First grow - bag seed x8 - CFL - 4x4x4 cab or 3x3x3

is there something wrong with this bulb? says 1000watt HPS...going as cheap as i can as far as hood ballast and lamp...

That one is dimmable. I've been recommending it as it seems like a great deal - who knows what quality the ballast is, but I can't imagine it being worse than any of the other cheap ballasts.

wjhy dont u just continue to use what you have and put a few bucks a week away for next harvest. then when u get this grow harvested, sell a bag to finish off your fund and then get equiped so you can get the right stuff. i totally understand budget but sometimes its better to wait and spend the extra few bucks on quality.

check out the HTG supply website or even some local hydro stores may have something decent thats used. craigslist is a goood place to look too.

Definitely check craigslist first. You can find all kinds of crazy amazing deals on there.

just be carefull on craigslist, i just seen a add that claimed a landlord found 4 marijuanna cultivation books and a 1000w "marijuanna" grow light. seems a bit scetchy

do i need to start flower soon? i wana wait as long as possible for the smallest to grow up. also, im thinking of starting flower to figure out whos female so i can mother...then get rid of the males, go back into veg, and then start a perpetual. then i will either HAVE to get a flower light and cab, or i could block off a small section of the current cab for the mothers...

what yalls think?

once you flower its best to just let em finish in my opinion. if your going to set up a perpetual i HIGHLY suggest ordering a few beans from a reputable breeder. attitude seed bank has a huge promo coming up in a few days just gotts spend like 40 bucks and you get 7 free fem seeds so you can walk out with over a dozen fem seeds for around 60 bucks.

then yuou can plant one bean and mother it, its fem so your almost 100% sure its going to be female and you can clone off that mother for the perpetual, just take a cutting every week or 2 weeks or whatever intreval you want between harvests, eventually you will have a perpetual of a good quality strain although bagseed can be great too, once you put em into flower to sex then back into veg they grow all fucked up for like a month before they finally get back on a normal track. i guess it all depends on how much time you want to spend on a single grow.

well...im not so pressed for time. and i dont want to order any beans. i mean i WANT to, but am not allowed. wife says. actually tried once, they denied my payment and then the card company called her and told her someone stole her card and tried to order something from another country...it was actually the attitude too lol. i got a good laugh, then told her what i did, then she laughed, then she yelled. lol. happens.

once the perpetual gets started though, endless supply!

well if you cant order beans then yeah probally revegging, remember your plants will sex in veg eventually (i think) from what i read once they sexually mature them little white hairs will start popping up

can always clone for sex too, just take a clone from each plant, label them and let em root. once they root chuck em in 12/12 till you see signs of sex, then you can chuck out the males and take it from there

does one absolutely need rooting gel or whatever? just curious. i moved my whole cab last night. had to take it apart to move it to another part of the basement. THAT was fun (naht). anyway all done now and its better off for it. much stealthier...lol. kinda.

so what about me building another SMALLER cab for vegging...and using the current cab for flower? eventually i can get a HID light for the 3x3x3, 400 watt or so, and i have the materials now to build a 2x2x2 cab...2 feet is kinda small for vegging tho...isnt it? is the bigger one too small for flowering?

2x2x2 would be a great small veg cab. One of my veg cabs is 1.2x1.2x2 and works great - easily enough room to feed a 3x3x3 flower cab with clones/small seed plants.

hmmm im liking this idea...mainly cause i dont necessarily have to spend any money...

could assemble the whole thing with stuff i have already, then get more cfls...skip the HID for the first round at least...

rooting gel?

Gel or powder doesn't really matter - they all work. You can root without them but it's a bit harder and the stuff is cheap and lasts forever. I've had the same tiny thing of rooting powder for 5 years and I assume it will last me another 10.

question about the smaller sized veggin cab...should i use like smaller 1 gallon or so pots/bags in the smaller veg cab and then step up to the 3gal pots/bags for flower? that would make sense i just dont know how small they can/should be for vegging...??

Depends on how you are growing. With chem nutes/bottled organics you can away with tiny tiny pots in which case I'd say start with small pots and stay with them. If you are going organic amendments you need the extra soil and it doesn't help you as much to provide it only when entering flower. You want to go into flower with your complete root mass so I might recommend starting them in veg in smaller containers and them bumping the plants up 1 week prior to flower - give them at least some time to spread their roots before flipping.

yeah i dig the 90 to 100 range. not like rooting powder or gel is THAT expensive...gas was sayin it will last a long ass time too.

so next step is getting the 2by cube assembled. ALMOST free. need to get hinges and a locking clasp. other than that i have the insulation and even bricks for heat retention. i will need to get more cfls tho. i need more for flower anyway, so i will probably end up getting...

2-4 packs of 23watt 2700k bulbs 20 bucks
2 clamp light fixtures 12 bucks
5 y splitters 10 bucks

this will set me up with 368 watts total in the flower cab with a 3 to 1 ratio of 2700k to 6500k and 184 watts total in the veg cab all in the 6500k spectrum. will probably switch out ONE or TWO of the 2700k's from the flower cab for 6500k's from the veg cab so the wattages will stay the same but the ratio will be 1 to 3 6500k in the veg cab and a tiny bit less, but reversed, in the flower cab...

enough wattage? in the flower cab i still may end up getting the giant 2700k bulbs at some point, adding them in as a 5th fixture in the center of the 4 existing...those big ass bulbs are 65 true watts each (supposedly 300 watt equiv.) so that would add a whopping 260 watts to the flower cab, meaning i could potentially re-appropriate some of the smaller bulbs/fixture for the veg cab...

just finished the exterior of the new cab. got hinges, lock, doors, all the exterior complete. going to do some interior work soon.

the plants are doing well. they have grown another inch since last pics (i measured this time lol)

should i put them into flower soon to see who's female? how soon after changing to 12/12 do i need to switch to bloom nutes?

ill do a pic update in a bit. going to do a bit of interior decorating on the new cab. pics of that as well.
