DWC Root Slime Cure aka How to Breed Beneficial Microbes

Does anyone know the reason that you need to add the tea to plain water in your res for the first 12 hours?
So the bennies can multiply and populate the fresh plain h2o in the new fresh reservoir. This lets them outcompete the bad bacteria. What I dont know however is are you supposed to use an airstone while doing this or no?

Merry Xmas everyone
I just want to give heisenberg a huge thank you I had bad accident titanium plates in neck been on man made pain Meds for years I decided to get off them and on to gods Meds I started growing in soil then decided to see what all the hub bub was about Dwc after a month I got the dreaded brown slime I washed roots with h202 and started running aquashield and hygrozyme with decent results then I found this thread I went out bought great white due to no Zho I bought EwC and ancient forest humus grandmas molasses and mixed a batch after first 24 hours I peeked and ughhh slime was worse but having faith in heisenberg I stayed the course now 48 hours later I have tons of new root growth with the most amazing white roots ever before running this I had terrible dead roots floating terrible ph flux due to dead roots now not only white roots but also stable ph I just want to say thank you so much heisenberg you saved my baby's anyone with slime please try this you won't be unhappy I promise
Thanks Heisenberg and have a Merry Xmas

So, nutrients hinder this process?
Theres all sorts of random things in nutrients, some of them could certainly hinder the reproduction of the bennies, I think the bacteria can multiply much easier in dechlorinated pure water.

They are aerobic, No?
true, that one was obvious i feel dumb now. So if I were to just put tea into some fresh water to pre-innoculate it for 12 hours, but not have any aeration, would this grow slime or something? What are the anaerobic baddies that spawn from this?

Got my new tea started last night.... I just rememberd when I made my first tea I didn't put a heating pad under it and the temps here are around 65F. Seeing as the cyanobacteria grows just fine in cold or hot temps, and the bennies only grow well in warm (70-75F) temps, I think I was actually growing cyanobacteria in my previous tea (due to it being too cold, so the cyanobacteria took control). When I added this tea to my recently cleaned/sterilized plant res, within a couple days my roots had slime on them again and the usual extreme pH climbing

My new tea bucket is warm this time heres to the future.

also another question:::: Has anyone ever had their worm casting holding device (old sock, pantyhose, etc) become slimy? My mistake tea that I brewed accidently at 65F had an extremely slimy earthworm casting sock. My new proper warm brewing temperature tea has been brewing for 12 hours and no slime thus far

When you say you peeked after 24 hours, do you mean you peaked at the tea brewing and it was slimed up? Or you finished your tea and put in res then 24 hours later it slimed again? Did your pH continue to rise like crazy while you were staying the course over 48 hours? I really really hope I can get some of these famous glorious white roots! Hope I brewed my tea correctly this time

You need to remember the fine print in the directions. " add bennies to the rez with no nutes for 12 hrs , then add nutes. " This is very important .

I added with nutes very low nutes . And zz after 24 hours in Rez it had slimed again I think this new slime was due to plant knowing it had bacteria in roots and fed them but now beautiful and I guess I did it wrong as I added nutes but let me tell you this works as far as I'm concerned heisenberg is a god as he saved my baby's I was ready to cry
Thanks heisenberg you are the Man

I peeked after brew had been added I also did this incorrect as I added with nutes however I have beautiful nutes probably because the aquashield and hygrozyme was working

The bennies will not multiply. They are meant to be in soil. That's why you replenish them every 3 days. The nutes and water will take their toll on them but they will do the job needed before they parish and then you replenish to keep a heard going. All along while they are eating their dead and keeping your roots healthy. This is not to be confused with organic growing or means you should use organics in DWC.

yes. use the air stone.

My first time I used the tea I did not add them to water only for the first 12 hours. 2 days later the rot was back. Discouraged my buddy brought up the point and I inoculated in plain water for 12 hours and Bam ! White root central.

I have not read the entire thread but I have read a lot of it. I am having dwc troubles. I am trying the tea right now as we speak. Tea has been brewing for 24 hours. I am going to add the tea to my dirty res before my next change. Then, on next change, I will follow the instructions by cleaning the roots, inoculating the res, etc. Very excited about this. Let me clarify, my plants are doing extremely well. I still see new root growth. I had the clear snot at first and h2o2 made a giant difference. I started top feeding beneficials(not brewed, soluble mycos/trich/bact) and I began to get a dark brown slimey gooey goop on the roots. It looks like rot but does not smell like decay. I will post some before and after pics when I actually use the tea. Should I be expecting my roots to return to white?

Some specs-

2 plants
H.H.T. DWC system, taken directly from his videos
total gallons of water is 25
using GH Flora duo, botanicare cal mag, KLN silica, GH rapid start
I take the RO water(10 PPM) to 225 ppm with cal mag
then take it up to 500 ppm TOTAL with flora duo
then add rapid start and silica
ends up at like 540ppm I think
After making a new res I typically dont even use any ph up/down. It lands on 6 and my plants love it.

I have them under 1, 1000watt HPS
res temps 70-72
room temps stay in the low 70's

Looking forward to results!

You will have bad results because you are using rapid start and silica. room temp should be 75-80.
Your roots will not return white but new ones will form, the dark roots wont harm anything they will keep the bennies fed well.

The 12 hours of tea without nutes is for a decent root mass that is first being introduced to bennies they need to attack the roots and slime before adding any nutrients because nutrients feed slime and pythium too quickly and bennies dont get a good enough start. generally more necessary for roots that are in bad shape.
