Fire OG under PAR/PUR T5's 2nd Grow, Flowering Grow Journal

I've been using the GH grow and bloom base nutes. I don't like the bloom base ratio on it's own, but I can get it to a plethora of ratios with some generic bloom ferts I have to mix in, they have calcium and magnesium mixed in, and I haven't had to adjust ph in the last 4 months. These last two grows have been good with those and a sea kelp foliar spray. No deficiencies, no issues, but I have an overabundance of free time, and I'm still new at this. So I may be horribly failing to optimize my nutes. I really have no basis for comparison either; since nobody will ship me samples to try and the nearest hydro store they will ship to, is almost 50 miles away. I'm not about to spend an arm and a leg on something without a test drive, ya know?

Yeah I am lucky in that way, there are at least 7 hydro stores within 3 miles of me. I wonder if dyna gro would send me samples? I really think I want to go with them but would love to save some money while testing em out.

Same here, I want to try out something new. But I'll be damned if I'm going to spend 3x the amount on something that is the same or marginally better, or that just doesn't agree with me for some reason.

I think that Dyna Gro is actually cheeper then GH but I am not sure. I sent an email to DG to see if I could get some samples. Doubt it but its worth a try. Worst they can say is no right?

Indeed it is the worst that can happen. I'll have to check them out a bit more.

Yes, and not only price per bottle, but also in gallons of nute made due to the fact it's quite a bit more concentrated as well... Ugh sounding like I'm getting paid for this? lol...

I only use the grow base and bloom base from them. Then I use a bloom fert I found at the feed store to tweak my ratios in bloom. I'm still on my first bag after 2 grows with 30 gallons of soup, top off when needed, and rez changes every 1.5-2 weeks roughly; probably about 1 grow left in the bag, that's with 1000+ppm strength for most of it. I just busted into my second bag of grow base. They're both 2.2 lb bags, would you say it's comparable? The gh base has the major micronutrients too, so I never have to buy cal/mag and the like.

Edit: Sorry for the jacking of your journal jsamuel. Feel free to pm me trich, if sam doesn't want us cluttering up his thread.

Well, DG being liquid in a bottle- I believe will be a bit more mileage out of it... It's very complete with macros and micros, so you need nuttin else but the protekt (silica- much recommended for strong healthy plants as well as it's ability to smooth out the ph) and the mag-pro if your using hydro with r.o. water. This run I am trying it in inert soil for my moms (sunshine #4). I'm just starting off, but Homebrewer got some nice results that way, apparently I won't need the magpro since the ss4 i guess has a little goodies in it that negate the need for magpro according to HB. I'll guess Jsamuel is ok with a temporary dyna-hijack as he invited me over from another thread just to be polite to that person while we talked Dyna since he was interested himself ;)...

Ah, well if he invited you. lol I'm liking my hydroton so far, it's a bit of a bitch to clean, but i's good for a few grows. Plus, I can crush it up and mix it in as a soil aerator for next years outdoor once it's done, with no peat moss related ph issues. How have you felt about the silica additive? I haven't had issues with weak stalks, which is most of what I thought it was for.

First I have no problem with any converstation in my journal that reguards the healthy growing of our medicine. These converstations are how we all learn and become better grower. Hell I even have no problems with you guys posting pics of your own grows as well. Just so everyone in here knows :)

Second I emailed DG about samples. Here is what they told me

Hi

We send free samples to the various hydroponic stores to promote business for their store. Check with some of your local hydroponic stores.

Zina
Dyna-Gro

So KP, you should either email them and tell em there arent any stores closer then 50 miles to you, or if I find some down here I can let you know if you want to make a trip at some point. PM me if you want to discuss that since I dont let my location out much but you allready know it lol.

ill ship you the supplies to make you own chem nutes if your too lazy to go to lowes and get some miracle grow...

okay so im confused here whats all the hype with pre-packed nutes? i know if i was doing hydro and currently am( i should post a pic of DIY DWC straight 12/12 from clone in small coffee cans and 2in net pots)

all you need is a Micro, and your A&B macro nutes(bloom and veg) and maybe an additive depending on how often you like cleaning or buying airstones. i get the best results using the smallest amount of nutes in hydro, seriously, i only over feed (too like half dose) once i get to the first week of true flower.

too be honest i buy my veg nute which a micro and macro VEG nute. Miracle grow, one of the best Veg hydroponic fertilizers.

and for bloom just a cheap bottle of any bloom nute(the more concentrated the better) with some vitamins pills for micro. i use ionic

another thing is i use tap. tap is pretty sterile and will keep things clean not the best for the roots but not the worst, the worst is too have bad microbes growing and not know it. thats why hydro and microbes dont really go together, unless your doing hydrorganic(which i find to be the most airstone cleaning thing around) and inoculating weekly which can get pretty pricey.

as far as the silicate supp. i have heard good things about this and it is one their products i would be interested in adding to my hydro nutes.

its all salts brother, some are better than others, but for the most part their the same but in different concentrations and mixtures. the best way to get the best nutes is to figure out these concentrations on your own for various products and mix it up till you find the best mix.

if i couldnt get MG i would just use any brand thats cheap including dynagrow so long as its concentrated and has the right nutient ratio and some micro nutes.

just my little piece on the whole thing not knocking dyna grow or any brand i just think that most of these lineups are setup just to get you to buy more products than you need by separating the nutrients out.

I hear what your saying Poly and thats why I was going to try out DG since it is concentrated and isnt seperated out horriably. All the micro nutes are included in both the bloom and the grow and there arent any extra addons unless you are using R/O water. At least that is my understanding of it so far as I havent used it yet but have been doing alot of research on it. Since its my first hydro grow when I start it I want to make sure to start with something more simplified then AN for example. I dont see the point in 15 addons if I can find something that has it all in one.

exactly. i hope its some good shit because i too have been thinking of buying a bottle of the "grow" or veg or whatever they call it.lol

I will be making a grow journal when I do it. I also have a sample of Xnutrients grow, bloom and micro. Am thinking of running the same strain in 2 different DWC's and comparing the difference. Think that is worth a look since the Xnutes wont cost me anything unless I do their advanced mixtures?

Nah, thanks for the offer though. I'm not going anywhere for a while. I will have to email them though, thanks for the heads up.

It def helpd the stalks, but also helps vigorous growth by sealing the leaves against water loss/heat stress and making the plants undesireable to things like spider mites who will grind their teeth down on the silica and chose other plants instead. Additionally- it really helps to buffer the ph so it stays rock solid too...

I agree with alot you say, especially low feed levels. But Miracle gro has alot of ammoniacal nitrogen and that is not best for hydro. DG is just so cheap and easy for a premix nute, that's where the value is. And the fact you don't need any boosters or whatever cuz it's all in there already...
