That works well as long as your devices at home are not just uploading all of your internet content to some third party for automatic analyzation of all of your data to keep up their ability to attack you whenever and wherever you go online with constant spam that 'seems' organic.
you can't avoid some of that, but i consciously seek out how to turn off as much of it as possible, and run blockers that stop as much of it as possible

I guess I've just been online long enough to not pay attention to any of that crap. I've never understood how people make money off of advertising. Who clicks on the links?

I think of it as basically running in the background so much it nudges mood without people even realizing. Like the shit titled threads that are in constant rotations in the feeds of the websites you frequent.

My wife uses FB a lot. I've explained how they make their money, and she is alright with it. She talks back and forth with her friends all day.

I have an account, but never use it. They still may be tracking me anyway. But I have adblockerplus on all my devices, so never see ads except for this site (which I use via incognito)

how about texting? you can talk all day with your friends that way..i hate to break the news to you..they have her hook, line and sinker.

especially, with everything we know about Zuckerburg..? she can't walk away?

recall: how did she react when FB was down a few times recently? was she moody? constantly checking her phone or laptop to see if it was back?

She has a cell phone, but is not a big fan of texting. For the most part she uses her laptop looking up recipes and doing genealogy at the same time she is FB'ing. And I would guess about half of her FB time is spent gaming. I'm usually outside, so I don't really know how she reacted to FB being down.

She also watches those true crime dramas and Christmas movies, two things that I avoid at all costs. So even though her choices for killing time would not be mine, I still love her dearly.

try suggesting an FB time limit..she can do anything else online just not FB to see if she can do it. it's not that you don't love her; it's because you do.

you'll get pushback but i imagine you already have which is why we're taking about it.
