Yup. I do that all the time too. I hand water with a turkey baster and need to see what I'm doing with old eyes and shaky hands. If it's in the way down low it's gone.

Case in point: IN NO WAY do these plants need any defoliation, i think we all agree. But, a day after this pic the biggest fan leaves made it hard to water the coco without wetting those leaves:

I pulled the biggest 2 leaves from each plant & now it's way easier to water them.

I do the same when needed. Whatever makes life easier.
