So there is a way to do this without buying a portable ac? I am Runnin low on funds butreally need to get this tent shut and at the right temps.

hey bro.........maybe u dont want the advice but u should be rockin a fan on the floor in the opposite dirrection of the fan at canopy level........and another at the ceiling same dirrection as the floor
I'm always open to advice! The fan on the floor that oscillates is actually blowing in the same direction as the canopy one, so when lights turn back on I might have a little re-arranging party.

Thanks for that Woody. :)

What's the ambient temperature in the room your tent is in?

You are dishing some good stuff here Woody, or so it seems to me.

The "vortex" pattern that you suggest is smart.

I only have one fan in my 5'X5' tent, but my lamp is ducted and
I am near the coast, so I am cool heat-wise.

I kinda lucked into a something similar to what you suggest, and
I thought that I might share the idea, to see if it survives scrutiny. :0)

I positioned my fan against the side of the tent, in the middle of one
of the sides, pointed slightly downward, so that it blows along that side
of the tent.

This makes air swirl down the sides of the tent, and all of the 36 plants
of my SOG get fresh air. Once the rotater broke I had to come up with
a way to avoid just always hitting one area of plants.

It is a full sized room fan, 16" I think, so I have strong airflow.

Onward and upward,

JD

i checked your grow......... u definately need a fan on the floor

Thanks for looking.

All of the tops move with the air movement that I get now.

I am sure that I will want more air under the canopy as they
get larger....heck, yeah, I am sure that it would be good now.

I tried like hell to get a smaller rotating fan, but only for shitty
little clip-ons...and they run $30.

I will think about how to do this. I have 36 2 gallon smart pots
in that tent....zero floor space left. I hung the one big fan, and so
could hang another, smaller, fan lower down I suppose.

I will likely end up just sitting a small fan on the block tops so
that it blows under the canopy....and will just reposition it at
intervals.

Take care,

JD

So i think that i might be able to vent my hot air exhaust into my air conditioners return air intake instead of my room. Good idea or will this make my ac think it's really hot in my house and work too hard?

I was also thinking about getting to tie in a line off of my ac straight to my tent but idk about that because I rent and i don't know how many holes i should be cutting.

i was just fukn w u cause of the gnats..... an inside joke w myself........lol...fukd up i know......... u dont need a fan on the floor aint got no place to put it ........but later when it grows up and gets super thick in there it would be a real smart idea to hang one or a clip on.......... seen one guy use one of those shitty duct booster fans..............kinda crazy growing sog w all those different strains

Your AC unit reads the temp right at the thermostat, so your AC wouldn't think it's really hot in your house BUT it will have to work really hard to cool down the air it draws in from your tent. An AC unit basically works by taking air from the home, compressing it and blowing the hot air up and out of the unit outside.

About pulling cool air from your returns: Your ambient is 73. I would think that you wouldn't need more ventilation than a passive intake (open bottom vents in your tent) and a strong exhaust. It's just figuring out how to exhaust it. My problem with temps is partially due to growing in a closet with sliding double doors. Making it air tight so I could create negative pressure like I'm suggesting wasn't in the cards. I wasn't planning on having a forced intake when I set up my exhaust, but it didn't create a good enough air flow that would allow the heat to rise efficiently due to the excess of gaps.

I was in the same situation last year when I was renting a place. Didn't want to cut holes or anything. Where is the tent located? If you have a room you can devote to your tent, you could buy a cheap door to replace the existing, put the tent near the door and exhaust out of the room, and just put the old door back on when you move out. The downside to that is that it will have the same strain on your AC as your idea of exhausting into your intake since the heat will still end up going through it.

Shit, man :/

So my problems lie in the fact that i vent my hot air out of one of my bottom vents instead of the top ones? Also my grow is in a closet with similar sites to what you are describing so all of the hot air is just vented into the closet which makes the ambient in the closet rise I'm sure while I'm sleeping at night and the closet is shut. I am having a hard time figuring out how to vent the hot air out of the closet without it looking like a big duct laying through the floor in my room and out the door. The only walls i could cut into would be one that would vent into the ac return intake or the attic which covers 3 other apartments. I'm worried about somebody working I'm the attic at some point and discovering my exhaust up there. I am sort of between a rock and a hard place.

Well heat rises naturally, so having an exhaust near the floor wouldn't be very efficient at all.

Venting into a shared attic is pretty dangerous in my opinion. One faulty carbon filter and you're in jail. Remember: no sell. no smell. no tell. Best way of not getting caught.

If you're able to exhaust into your AC intake like you suggested, I think that would be your best bet. My concern earlier about straining your AC would be the same with all of your current options, so you might as well push that heat out directly. Just make sure you have your smell control in check. You know when that fan outside blows all that hot air up? Imagine getting a face full of that smelling like weed :eyesmoke:

This is true. I have no smell at the moment but it is a matter of time I'm sure. I think i might try the ac intake option. I am still worried about getting fresh air into the closet though.

I have a similar issue with my tent in my room.... I have a 250w hps in a 3'X1.7'X5' grow tent which is small so I dimmed my ballast to 75% and my temps are high top of tent 84f temp gauge on dwc bucket at canopy level 90f and they are doing fine. Mind you Im doing dwc and have no root issues in jesus name but my room temp is 79f because like you I live in apt and not able to exhaust my hot air out my room.

I just let it be and run my ac at 70f and exhaust in my room and let recycle it self. Since I notice I cant controll my heat issue I just made a homemade co2 generator. I run 18/6 when lights go off its like 75f in the tent until the lights come on I haven't really noticed any issues with growth.

So i ran the exhaust line straight into my ac return and i can finally close up the tent. It is stable at 84. I know it's still a little hot but i think the girls will be fine in there.

I get up to 84 occasionally and it does fine. From what I have heard, but not confirmed, is this can result in less dense buds.

I don't know for sure, mine seem fine, harvesting in a couple days and buds are pretty dense.
