of the pot. i transplanted my biggest plant the papaya to an actual gallon that i cut up i put a hole 2 inches above the bottom of the gallon i am planning on transplanting all my plants to actuall gallons that i will cut up just so i can water them individually. i will be installing another fan this one for intake this will be a pc fan as well.
