I must consider that his doing what he did might lead to the better long-term outcome for us the people.

It is daily more apparent that Republicans were gunning for the death of government by/for/of the people. They’re still trying, and their residual momentum tells me they pretty much had it in the bag when, out of left field — the bankruptcy artist snatched defeat from the jaws of tyranny.

It sounds even more plausible when you ad in the scotus leak forcing the courts hand before they were ready. If that hadn't happened, their red splash might have been just enough larger that they would hold the house and the senate...and that would be a very different animal.

Not even Putin could anticipate the scope of Trump's brash incompetence.

Putin still attained some of his goals: destabilize American society (stoking culture wars), corrupt liberal democracy's political engine (careful manipulation of misinformation), and divide the international community (sow doubt in old alliances through ignorance).

And, as Trump finally found a political party that resonated, Putin found his lever. And it was primed with defunded education, religious indignance, and latent bigotry.

I didn't want to live in Bush's America, and I don't want to live in Trump's. I understand the value of education and diversity - no matter how considerate or careful with my words I have to be.

Harrumph.

Are any of these poor southerners concerned about healthcare when they blindly cast their vote for Reps. who wave a flag in their face? The reps have no formulated policy alternatives to the Dems. They basically pick items from the most progressive wing of the Dem. agenda that probably won't see legislation and peddle that as fear tactics. It's all a "own the libs" game w/ them and no substance to what they are really for, only narrow minded people vote for what they are against and can't tell you what they are actually for. What about the meat and potatoes issues of running the country day to day?, they have shown to have no answers for that just win a seat on fire brand issues,no ,no, no and then what? Freedom caucus and MAGA proponents don't even know how to actually legislate.

They've internalized antidemocratic election denialism even among themselves. Donald's problem is he won't be around long enough to pull off a bull moose run for president, to screw the republicans. He could still run from his prison cell and that might be enough to screw them in 2024, it he tells his base the republicans betrayed him and them "sold out".

Donald's indictments, trials and convictions are coming long before the presidential primary and, in that time, there will be war inside the GOP as Donald freaks out, panics and thrashes around. The republicans had better hope Jack takes care of Donald for them, because he still owns a big chuck of the party base.

No surprise...The republican party is full of people with deep social and societal issues. This is just sick people expressing their sickness.
They have deep seated trust issues. They were raised by liars, taught lies, fed lies by the right wing media...Why would they believe anyone now?
Why would anyone expect them to tell the truth after being raised in a soup of constant lies?
Why would they support each other, when they don't believe in each other? When they know that they are liars, and that everyone else in their party is as well?
There can be no trust in those circumstances, and you can't have any kind of unity without trust.
So this is no surprise at all. In fact, any display of unity should be examined closely, as it will almost certainly be a Trojan horse of some kind.

They blame the quality of candidates for losing the last elections...I think they should look at the poor choices their leadership is making.
Trump has been a despicable low life conman piece of shit his entire life, and no reputable political party should have been willing to touch him.
The republicans not only touched him, they spooned with him...When they started getting insane people running for office because the insane choice they made for president endorsed them publicly, that should have been a warning to the party to dump him on the spot, they had TWO chances to impeach him, and move on, to repair the damage trump had already done. They ignored those opportunities, and continued to embrace the radical right agenda.
The quality of candidate is entirely dependent upon the quality of leadership...Lay the blame at the feet of those responsible.

The bit that amazes and frightens me is the evidence that continues to accumulate
that that man was not a cause but an effect of dark-side Republicanism.

So, despite himself, he did a useful thing imo.

They knew Trump could and would destroy them, he owned a base of 74 million morons and at least 30 million of the idiots would do whatever he commanded. Mitich knows the base are stupid and needs to be careful in dealing with Donald, however his indictments in Georgia and pending federal indictments should bring things to a head pretty soon and they will consume themselves with internal civil war. If Donald is indicted in Georgia, say in April, his trial would not be until November probably, plenty of time to take a bite out of the GOP. Would a Georgia trial judge muzzle Trump upon indictment as a condition of release?

We don't know that trump is going to be indicted in Georgia...We have no idea if trump is going to be indicted anywhere, for anything.
To be perfectly honest, i no longer care about him, or his fate. I am much more concerned that those in the house and the senate pay for their participation, and pay a high enough price to scare those entertaining similar plans into changing those plans.
Those two things are fairly dependent upon each other, though, i don't see how they can pursue or ignore one case without treating the other in the same fashion. Trump and his cohorts had to conspire to commit insurrection, charge one, charge all...which is about a 50/50 bet, as far as i can see.

Congressman George Santos (R-NY) has been facing a blizzard of scandals after he was discovered to have lied about nearly every detail of his personal history on the campaign trail, from his education to his work background to his claim of being descended from Holocaust refugees.

According to an investigation from Nashville's NewsChannel 5, Tennessee's GOP Rep. Andy Ogles, elected in the same cycle as Santos, may have pulled a similar con.

For starters, reported Phil Williams, Ogles has repeatedly claimed to be an "economist," but he has placed a block on his school records from Middle Tennessee State University, making it impossible to verify whether he even studied economics. "NewsChannel 5 Investigates checked and, back in 2002, Ogles' website claimed he had 'studied foreign policy and the constitution' at Western Kentucky University and Middle Tennessee State. There was no mention of economics. Western Kentucky says when he was there from fall of 1990 to fall of 1993, Ogles actually majored in English and Allied Language Arts." His 2009 résumé states he has a degree in international relations, minoring in psychology and English — again, no economics.

He did work at the Laffer Center — named for Art Laffer, the controversial economist who developed Ronald Reagan's tax cuts for the rich — but only in an administrative position.
